All John wanted to do was get away from his life in Kluane National Park for a weekend. Hike, camp and chill. Instead, the world comes to an end in a series of blue boxes. I am a big fan of scifi and fantasy books and audiobooks, also a huge fan of mmorpg gaming. I'm not sure if that makes me biased but I thoroughly enjoyed this and will now be doing a marathon binge of the rest on this series. man im loving this book but that whole thing with everyone being angry at him after he sleeps with that girl is dumb, lana says she isnt serious about the flirting, tells him he'd be a terrible boyfriend and no one contradicts her even dog piling onto it, giving literally every idea off that there is nothing between them except her flirting with him occasionally because she finds it funny what conclusion is he meant to draw from that besides never gonna happen

Ah... took a bit, but I remember trying to listen to this story a while ago- maybe through audible? It has some good points, but the story simply revolves around combat too much. There are only so many times that it is interesting to read about a guy shooting a monster in detail, but it happens repeatedly in this series. Also wasn't really a fan of MC's mental state and relationship problems. Pohdel's narration, in this case, made it a chore to listen to. (I should say that I normally like his narrations.)

Is this a novel version ripoff of all the manga/light novel/web novels that do the dungeon/system novels?

It's in the same genre (LitRPG) as those kind of novels. Though most of the manga/light novels are Isekaid to a different world. This one is based in Earth. There's a whole sub-genre of Western writers doing this since... 2015 or so. And the Russians started writing in 2012 or so like that. And going further back, portal stories like Joel Rosenberg's Guardian of the Flames did it (just without the stat screens).

You know there's a difference between "being racist" and "telling a story that includes racist characters", right? Though inconsistent, this one seems to be the latter. The series have so much potential but the writer is kinda stuck trying to be woke while ruining exactly the great parts; manly rage filled pathetic MC who is gay but attracted to women (which might explain the rage) chocolate hotdog cravings-no puns intended...emotional crying all the time and lots of fillers system this system that...otherwise not too bad and real narration not robot voice gives it 6-7/10 also Ads...lots of ads.

A real problem with these litrpgs is that they read more like a lets play than a book, with a lot 'and then this happened', like someone telling me about events rather than immersing me in them. I’m glad I didn’t pay for this… it starts off strong but in act 2-3 it’s bogged down with team nonsense with little to no character development…just unimportant quests, information and filler. I can write several paragraphs about the issues… I will keep it short. The character starts off like any nerd.. weak and directionless. He does have anger issues which trigger imaginative tendencies. This is what I thought they were going with to help him survive… it’s a unique skill set for the system to help him level up…it’s abandoned and for most of the time he is stumbling around with groups for 2 acts talking..the information is good about the system but it’s not that entertaining. I’m not sure if I want to proceed to act 4, last 2 has discouraged me
