joseph gabello he wasn’t wrong... I think that’s important to understand; he believed this child, he had no reason not to, so the idea of wrong is different when what you did you believed was right... that child lied, she comes across like a liar in my opinion but they didn’t see that...she was just off grounding and was late coming home again so instead of face trouble she made herself a victim and in my opinion only a very manipulative sick child could go to that length to get out of trouble, she was obviously very fearful of her stepfather and her mother wasn’t her advocate in life so she felt she had no choice? I don’t know what she thought, I think back to being a teen coming home after curfew.. the worse I ever lied was maybe “my friend had car trouble” but I also wasn’t a child who feared for my safety... now I agree with you that it is concerning when all these years later hes saying “something happened” that does show that he can’t own the truth I can’t say what he thinks now but I think at the time he believed that child because who would think a child would go to that extent to get out of trouble?!

I watched the live interview where it was disclosed as a false story and I remember Rev. Sharpton saying that it did not matter that it did not happen because it could have happened. I was very disappointed and thought that he had probably hurt the advancement of his people more than he knew. When lies can be accepted as truth, then no story has any reason to exist. And the people who tell them have no reason to be believed.

karend99143 this is about the history of jurisprudence in America. This isn’t about one individual case. Did you know it was illegal for a black person to even testify against a white person? Yes in the 80s a Boston man falsely accused a black man of killing his pregnant white wife. It’s okay to be mad at Tawana Brawley but are you angry about the majority of miscarriages of justice against black people in general? That’s the question. Btw my dad was alive during Jim Crow so I’m actually the first generation of black people in America that have my full citizenship civil right. In the context of history slavery and Jim Crow for that matter was NOT that long ago. Why can’t black people talk about their history as it pertains to American history. When the confederate flag is constantly flown it’s okay but black people cant talk about slavery. BTW Mississippi is a red state run by republicans yet it’s the poorest state in the union. Gtfoh.

I served on the jury that found that an assistant DA in Dutchess county was defamed by Mason, Maddox and Sharpton. We actually based charges on comments they made well after the NY Times exposed this is "most likely" a hoax. We gave the benefit of doubt that their motives were pure up to the point where it became clear that the Assistant DA could not have been involved. We also hit the two lawyers harder because they ought to have known better while Sharpton was just a spokesperson. We caught flack from both sides-The NY Post called us "pinheads" which was a little hurtful because it was 6 people trying to "cut the baby in half" and no one was 100% pleased with the numbers we came up with.
6 ай бұрын
Mount, you shouldn't have cut the baby in half....you needed to send a message to The Three Stooges (Sharpton, Mason, and Maddox) that smearing and lying doesn't pay. You needed to award Pagones 50x the amounts at least -- and I say that as someone who usually looks with disdain on "Lottery Lawsuit" awards. You realize that the locals and the Dutchess County Sheriff's Dept. exposed this as a hoax within 2 weeks, right ? That was 10 months before The NY Times gave us their opinion. And you have to realize that Sharpton was not just a "spokesman" for the trio and family...he was the #1 racial rabble-rouser to the black community. Their motives were NEVER "pure" -- they knew it was a hoax from Day 1 and that explains why they acted the way they did. They could never have Glenda or Tawana Brawley face the media or the Grand Jury or AG Bob Abrams: they would have indicted the 3 clowns as guilty in framing 3 innocent white men. You were dead WRONG to give them "the benefit of the doubt" -- they knew from Day 1 the girl was lying. That's why they paid the Brawley Family $400,000 to go along with The Hoax. It's why they wouldn't let Tawana or Glenda testify -- they would have either committed perjury OR indicted Sharpton & Co. as liars and exposed them as racist frauds. I don't know if you were "pinheads" -- you clearly saw the defamation and slander but didn't sent enough of an award to really punish the bigots. Reading what you wrote above, I don't think you had a clear command of the early facts of the case which proved to all that it was a hoax with Glenda and Tawana trying to fool her abusive, drug addict, drunk BF Ralph King. Sharpton & Co. had nothing to do with that, true...but they then continued the lie and hoax when Glenda and Tawana got nailed by a neighbor and the cops (nobody was supposed to see Tawana covered in dog poop except Ralph King). They lied...they paid the Brawleys to say nothing and go along with The Hoax.....they engaged in obstruction of justice, mail fraud, and bank fraud among other crimes....this was all lost by the media and it seems based on what you wrote, even the jurors in the cases (Grand Jury, Defamation suit)., Thanks for your service, I know you did your best, I just wish the media had done a better job of informing you of the facts as you might have issued a much stronger decision to punish Sharpton & Co. for their lies, slander, and bigotry.
