Which is why as a native New Yorker I never mention it. Even the 2009 version is better by this fact alone to say nothing of the 1974 classic.

To a NY'er it is very noticeable, Too bright and too clean. And MTA train seats are not cushioned.

I put this on expecting Denzel Washington & John Travolta (lol) - this was a cracking version - better than the one I anticipated. Thank you for posting it. I understand there's a version with Walter Matthau & Robert Shaw - I gotta see that one!

Thank you for uploading this. ABC showed this only once back in February 1998. I was studying for an exam and set my VCR (yes VCR not DVR lol) to record it. Unfortunately, for some reason or the other, it cut just when the hijackers set the train in motion after they were escaping (1:15:00). I never got to see the rest of the movie after that - up till now - almost 26 years later.

Now you get to experience it. Also I'm assuming the disc or cassette or something you used to record ran out of storage.

This remake, although not nearly as good as the original, is much more faithful to the novel in terms of rigging the train for the getaway. In the novel, the front cab window had to be broken out in order to fit the various lengths of pipe together. The MTA didn't like the idea of busting out a window on a revenue-active car, so they put the kebosh on that. The cars seen here were about to be scrapped, so the TTC didn't care what happened to them.

Better known as The Taking of Bloor-Danforth 1-2-3. Much of the dialog closely matches that of the original. Hector Elizondo was much more convincing as Mr. Gray. I liked Walter Matthau's line, "Somebody down there knows how to drive a train. You don't pick that up watching Sesame Street."

This was very good! If you need gratuitous violence and foul language then this may not be your cup of tea. The acting is good, the New York vibe is good and the action is on going. Before seeing this version, I have only seen the Walter Matthau/ Robert Shaw version on television in the 80’s. In my opinion, this version is comparable.

So, 2 additional remakes. Is there any measurable improvements on the original? Depends on who you ask. Boomers say, hell no! It does'n't really matter what the "whoevers" think. Because unless they can appreciate no BS, hit you right between the eyes old school cinematography... without the sugar coating fluff; they just won't want it.
@malcolmclements92543 ай бұрын
In the original Mr Blue was English that's why at the end he asked if they still execute in the States. As this Mr Blue was American the line didn't work. All in all one of the better remakes.
@janefelix38212 ай бұрын
The problem was New York had a death penalty when this version was made, so it was not true what Lt. Garber said. it's just that they copied the dialogue from the original and at that time New York, as well as all other states did not have the death penalty as the Supreme Court struck it down in 1972.
