Yeah, that's the one thing you can rely on the Rwby community to do, heavy spoilers due to not being able to keep their mouths shut. They act like everyone has seen everything they've seen which is rather annoying. -__- Apologies on their behalf, and I can tell she's enjoying it thus far. I do wish the chops weren't there and we could see the entire episodes, but I don't know how youtube is treating those as of late. The great thing about episode 8 is not only that here we establish the relationships between characters as such, but it is a demonstration of how masterful Monty Oum was at creating quite dynamic and well-choreographed action scenes with multiple characters participating at the same time and how everyone takes advantage of their abilities in such creative ways to act as a team, just seeing how team RWBY ends that Nevermore is impressive. I would also like to mention the fabulous soundtrack of the series, specifically the song Red Like Roses Part 2. The best song in all of RWBY.

One thing I really wish RWBY had the resources for in early seasons is stronger worldbuilding. There’s SO much that would probably go into a society like this that just goes completely unexplored: is weapon engineering a class taught at Beacon or is that a completely separate field? Ruby mentions that students at Signal forge their own weapons in like ep2 or 3, but this is never brought up again and neither is maintenance. Most weapons have names, are those used to order parts or anything like that? What about Huntsman symbols? Like you mentioned, is there a whole field of business dedicated to making combat gear or Huntsman ‘merch’? Are Huntsman treated like celebrities (Ruby asks for Glynda’s autograph but once again nothing like that happens again)? How do normal people feel about everything? What do societies do to reduce Grimm attraction-are things like mental health extremely emphasized, or do they go in the opposite direction and push toxic positivity too much? What are the differences in culture between the kingdoms, and then on top of that the differences in culture between people born outside the kingdoms vs inside. There’s just so much I want to know about this world. It would be cool to see a reboot of the series that takes a more MHA route and really delves into the societal impacts of Huntsman and Grimm, because as it stands now we know FAR too little about the world imo, or at the very least, we know way to little about what “normal” life is like. CRWBY… plz I crave the details

There's only one answer-- _gotta have longer runtimes._ Without larger episodes, you will never have that increased characterization/worldbuilding. Like you say, bigger Viz budgets might help. If the show revives under Viz management, the next step would be "RWBY Remastered;" doubling the runtime for V.1-V.3

I know it's cliche to dunk on Miles and Kerry, regardless of whether they deserve it or not unfortunately, but the sad reality does seem to be that they either: A.) Good at ideas, but bad at execution or B.) Bad at deciding what's important enough to actually go in the show Though sometimes it feels like a mix of both. Small runtimes can work. The early volumes aren't perfect, but they feel more coherent than the later volumes because they worked within themselves and didn't try to force anything too unnecessary in. RT's failing is that they put too much fluff into a runtime that couldn't really handle it while also failing to communicate certain things within the show that should have really been done within the show. For example, apparently it was ALWAYS the plan for Sun to lose and for Bumblebee to be the canon Blake ship. Looking at the show though, you'd NEVER know that. I only found out about it through a video criticizing Bumblebee which had a video clip of Miles saying that in it.

I think that the reason Ruby and Jaune were picked as the leaders of their teams is that if you pay close attention to the dialogue. You can see that they have the skills to come up with plans that their teams are quick to follow through with, and succeed at doing. I love how this show portrays half siblings as simply siblings. So many people get weird when it comes to the topic of half siblings and always feel the need to be like “HALF sibling” and put emphasis on “half” as if it’s meant to take away from the fact that they’re siblings. My brother and I are close like Ruby and Yang and we’re half siblings too but we love each other just the same as siblings that share both parents. I just think it’s so cool that Ruby & Yang are just sisters. They love each other and don’t let the “half” get between them.

One thing about episodes 9 and 10 that I really like is the fact that the show makes it clear that Weiss is wrong about her assessment of herself, but not _completely_ wrong about her assessment of Ruby. Ruby was slacking off, not paying attention in class, and frankly acting her age. That last one isn't inherently bad, but when you've been moved up two grades, and so may be behind on some of the learning and maturing of your peers, that can make a big difference, especially for the training that they have to go through. Ruby needed the advice Ozpin gave her as much as Weiss needed Port's lecture. It's something I appreciate because it's important to remember that someone can be "in the wrong," without being "wrong."

