A year and a half after the release of Def Jam: Vendetta, EA and AKI released Def Jam: Fight For New York, the unexpected sequel to one of the strangest games in history. Did this game surpass Vendetta, or was this formula a one hit wonder?

EA really fucked up. They had something special with their side branch EA Big pumping out timeless classics like the Def Jams and the Street Series. Def Jam: Fight for NY and Fifa Street 1 & 2 were my childhood. I replayed both myself recently on my PS2 emulator just to confirm that they're still that good and yeah, they are. True nostalgic timebombs EA wasted with their greed. Better than most modern movie "games" today, that's for damn sure

What this game needed was a warriors like war match, a 5 on 5 fight.

@@HazyGraythe best thing about this game is that there's many combinations of style that you can make, you'll be repeating the game story many times.

the PSP version Fight for NY. The takeover isn't actually a port it's a prequel to Vendetta and FfNY. Most people think it's a port because it feels like the PS2 game though it removed some match types like 2 on 2 and free for all and inferno but they added something much cooler like you can actually sit on top of your opponent and beat the shit out of him until he gets knocked out, which by the way it's another way to KO an opponent

Biggest thing about the takeover is being able to have 2 or 3 of the same fighting style

I recently looked up value of this game.. wow. Glad I never let GameStop hustle me by selling back to them for $2 lol. They are selling for $150-300 for used copy currently lol

So Fight for NY is a wrestling fighting game and one of the fighting styles in this game is wrestling....huh ?
@HazyGray
@HazyGray 10 ай бұрын
It's more accurate to refer to Wrestlers in this game as Grapplers. Some characters are purely strike based, such as Martial Artists and Street Fighters. Some characters are hybrids, and rely on strikes and grapples, such as Kickboxers & Submission Experts. Wrestlers are pure grapplers, and hardly rely on strikes.

Hey, bro, I love your Def Jam reviews. There's a bunch of created rappers in WWE 2K22 in a Def Jam Project of sorts. You may want to check them out. Edit: It's called Def Jam: World War. They even have videos here on KZbin, also.

0:51 "Oversatured market", what do you mean ?
@HazyGray
@HazyGray 10 ай бұрын
Wrestling games were MAD POPULAR in the early 2000's. With games like Here Comes The Pain & Fire Pro Wrestling Returns, everybody wanted a piece of the wrestling game pie. As a result, LOTS of wrestling games came out around this time, and it became hard for most of them to stand out. Thus, the market became oversaturated with hundreds of eerily similar wrestling games, which is why it was important for FFNY to stand out, or else it would get lost in the shuffle.

@@HazyGray you mean none of the wrestling games before Def Jam Fight for NY were distinguishable from each other (just making sure I understood)
