The "Brynden skinchanging into Maekar to land the killing blow on Baelor" angle blew my mind. Even if it lessens the tragic elements a bit, I love how it shows who Brynden really is, the lengths he would go to, and how it would affect the things to come.

After reading GOT series, Fire & Blood, and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms I firmly believe that the show told us about Bran. He clearly says he is no longer Brandon Stark, he was the Three-Eyed Raven. He’s clear about that when answering Jon as well as others. I firmly believe him when he says this and have come to realize he truly is not longer Bran, but Blooraven who used his stronger powers to warg into Bran and orchestrating the entirety of the events in Westeros. He did this to take the throne after the Blackfyre line lost their rebellion. He saw this as a way to effect history in a way he could become king by making everyone believe he was Bran Stark. The truth was right there all along.

You mentioned that Bloodraven might have secretly been killing his family members so that Aegon V could become king and his line would prevail. It seems like during every generation of House Targaryen, some event happened that prevented the House from growing too large. After Maegor usurped the throne, he killed his two older nephews, leaving his remaining nephew Jaehaerys to marry his sister Alysanne. Most of their children died of various causes, complicating the succession and leading to the eventual Dance of the Dragons. Then, of course, there were the Blackfyre Rebellions. It seems like forces were constantly at work behind the scenes, pruning House Targaryen to secure a specific bloodline (like you mentioned).

I’ve wondered whether it was Bloodraven that advised Egg about the attempting to hatch the dragon eggs at Summerhall, or sent a vision?
@jamiecorser81084 ай бұрын
It can seem like it was some orchestrated plan or it was a usual thing that happened in history. Alot of dynasty's where their own worse enemies and infighting caused their downfall more than their enemies ever could. You cite the example of Maegor but many real life kings would kill a direct challenge who at any point could become the focal points for lords to stage a rebellion. Famously you have the princes in the tower who disappeared in English history as their uncle supposedly murdered them to secure his place on the throne.

The only reason hodor works is because I think bran will try to slip into hodor's skin from the weirwood tree similar to the show but different in certain GRRM ways. Bloodraven has gotta be the most metal character in the most metal book series ever
@nicholasmatthew96874 ай бұрын
I love the series - but Martin is a humble post-modern writer and though his mastery over dark themes is notable today, it’s honestly kid stuff compared to classical or ancient works. Martin is a master at writing a story that the majority of people can understand and this sets him aside. But If you want some really metal shit, go give 19th century Russian literature a whirl and then work your way back through history! Again I love his works and obviously I’m here listening to a lore video for the world he created but it’s honestly just all an adaption of the characters, themes and plots of Shakespeare but in a modern format. One of the things that really sets Martin aside in the fantasy space is the way he uniquely blends high and low fantasy. A world with familiar geography and social structure so well that it could compete with historical fiction, but still integrating fantasy and magic in a limited but undeniably present pillar of the story. Shakespeare pretty much invented this centuries before had scholastic understanding for these things. Now Martin doesn’t speak on this but there are so many parallels on paper that I’d bet a considerable sum on the fact that his work is partially a love letter to Shakespeare.

In "A Song of Ice and Fire," the most powerful and significant character is actually Brynden Rivers, a legitimized bastard by Aegon the Unworthy. The reason Aegon the Conqueror united the Seven Kingdoms was to stand against the Night King, and the prophecy of Azor Ahai is believed to descend from Aegon's bloodline. Despite the victory of the Greens in the civil war, the second son of Rhaenyra and Daemon, Viserys II, would have a bastard grandson named Brynden Rivers. With Valyrian magic and First Men blood from House Blackwood, this lineage accelerates the potential Azor Ahai prophecy. The power of skinchanging or the Three-Eyed Raven is more formidable than House Targaryen's dragons, allowing them to continue ruling through the Hand of the King and Master of Whisperers, Lord Bloodraven. Despite being legitimized as a Targaryen prince, Brynden remains loyal to his half-brother, King Daeron II, after the Blackfyre Rebellion. Brynden Rivers has the ability to manipulate the future through a eugenic program, ultimately leading Aegon V (Egg) to become king and marry into House Blackwood, thus combining pure Valyrian magic and First Men blood through incestuous marriages. From Jaehaerys II to Aerys II, the Targaryen incestuous line led to Rhaegar Targaryen, whose birth is linked to the Summerhall tragedy during Aegon V's attempt to hatch dragons, which ultimately failed. Targaryen madness is rooted in the Blackwood DNA, contributing to moral decay and insanity. Despite their cruelty, the Targaryens aimed for a greater and wiser purpose, as Brynden Rivers famously said, "The end justifies the means." Finally, the Prince That Was Promised is believed to be Jon Snow or Aegon VI Targaryen..