I like the interaction between Ruby and Weiss, who are totally opposite girls and have to live together. Maybe I would have liked that the conflict of Weiss thinking that she should be the leader of the team not to be resolved so soon, although at least the conversations with Ozpin and Port seemed correct to me. Also, with that little dialogue at the end of episode 10, it shows us that despite being a rich girl, she didn't always have everything she wanted and that shows that she probably didn't have a good childhood.

Monty Oum (creator of the show and voice actor of Ren) basically animated episode 8 by himself (fight scenes were a particular speciality of his). The collapse of Ren at the end of the fight with the Deathstalker was pretty much a statement of how he felt after the effort he put in on animating this episode.

More than 7 years have passed and I'm still in love with V1E8. That afternoon, I started the series not knowing what I would find, nor that it would be discovering one of my most beloved series in my life. The trailers and first episode caught my attention, so I kept watching. But THIS episode, for me is perfect in every aspect, the comedy, the characters, the music, the battles. THIS episode made me a huge fan, some of the songs helped me through some hard moments, and as a kind of tribute, I even made my own emblem (my profile pic). I truly enjoy watching people's reactions and get so excited when they react the same way like I did back on the day. And for that, I can only say thank you. I want to post this as an answer to Elijah's comment about the Wizard of Oz/Ozpiz comparisons, hopefully this doesnt count as a spoiler as it has foreshadowing for future events in the story: Most of the main characters in RWBY are loosely tied in some way to actual fairytales. I don't remember all of them, but I know the main 8 each have their own connections, and as she said in a previous video, Ruby is tied with Red Riding Hood, and Jaune is tied to Joan of Arc. These ties are reflected in their personalities and designs.

Weiss thinking she should be the leader is hilarious because she’s SO badly suited for it - we see when she and Ruby fight together in the forest that Weiss struggles to track what others are doing, much less conduct everyone in a strategy. Note she only beat the Boarbatusk because she took Ruby’s advice - Ruby noticed it’s weakness where Weiss didn’t! Her best moments are when she’s supporting others, and when she accepts help. Something she needs to learn to do more. Port sees that. Like, being a leader and strategist isn’t the same as being a good solo fighter, Jaune being leader of JNPR despite being the weakest teammate proves it. It’s nice to see the show recognize that you can be weak as an individual and still do a lot to support the group. Also. Consider the first interactions everyone on that team had with Weiss. Generally she was hostile and met with hostility in turn. If she thought she was not just allowed, but obligated, to boss R-BY around? Blake would’ve smothered her to death with a pillow within a week and Yang and Ruby would’ve hidden the body.

At the end you mention how short these episodes are, just remember this was when RWBY was being made with little to no actual budget. That's why all the background characters are just silhouettes, and the voice actors were either friends of Rooster Teeth or working at Rooster Teeth in other departments (I think Weiss' voice actor was actually their receptionist at the time). Don't worry though next volume they'll definitely have longer running times!

I hope its not considered spoilers as Im not sharing future details. But Monty did say character eye color was VERY IMPORTANT for each character design and their fairy tale background. Given the early volumes especially where characters stuck to three colors for their wardrobe, the eyes were often very vibrant or popped as they would be a different color to the rest of the design. Pyrha having green Blake having yellow Yang having lavander/red Nora having teal Ren having pink Color theory was played very well in these early volumes

not only that, but how much the actual show has evolved visually. i tend to think of the show as “the POSER engine era” and “the Maya engine era” for the animation engines they used, but even within those, the show is like constantly evolving. V1 and V3 both use POSER but there’s a world of difference in the assets, camera angles, rendering, and movement

I’m an old RWBY fan who was a fan since (I wanna say volume 2? But it’s been so long I don’t remember), and watching my favorite people react to my childhood shows is just so healing for my inner child. When I was a kid no one cared to watch what I liked, and it was sad because I always loved watching people’s reactions to things I enjoyed when they also got invested. Hearing what they thought too, like if they notice something I didn’t or interpreted something else differently. Most of the time I was always criticized for what I liked. For some odd reason even in 1st-3rd grade I was bullied for liking my little pony (still don’t understand why I was the target audience). Sorry for the ramble, I’m just o happy that this old show that I loved is resurfacing again!

