@Waste, "feet" please include metric unit measurements in your video.

There’s still a slightly shorter mast in North Dakota. Definitely not quite as tall as the Polish one was.
@brys5553 ай бұрын
The mast itself was located about 700 meters south-west from these ruins visible on drone shots.

never heard of? it was in the guinness book of world records. people knew about it widely back in the 80's.

I remember reading about in Guinness World Records too, but I wasn't that well known. Even though it wasn't as tall, the CN Tower was a lot more famous since it was the tallest free-standing structure at the time and a popular tourist attraction.

Having worked in transmission mast construction for multiple years one remark is beyond me: uncoupling the main guy wire before attaching, securing and tensioning the temp guys? That would be a VERY stupid thing to do.
@Bobrogers993 ай бұрын
No doubt the maintenance crew was poorly trained, and the replacement wasn't well planned. Years of neglect made the tower vulnerable to any lapse in judgment. Yes, the crew's actions were stupid.
@mittfh3 ай бұрын
Bobrogers99Not just lapses in judgement, but given the poor maintenance, corrosion of the guy wires could have led to an unattended collapse within a few years (c.f. Arecebo Observatory), or alternately corrosion of the mast itself given budgetry pressures stalled its repainting.

I think this thing is way more famous then you think it is, I member learning about it in school when we talked about the Cold War

To kids, this must be ancient history. To me, this was once the highest structure built and "everyone" knew of it.

That's what was feat of communism. They build, produce a lot, but then it turned out that you have to maintain things too.
