You deserve a medal, Tony, for perseverance! I am from Edinburgh and recall going to school in winter through the snow - deeper than in your video. At home, the ice would form on the inside of our bedroom windows. At school we would make ‘slides’ - long runs of black ice, with the aim of sliding as far as possible before falling over. The teachers used to spread salt to melt the ice - no sense of adventure! Perhaps another video on the life and times of R L Stevenson, Walter Scott, Daniel Defoe, Robbie Burns, and other writers/poets of fame?

Love this story and that you kept going in the snow long after it looks like everyone else on the street has given up . I would have been sitting in the car telling the story much sooner.

Hi Tony, i found your chanel some weeks ago and love your videos. When i started to watch this one i had to laugh so hard and it brought back a lot of memories, because i was there that week (i am german) during the ' beast from the east' (i think that's what they called this snowstorm in the news). I was constantly checking the people in the background, half expecting to see me there, because i was walking up and down the royal mile that day several times (shops and museums where closed so i just walked a lot..)

It is April 2019, and I just saw a story on an American TV show called, Mysteries at the Museum. They did a short story on Deacon Brodie. So, at the writer's Museum in Edinboro, there's a wardrobe that was built by Deacon Brodie. It was donated by the writer, Stevenson. They said that Deacon Brodie was his inspiration for writing Jekyll and Hyde. I can't remember if you told us this information before. So, if you haven't, here's a historical freebie for you.

When you attended elementary school, was there a lot of Edinburgh history taught? Thanks yet again for a great video.
@ClanBroonford6 жыл бұрын
No, normally people don't get much Edinburgh history, a little basic Scottish history. I did have one random teacher who did enjoy telling us about Edinburgh History. But mostly its my love for the city's unique history that we love. P.S Here's a fun fact for you, we call 'Elementary school', 'Primary School' here :)

I'm a film student & for my final assessment we are to make a short 5 minute documentary on anything within Edinburgh, but it has to be centered around the theme of conflict. I really what to do mine on Deacon Brodie but I'm having trouble finding conflict within the story. Any suggestions?
@ClanBroonford5 жыл бұрын
The main conflict is with him and his other three “gang” members. Brown, smith and Ainsle. Remember 2 of them turned evidence against Brodie for there freedom. Brodie was an avid gambler, drinker and frequented brothels all the time. This is why he had to keep going for bigger scores and eventually lead to their capture. You can look at the animosity in the group brought in by Brodie’s behaviour.

You brave soul (that's the kind of Edinburgh weather that drives people to their fireside!). Deacon Brodie's double life is as intriguing now, as it was in the 18th century, and it's grand you're keeping him alive with this video. Well done! I invite you to read the novel, 'Deacon Brodie: A Double Life' See bit.ly/1kbrlId
