Zubimendi’s understanding of positional play, and Spanish football in general, could be a good fit. But I still think we need to give credit to the opposition too. Not only are City without Rodri, but opposition teams have been really precise in exploiting those weaknesses. The Premier League has improved a lot since Pep arrived; there are better coaches, and Sporting, who faced them in the Champions League, have been incredible. City is the team to beat.

The problem is actually aging modified who lacked of ground coverage and ability to win duel. Both Kovacic - Gundogan already 30++, they just cant cope with the physicality of EPL. I think Pep need to trust Nunes more, he actually quite physical.

To replace Rodri, starting from names from Serie A that occasionally appear in the newspapers, I would avoid Ricci and Barella due to physicality issues and rather opt for Calhanoglu who I consider tactically more suitable (more feasible from Italy could be Rovella, but I know if may be ready). Other names that come to mind are Baleba from Brighton, otherwise Partey from Arsenal, Zakaria from Monaco and Jonny from Betis (but for the latter I share the same concerns about Rovella's level). A bet could be Verratti: if he doesn't drop too much overall, he could well work in that role; of course, he also has a small physique (even more than others), but he has greater defensive attention and good skills in attacking his opponent. But I'd consider also that a good option could be adopt a less aggressive style of play, at least waiting for Stones and the oders; maybe something more like De Zerbi's Brighton, with Haaland and the wingers who could make a good use of the spaces that a lower block could create.
