I have a question: why do all the cars they repo look so OLD and crummy? 😂🤣💀 Puhleaze! I wouldn't spend 5,000 quid on a used BMW that looks like three dump trucks smashed into it! And the owner hadn't paid half of what it was worth! LOL... I've watched over 20 episodes of the BBC version of the repo show and only once or twice do they seize a nice car that's not 10 years old or looks like it came from a scrapyard!

I sold a house in FL, USA, with a second mortgage. After the first payment, the second check bounced, and all payments stopped. I was in WY, USA, and they thought I was too far to collect, but a friend in FL called a solicitor and he sued the buyer on our behalf. Debt collected.

It's interesting to note that the debt holder has to go through numerous court appearances (and pay for each step including hiring the bailiffs) to come to this point. If you owe, make payment arrangements in writing and then make the payments.

The agents have been pushed to their limits. If the debt is not paid in full, they may have to seize assets. But the debtor is trying to say the company was sold and he's a lookalike of the man they're looking for.

@@niemi5858 I LOVE how the Limeys always always moan that US shows are so overdramatic and exaggerated. The show "Can't pay, we'll take it away!" is EXACTLY like that. Very dramatized with almost every single repo having the words "The agents are pushed to their limits" or "They must use their strength and xxx years of experience to resolve the situation." The narrator always talks like they're about to perform brain surgery! The British repo show was even caught making up stuff. It sometimes happens with two guys named Paul and Steve (both wear glasses and Steve has a buzz haircut). A documentary about this show caught Paul and Steve whispering to their TV crew to create a big fuss for extra drama!

Here in the States, apparently squatters are the big problem. Put your house on the market or go on vacation and you're liable to find a whole family living there now. Our goofy government gives the squatters more rights than the homeowner. Some states have started removing squatters and charging them with trespassing. How about getting serious and charge them with breaking & entering, burglary?

What is truly amazing about the "High Court" and the officers is. The process of seizing assets on the spot is not done anywhere else in the world. If it was done elsewhere, the process and the outcomes would result in very different scenarios. The High Officers are well trained in NOT Escalating the situation, resulting in peaceful endings.

It is practiced elsewhere, the US for instance has a similar process, it can be local or federal court, and most commonly involves sheriff's deputies, but going in with armed law enforcement personnel and seizing items for auction to pay an outstanding judgment does happen here in the US, it's not a separate department but it is roughly similar, and the on site aspects can be similar.

Yea did you see the tires on the car. That could have been a gift or bought when time were better. But what these people really need is some education and having some classes on how to budget. For example in the USA she could get that $100.00 a month buy using a food banks for some of her food instead of buying all her food. Thinks like bottle water and eating out is a huge waist of money. Well a lot of people have never been taught about finances. Basically once people find themselves in this shape it should be required to take some classes. For example the women who owes a 100 pounds a week. Well she cannot even afford to change the bald tires on her car and taking the car means she cannot get to work to earn money, just being worse off. However getting 2 weeks of food each month from a food bank would save her the money so she could pay that debit off. But for some people they see it wrong to get free food that way due to there pride and yet they are still cheating someone else. It does not make sense yet a lot of people think this way. They do not want to ask for help and yet expect people who do not have the means or ability to help and basically dump on them because they think the person is so much better off when they are just getting by also.

This absolutely happens in the US. It's called a Writ of Execution. If you sue and win a judgment, you can go back to the court for the writ, then the Sheriff's office goes out and seizes property to satisfy the judgment.

Unless it's repossession of a car you aren't paying on or eviction for property you're not paying for rarely will you hear of property seized except in criminal cases in United States. Then sheriff's in United States are law enforcement unlike in the UK.

That's because it's very expensive to have someone's property seized for debt in most States. Cheaper just to walk away.
