they def werent capable bc they didnt have enough quality for that. so they focused on disrupting the play. overall, i think they wanted not to allow Spain settle into comfy possession (after they saw how passive Germany played) so they tried to win the balls back and press Spanish and they succeeded in breaking up Spanish' rthythm. but also got carried away with physicality. they lacked players like Davidtz, Bergkamp, Seedorf

Their Euro 2012 team was the best incarnation of those three titles they won in a row. Those six creative midfielders (and no striker) playing with so much harmony and such precision is something I still cannot believe. Either this Spanish golden generation are the best team ever in International football or a very close second to Brazil in 1970.

I was just beginning to get into football when the 08 Euro happened, so I wasn't so much into the tactical side. I have Spanish ancestry, so Spain was always my team. By the time the 2010 World Cup came around, I was so excited for what I considered to already be among the best teams ever (admittedly biased). And I paid more attention to the tactics, but was still uneducated enough to just assume that they were a strong defensive side who loved killer passes. Now I have such a deeper appreciation for how my favorite national team of all time played their way to complete dominance. Thank you for this! iViva España!

Barça's playing system, also known as el juego de posicion or simply as tiki taka, had influenced the Spanish team. Some people say this style of play is very boring to see due to the passing rotations and ball possession however this system can give more attacking flexibility and tactical mobility like the total football. That's why I like this style of play. In my opinion, it's a bit like the triangle offense and the ball movement play in basketball tactics. 🏀⚽️

I guess Spain were dominant during 2008-2010, Their CB pairing ( Pique and Puyol) were extremely comfortable on the ball and solid defensively, The midfield trio of Xavi and Iniesta we're mainly the backbone of the Spanish team, not only at International level, but also at Barcelona. But from 2010 onwards Tiki Taka was noticeably dying, as Spain won every match in the knockout stages 1-0 in the 2010 world cup, It was pretty to watch, but not as effective. Also Spain brought out some amazing talent back in the days, eg David Villa, David Silva, Busquets, Jordi Alba and so on

After France won Euro 2000 I thought they'd easily dominate 2002 world cup. They still had their key players in their prime with some veteran but still at top level, combined with young but battle proven Henry&Trezeguet. They could've been the first "Spain", and even more impressive by winning World cup, Euro, World cup. But reality is bitter, finished at bottom of group without scoring any goal.

The success of this Barcelona style applied to Spain 2008-2012 became the core idea of my national team's Filanesia. The positional elements and the passing style influenced Filanesia. The realization of the idea was during the 2018 Asian Games U-23 Indonesia National Team Squad under Luis Milla. I have to say that Sergio Busquets showed what Michael Carrick was all about, only in Spanish and more comprehensive. I never realized that Pressing was the most vital element for this Spain side until Jurgen Klopp Borussia Dortmund 2012-13 also Jonathan Wilson quoted that his Gegenpressing was a bit like the '80s Liverpool. David Villa was the best striker in the world with this Spain side, Torres still showed what he can do despite his terrible club seasons.

You had something like more than 50, 60 minutes of just Brazil playing and not leaving Belgium play. They were a bit unlucky, as they shooted a lot of dangerous balls against Courtouis. But that game was also Courtouis best performance in the Season. Even so, I still think that game could have been 2-2 and problaby would be won by Brazil in the extra-time if it actually happened.

2012 gotta be the strongest Spsish team ever assembled from my point of view. Nontheless , the 2013 side was quite decent too albeit they lose the final to Brazil. From 2014 onwards , it went downhill. To date , the Spanish side are so much inferior comparing them to their predecessor ( 2008-2012 side ) and look far more average on paper also.

They basically All played for the Same 2 Clubs.. so thier Chemistry is obviously gonna be much higher compared to the rest of the other national teams.

@@shwetamathur8626 Well he was eligible for Spain and France as well as Gabon, but as his dad was a Gabon international, Auba always said he wanted to represent them. I'm sure that Spain would have happily taken him had he waited around for them. Also, he always said that he wanted to play in Spain one day, so after he leaves Arsenal he'll probably go there (not relevant to this, just a fun fact).

@@shivzvp0012 Only Torres, Casillas and Alonso were mainstays. Also, Fabregas was an FCB player and a La Masia graduate. Compare the rest of your list of benchwarmers and nobodys to staples like, Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Puyol, Pique, Alba, Villa, Fabregas (yes), Pedro who more or less dictated the Spanish style of football on Barcelona terms.

@@RexGalilae No, Torres, Casillas, Ramos, Alonso and Villa were the mainstays. Senna and Silva were pivotal in 2008 and 2012. Alba only really started for Spain in 2012. Before the full backs were capdevila and marchena. In nearly every game between 2008-10, there were at least 5-6 non-Barcelona players.

@@shivzvp0012 " In nearly every game between 2008-10, there were at least 5-6 non-Barcelona players." I love how you say this while completely failing to realize that it only means that Barca always contributed a majority of the players, cementing my point :') Forget the player count, we didn't even discuss how Barca single-handedly dictated the entire Spanish footballing philosophy during this period .
@shivzvp0012
@shivzvp0012 3 жыл бұрын
@@RexGalilae Barca did not single-handedly dictate Spain’s playing philosophy. It was actually Luis Aragones, who was the Spain manager before Pep was the Barca manager. If anything, Barca copied from Spain. But if anyone copied from anyone, it’d be Cruyff.

Interesting, between 2008 and 2012 Spain was one of the worst performing countries in economic terms, with 1/4 of the population unemployed and 50% of youth unemployment. Something Inimaginable in other western countries. But in football they were doing good. At least something right.
