As a born again Christian, who loves audio books, it is VERY refreshing to listen to books of this caliber. That, while being very realistic to the scenario, also aren’t too sexually/brutally charged. The lack of curse words,!and the upholding of modesty with this type of subject is indeed impressive. @@ChristineKerseyBooks I would be more concerned with non-government controlled labs. Labs in the CDC have levels. Level 1 would be flu virus, salmonella, something less of a problem. At Level 4, you would have basically a space suit, and shower protocols, and a buddy system. At this level, there are failsafes to ensure samples cannot mix. Even if they did, the unit would have likely locked down due to the loss of power before they could mix. Can’t say the same for the civilian labs. Just started this book, but it seems to excellent so far. One thing I noticed, there seems to be more weapons among this group of middle aged office workers than the average gang banger. For those who think that all the violence starting so quickly is unrealistic---think again. Our cities are filled with mentally unbalanced people and a whole lot of spoiled, immature people who would have no problem hurting others if they think they can get away with it. What I appreciated was that the story deals with an idea that most disaster stories don't: during a regular day, your family would be widely separated. Husband and wife at their offices, kids in different schools. Not a problem with cars, but on foot? It reminds us that before the advent of cars, there was a dammed good reason for work, home, school and groceries to all be next door to each other. Good story.

Not really . This is Utah , in 2023 20.1% of total population had a Concealed Firearm Permit . Plus the Utah laws are such an additional large percentage will legally have firearms routinely close at hand for " just in case " . So for a subset that ranges from late 20's to 50's , gainfully employed , successful enough to have disposable income to spend on several firearms without straining to put food on the table ( in non zombie , non EMP times ) . Plus after the "event" everyone had plenty of milling around , wondering what's happening time to retrieve their Car Guns before setting out on foot . So , that part is within an order of magnitude of reality .

From experience, I can tell you, 4:51:04 that you never want to run and older diesel engine with a fuel distributor completely out of fuel. You will have to recalibrate the firing sequence of the engine. 8 cylinders means 16 tubes, prep accordingly friend.

Good book. It's the most super sweet post-apocalyptic book ever written.

You are a fabulous writer! I want to really reiterate that, the writing, characters, & story line are top notch; probably in my top 3 favorite books/series. I love audiobooks, they keep me sane! However, it is MY opinion, you should have someone else narrate them. I listened to another of your books w/ a different narrator & it was incredible.

@@brendakorneder4228 as I said in my opinion & precisely why I wanted to make sure she knows how much I respect her as a writer. Not everyone can do everything. I would never try to write a book because I know it is not my talent.

I don't know why, I too prefer a male narrator. I am enjoying this story. It's lovely to be read to. Many thanks for all your hard work.

The guys sound like very feminine men even though they are quite tuff.

Seldom does one come across a well written and inspirational/positive audio novel and narrated so well by the author as well. Most narrators have to either edit their audio with an app (like audacity) or work with another narrator to differentiate between the male and female characters. Despite using your own natural voice, you where able to convey clearly who was who (Alex,Jason, Melissa, etc.) through simple voice inflections without disrupting the thought process of the listener. I wish I was as talented as you =) Thus, liked,subbed and ready to listen to more. Thank You!

Really love your books. Great research on the EMP first few weeks and how fast society falls apart. I like the fact the rape and carnage are mentioned but not too graphic. Can't wait to listen to the science fiction stories.

Christine, I really enjoyed the book. Being from Salt Lake (Logan now), and also a prepper, I found it very relate-able. I could visually imagine the areas the groups were traversing through. Looking forward to book 2

Now if only we found a way to strap EMPs to Zombies!!! But in all seriousness THIS is absolutely on point! I absolutely love the realistic ideas of "maybe it's a small power outage and will turn back on in a few hrs" meanwhile others are in pure panic mode! This is definitely a trumpet to prepare for the possibility of SHTF!!

What I find a bit unrealistic, a problem with almost every post apocalyptic story tho, is that every time almost instantly after _"the event"_ happens everyone goes Mad Max... I mean, it's true that man is only 3 warm meals and a hot shower away from its baser instincts but I doubt that within the first few days, maybe even a week, sh*t would hit the fan. Humans are way to complaicent for that, even criminals.

These E.M.P. stories always forget one thing. An EMP Strong enough to kill the power in buildings, cars, phones, and most other things. It doesn't just make them stop. It works is an electromagnetic wave goes out and friees all of those electronics that means it overloads them. That means the wires get hot and melt. That means the city would be on fire.
@notmyname3883 Жыл бұрын
NOT necessarily. IN certain instances, sure. But small electronics, no.
