The ASOIAF books are far more complex than the HBO fan-fic, and I know GRRM is hard at work on completing them up in his New Mexican fortress (I am delusional).

Even when you get really salty and decide to read another fantasy book series, you unfortunately realize that there is no book series out there on par with ASOIAF......

@@timangelis8999 after spending hours researching and asking other readers what series they recommend, I can confirm it's really hard finding something else. I really liked The First Law books and Name of the Wind but the large majority of other fantasy works simply are not on the level or anywhere near the level of ASOIAF. So there ARE some great options out there and if you approach with an open mind, they are thourougly enjoyable and worth reading. It's really hard to not compare everything to ASOIAF but it's worth it for your own good

I really think the valonqar is Tyrion, I think it's the last step to make it truly a self-fulfilling prophecy. She assumed it was Tyrion so she makes him the valonqar, she chooses him, she hurt him and those whom he loved, slighted him and diminished him everytime she got an opportunity. And I think it's nice that once her paranoia is right.

i think this video really highlights how ADWD/AFFC ended right before the climax of everyone's stories. all the characters end weeks or even days removed from the endpoint of their book arcs. Jaime and Brienne going to lady stoneheart. Cersei right before her trial. Aegon about to take storms end. and all the sand snakes on their way to finally actively enter the conflict. This is true in the north, too, with all character converging on the battle of ice that is then.. resolved offscreen? if you believe anything that letter says, that is. the only ones that DO end at their logical points are the Meereen and Castle Black plots, which are also the ones with the most chapters dedicated to them. The structure of TWOW is going to be very weird. the first 25% of the book is gonna be the climax (or should i say climaxes) from the previous narrative, and then its gonna have to.. start all over in the middle of the book? and build up to its own climaxes at the end?George has written himself into a big hole here, not only narratively but structurally, and i think this is a big part of why hes having so much trouble with the next book.

That and the fact Dany has completely escaped his gardening techniques. Her prophecys alone (you have to go east to go west, the Asshai stuff) could probably keep her busy for more than the next 2 books. Not to mention the Mereen plot still has to unravel with at least 5 big characters converging. The scrapped 5 year time skip probably helped to make the westeros plot more fluent, but might have really hurt the Essos plot.

Oh, and I liked your prediction of Sweet Robin. I have seen a lot of ambivilance if not hostility towards him. At the very least, most fans seem convinced he will die from poison or his "ill health," accelerated by whatever means. I don't recall hearing anyone suggest he will live but your reasoning is definitely valid here. Grrm does allow an 'underdog' character to live on occasion and I can't say I would prefer Robin be spared to any of the other side characters currently in mortal peril, but I don't wish him dead. Yeah he is a brat but look at the psychological and pharmacological attacks he has suffered, and as a child lacking any real parental love or guidance at that. I appeeciate that

Every time I think about what's happening in Westeros and Essos and where this story could be heading, I understand TWOW's delay. It must be difficult to juggle all the POVs, move the story along, and pay off all the previous setup and foreshadowing. Sometimes I think that two books are not enough to complete the story. In my opinion, Lady Stoneheart will feel a bit pointless if she doesn't get to meet one of her children, Jon or at the very least Edmure before dying again, so I am more inclined to Jaime rolling a 20 in persuasion or deception and convincing her to let him do something else for both of them surviving the encounter. Or Thoros might just sacrifice himself for Jaime, Brianne, Podrick and Ser Hyle Hunt's escape. Also, I believe on Obara's betrayal, but Areo is the only POV on Dorne, but George only kills POV characters that aren't prologue or epilogue when another POV is watching (Sansa and Cersei watched Ned's death, Areo killed and Arianne watched Arys' death, Barristan watched Quentyn's death) or when the POV will get ressurrected (Cat and Jon Snow). Areo Hotah only dies in the confrontation if GRRM adds Obara, Ser Balon or Darkstar as POVs, if some other POV gets all the way to Last Hermitage or if Areo gets ressurrected.