Yes, the girls do complement each other well. And though it's subtle, Bake is cool headed and smarter than Yang. While Yang is stronger and more headstrong. But, they respect and like each other; making a true brains and brawn team-up. Probably why Bake deliberately chose Yang to be her partner. The same balancing out is true for Ruby and Weiss, though they hooked up by accident. Once they settle down and get to know each other better, they'll be a great team. As for Pyrrha, she too deliberately chose Jaune. She obviously has seen something in him, everyone else has missed. She just needs to train him up, to be her great partner. As for Ren and Nora. She's strong and a bit on the wild side, While he's cool and almost zen. But, as Nora herself has said "We've been together for sooo long". Also, Nora is so obviously in love with Ren. And though, he hides it, he may just feel the same about her. Why else would he put up with her for sooo long.. They must have a tremendous back story.

Word of advice, if you want to cosplay as Blake, have someone else gather the images for you. Just to be safe, don't even do an image search on any of the characters. Even going to an online cosplay store is risky.

The fight with the Deathstalker and Nevermore was what really locked me in on this show as it was airing. Not just the fight, but that music, gdamn! A lot of RWBY reactors go back and listen to the soundtracks at the end of each season, as the lyrics does a lot of character work as the show goes on and it's hard to catch some things with foreground fights/dialogue. Even if you can't put the soundtrack reaction on KZbin for copyright reasons, maybe make it a Patreon exclusive? Great reaction; looking forward to the rest of the show!

She can definitely do the soundtracks. Basically every reaction channel I've watched more than 1 episode of does soundtrack reactions. Even channels that claim "they usually don't do music reactions". This is probably because 1) RWBY music is better than most modern pop music once you give it a listen. 2) The tracks have so much meaning tied into the shows characters 3) The fandom always asks for it... Not that I blame us. ❤

it’s a nice thing you noticed- color is important in rwby. it’s explained further in the future, but everything you noticed is absolutely intentional. every character has a color motif relating to their (combat) partner. ruby has silver eyes and other splashes of white on her outfit, and weiss has her red collar blake has yellow eyes, and yang has lilac eyes and a purple bandana on her leg the same goes for jnpr! - also i love that you’ve taken a quick attachment to blake!! she’s my favorite too and i’m excited to see your reaction to where her character goes in the future

What’s really cool about the first few volumes especially, is that the directors literally name the exact person who had a direct hand in that scene or even specific asset, whether it be animating, sound design, writing etc. Time restraint and budget is an indie projects biggest enemy but the passion CRWBY have for it is why we all love this show.

-Peter Port - Peter and the Wolf Episode 8: Honestly this was the episode that got me hooked on this show. As it was for a lot of people. Seeing the teams coming together is beyond amazing. Episode 9+10: Don’t worry. The bunk beds only look unstable. I’m sure someone else has already mentioned this but all the weapons have names. - Ruby - Crescent Rose (sniper scythe) - Weiss - Myrtenaster (rapier with revolving Dust chamber) - Blake - Gambol Shroud (ballistic variant chain scythe - a katana that collapses into a gun on a ribbon, sheathe also is a cleaver) - Yang - Ember Celica (shotgun gauntlets) - Jaune - Crocea Mors (sword and shield) - Nora - Magnhild (grenade launcher/hammer) - Pyrrha - Milo and Akuo (spear/rifle and shield) - Ren - Stormflower (Gun knives) - Torchwick - Melodic Crudgel (gun cane) - Glynda - Disciplinarian (riding crop) And speaking of things people have already told you about, music is a big thing in this series. The soundtrack for each volume is almost as anticipated as the volumes themselves. So I’d highly recommend checking out those soundtracks after each volume either as reactions or on your own (though I promise the FNDM will show up for those reactions as well).
