I adore Stargate Atlantis, & no offense to the guy from season 1 who was written out, but Jason made the series even better. I think Ronan is one of my favorite syfy characters, Jason was so well cast for that part & I couldn't imagine anyone else doing it.

@[Redacted] Yup, as others said it was Ford. And replacing Ford with Ronon was one of the best ideas creators of all SG shows ever came up with. Initially inspired by other characters, also from other IPs - Teal'c, Spock and a few others. They have however managed to not do blunt copy and paste and to create completely distinct character that does not resemble any of it's predecessors too much (including Teal'c). In fact now, like 15 years later with new shows appearing this incarnation of alien amongst own people feels still fresh and good which is an achievement too really.

I liked Ford, but I really love Jason's Ronon Dex. He's the reason I became a fan of the show. I wish: 1) the series ran for at least one more season, 2) Jason had a bigger part in the series, 2) that they made a movie for the big screen after the series ended.

You REALLY need to see the episodes. You can buy DVDs for all 5 seasons. Jason's in seasons 2 through 5. Worth every penny! And it's not just Jason. All the cast members have great chemistry with one another and the stories are good.

I think the backstory of him being a runner goes against the grain of how he's used as a member or Sheppard's team, His success in staying alive for some indeterminate period (but what seems like it would be at least a year or two) means he's highly intelligent, yet he's always portrayed as a childishly petulant caveman, who's rarely called upon to come up with ideas, just muscle.

The Wraith stopped feeding because it could sense Ronon was much stronger and more resilient than most people...so decided the was a "better use for him" and they made him a runner.

They don't do it to kill him when implanting him. It is more for training and entertainment purposes. And after the procedure they do try to shoot him and feed on him, but aren't successful anymore up until this point.

Some of those cast members were towards the end of their career/retiring after leading successful long-running tv shows, like Richard Dean Anderson (original MacGyver). Some led tv shows that lasted several years, like Amanda Tapping. Depending on your definition of "big," these two can call themselves "big" as well. Sometimes having a tv series pays more in the long run unless your movie deal is a big hit and you've got box office returns % which is usually not given to actors unless they are well established box office draw (cost more than budget allows so was given % to make up for it). This is why you see a lot of "big screen" actors moving to tv shows or tv movies.