Shadrick only says he fought with Stannis and comes from KL... and its believable, yet he is a hedge knight, of the kind that sleeps in the bushes and forests coughbrotherhoodcough. And when you really look at his actions and words in the books, all he does is talks about Sansa and meets Alayne. Nothing else. No crazy kidnapping schemes at some tourney in front of everyone needed. Just the information itself is worth a lot. A lot of different things to different people. He isnt the type for outright kidnapping in a middle of a tourney anyway. He is the sneaky clever type with a gleam in his eye. And not the only person in the area who is looking for Sansa. There are two others very close, both sworn three times to find Catelyn children, one carrying a very specific sword. Dont be ridiculous Brinne isnt killing Catelyn or Jaime, they have their vow to fulfill, find Sansa and thats exactly what they will do. Catelyn has Riverrun to take over with the help of one Fish and wipe out all the Freys in the area, maybe even go after the Twins. Brotherhood sent people to the Neck to spy on everyone passing through to North and from it. They are actively searching for Catelyns daughters. They spread through whole Riverlands and neighboring areas. You all turned into jaded nihilist with those silly doom and gloom predictions. Even better, as you showed in the clip, Brienne tells Jaime its about the Hound... and we know the big Monk is also near by on that isle. And Miranda Royce has put two and two together. The whole kingdom knows Sansa disappeared from KL and is searched for. Officially. In addition, its practically impossible that Sansa and Littlefinger will go North since situation there is open warfare between several forces and the Long night is supposed to happen. Would Littlefinger think taking the Riverlands and especially Riverrun is an attractive move? I would think so. Freys getting overthrown, murdered, Riverrun falling to "bandits" would give him a perfect pretext and a good excuse to use the Vale army, not going North into all out war or siding with Jon or Stannis or even worse Boltons. He wants to take over not align himself with rebels and enemy forces. It would be even his duty as Lord Paramount of the East and the Riverlands to "restore order". Noble even. Of course Jaime will not lie about anything to Stoneheart-Catelyn Stark,... he can only reveal it is not the real Arya in the North so they can focus the search elsewhere and keep more people in the area. Him and Brienne saving a fake Arya would not fulfill their oath, it would be a complete dishonest travesty for both characters. Completely against all they went through. It would be a horrendous betrayal of all their Oaths and personalities. Instead who better to talk to Catelyn-Stoneheart give her valuable information, convince her he can fulfill that oath, than Jaime himself. Imagine that reunion. I just fucking hope Martin wont have that meeting also happen behind the scenes. All that needs to happen is for the word about Sansa in the Vale to reach them, one way or another. If i recall correctly Shadrich is getting ready to move with some other forces of the Vale anyway. Or Litrlefinger comes to them, walks into Stoneheart embrace in the Riverlands. No, no, its the confluence of all these characters directly involved with finding any of the kids still possibly alive, especially Sansa, and the big Monk looking for a meaningful existence, right... so if the story goes on by some logical process all those threads and lines should converge. I think Arianne's chances of marrying Faegon are quite slim. Jon Con said to the halfmaester Aegon should be free for Deanerys, when she comes to westeros. Jon Con himself excludes him marrying someone on account of the greyscale. Going with Martin's theme of parallels, I'd guess Arianne will have comparable luck to her brother's in her venture..

Varys is a sneaky guy. He has no loyalty and loves chaos. He is more conniving than even Littlefinger. If what he says about Aegon is true, it certainly is interesting. That means Aegon has the right to the throne over literally anyone, even Jon, if he is technically Rhaegar's son. Also, what if Aegon is actually Rhaegar and Lyanna's son? Jon could still be Ned and Ashara's bastard child. We're never really sure. Because Ned does stay with the Dayne's for some time. Also, Tywin in his mad rush to secure House Lannisters legacy and dynasty, with his actions due to the Red Wedding, has doomed it completely, imo.

I don't think Arianne will offer fAegon herself as a marriage pact, I think she'll offer Myrcella. The only way that fAegon can win the thrown is if Tommen is dead. That would leave Myrcella as queen. fAegon marrying Arianne would win him Dorne, but marrying Myrcella would get him the whole kingdom. What better way to mend the wound of the war than by the Targ heir marrying the Baratheon heir. It would also fit Arianne's story more. She's all about getting Dorne for herself, and she didn't seem to think much of the idea of the marriage pact where she would've married Viserys and become queen. The Dornish still have Mycella, and there's even a theory that it's a fake Mycella being sent to King's Landing, so it's not that hard for them to offer her.
