Bro I’ve been feeling the same fucking way! I adore this goddam song and the G Em C D jam just doesn’t do it justice. I’ve had such a hard time trying to read tabs for it, so I truly thank you for this vid! You made it very simply and easy to digest, despite how chaotic this song is I think I’m getting the hang of it! Thanks boss man!

Epic the chords online are so wrong you killed it man! I know I'm 14 yrs late but I've been listening to TMOE since way back then and have always been too intimidated to cover any of his songs. This will be my 1st thank you!

I tried learning by the standard tuning tabs, but none of them sounded as good as this. Thank you, sir!

5:22 Haha its definitely about "killing" and burying "them" in a garden. But as a recovering alcoholic the lyrics really resonate with me. I hear it as desperation/suppressing lies, the spy in the chimney- all the evidence I've burned, a leak inside my phone etc. Keeping the truth from coming out/people from telling my secrets. So I can stay the good man you think I am. I've destroyed 2 relationships with amazing women, real soul mates, with my drinking. So my interpretation def comes from my own experience, not sure if that's what he was going for but I love this song

man this song is so fun to play! The chorus is just pure magic!
@letitbe9021010 жыл бұрын
this song is actually the exact way to play it, except for the part where you say in your eyes babe multiple times.. the proper part for that is using the power chord from the verse with transition picking. instead of hammering the one chord he used.. other than that perfect i watched the live on kexp version and it was exact

@JamesWoods1251 The number is the fret you play on each string, starting from the lowest string going up to the highest strings. And 'x' means you don't play the string. So 5,x,4,5 is played: 6th string fret 5, 5th string mute the string, 4th string fret 4 and 3rd string fret 5

So you took the time to learn the song, shoot the video, throw in a few jokes for free and upload it. Then everybody complains in the comments about go slower/faster "you missed a bit" or "that's not the version I want" etc. jeez people, put some effort in yourselves. Kids today! Well done Doron, it's a great vid, thank you for sharing.

Loved the video, for the right way, the quirky jokes, and for singing voice. Really, your voice, you get it. At the tiny desk concert, he admits that singing is his opportunity to scream, something he can't usually do in his everyday life. My suggestion is that you sing the whole song first and then move on to the "right way."

Thanks Doron. Just a quick comment: I think the general consensus is the song isn't about him killing anyone. It's about the lies he's told and his fear of being found out. In other words, it's metaphor, not murder :-)

What's the strumming pattern at 2:27? Is it the same as the rest?
@aamericanos14 жыл бұрын
@JamesWoods1251 The first number refers to the lowest string and when he says 'x' it means you don't play the string. So 5,x,4,5 starting on the 6th string is played: d 0 a 0 e 5 D 4 A x D 5
@JUN34U14 жыл бұрын

One more - does he say "poppy in your lea", instead of "puppy in your leash", which is everywhere I look online, but never made any sense to me? I have never heard him pronounce "leash", thought maybe it was "lead", which is a dog term as well, but then on this recording the youtube of the cong posted by alexis fortier gauthier, I think he says "poppy".

The song is n't all that psycho if you look past the surface of the words- the song is about him trying to hills faults- not people - he is afraid that his love will look at as if he was n't the greatest man in her life- so he tries to get rid of his faults metaphorically in the song by killing them and gives them a name such as the runner and the leak and the spie.
