Enraged, the king stole the child away, and sent him hurtling down the river. But the infant’s luck proved greater than the king’s plan. This sounds like a simplified version of a czech fairytale - Tři zlaté vlasy děda Vševěda (grandpa All-Know's three golden hair). It's basically the same with a lot of detail, a fairy godmother who said he'll marry the princess and also changed the letter... Also more info about how he grew up and a name Plaváček - plavat means to swim and the rest is just a suffix signifying it's a mans name. Some old villagers found him and called him that since they found him swimming in the water in a cradle.
