I Saw The Movie When It Was Released, The Technology Was Ahead Of It's Time.

When I heard about the actors’ strike a few months ago and how one thing they were against was the studios owning the digital imaging of actors to use as they see fit, the first thing that came to mind was this movie.

This video was a blast! Thanks for posting. Especially appreciate the audio recording of the song - at the end - also fun to see the video meters and tape deck levels!! Well done!!

Thanks for the comment! At the end of the movie, the song plays as the fake commercials run alongside the credits, and initially I had just left that. Unfortunately that caused the video to be blocked, so went back and overlaid the shots of VU meters etc. Glad you enjoyed it!

My friend they call it don't forget man they call this kind of stuff call predictive programming don't forget this kind of stuff influence people to go on in life and create the real deal. Ray harryhausen the guy that created King Kong stop-motion who do you think that influenced by him Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, George Lucas, John lantus, every generation get insurance man and when you get influenza you get inspired that makes you run outside saying yeah I can do that I can invent that. And guess what years later you do😅

I randomly found this movie on tubi today. I vaguely remembered parts of the movie from when I watched it on cable in the early 80's. I now shall buy the blu-ray and add it to my collection. I enjoy these prophetic science fi thrillers. I also recently found a paperback from 1985 called Brother Jonathan by Crawford Kilian the correctly predicts neural implants, tablet computers, A.I avatars, and more. The author is as much of a futurist as Crichton. A great vid! Thanks!

I don't see why there was ever any confusion; once the models are scanned, they are killed so they don't need to continue paying them to use their image.

OK, thanks for clarifying. I remember this movie, and thought it was very fascinating. But I couldn't recall why the girls were getting killed (or committing suicide as the movie implies in the beginning).

The Looker Movie also reminds one that technology can be used for good or evil. And it is up to us to limit how much that "technology" affects us. Great review and Great Movie.

Omg....the soundtrack at the end is epic. I think this film as a remake could even go a step further....it should be remade. Great job on the review! Most people have never seen this film. I saw it in the theatre. Thank you.

Most card key systems do have an option to show door use in real time - and I've seen them used this way - companies just don't always bother to do this but scan the logs if there is an anomaly

Thanks! The positive comments are always appreciated! Seeing this movie as a kid on HBO and re-watching now, it was interesting to notice different things, like the politician saying we're "overwhelmed by inflation" and "manipulated by faceless media companies" I feel like in some ways I am re-living the 1970s... But the 70s were a lot more fun as a toddler than as an adult!

I always assumed they killed the models so that they no longer had to pay them. They made it look like suicide.
@alfreddreamerphotocomics48802 жыл бұрын
I think it made it better by there being real furniture in the commercials, You could really feel the virtual human contrast to the real setting. It emphasized how digitally interchangeable the corporation felt their models were. It also made an ironic, yet fitting death for its CEO.

The extra song track reminds me of a couple of songs. Tubular Bells , by Mike Oldfield (think 'Ecorcist'), and Bettie Davis Eyes, by Kim Carnes.
@ACBMemphis Жыл бұрын
Yeah I can hear the similar synth sound... Bette Davis Eyes also from 81... Thanks for watching! And speaking of Kim Carnes she recorded a version of "Looker" herself: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZ3ZqWtoi5amY6s

I know it seems funny that they would use a real background furniture call my kitchen table, Etc. But they can use the memory saved for further perfecting the CG actors. I was in high school when the computers first showed up and I did a 13-second automobile graphic cartoon if you will of a 69 Mustang backing up did took hundreds and hundreds of steps in Lyons in abbreviations in all in basic language and it was Atari 2600 looking all the way that was a great review brought back a lot of memories and I believe there's a lot more of this technology than the public is allowed to know LOL😂

Yes my first computer was kilobytes of RAM.. I was also thinking after uploading this, even pre-computer, hand-drawn animation such as Looney Tunes used a fixed background and animated characters so this designed to be similar.... Anyway thanks for watching and commenting!

I really enjoyed seeing this movie in the cinema in 1981. Science fiction, technology of the future, action, car chases, weapons of the future, futuristic sunglasses, beautiful women, electronic music from synthesizers, mixing of reality with virtual reality, images generated by computer which was a rarity at this time and a company by the name of Digital Matrix, inc. Because of this and other movies I've seen. When I saw The Matrix Movie, it already seemed like an old movie despite being new at the time in 1999.

I got to the theater late man I caught the wrong bus and got to the theaters, I only came in with a playing volleyball on the beach, and Susan dey was the only reason why I went so I can go see her finance on the big screen the time I didn't give a f*** about computers I didn't know where the computer was or AI so I paid $3 to see half of a movie then went home found me a prostitute and f*****😊😅

@@ACBMemphis I would guess it was the HBO version. That's where I first saw it. And they ran a few other movies with added deleted scenes that never showed up on VHS or DVD versions.

The first time I saw it was on HBO. Being a young kid I can't quite remember if the deleted scenes were in it or not. I do know when aliens was aired on CBS it had a lot of the deleted scenes in it and much like this movie, it helped explain some questions we had.
@RedVynil2 жыл бұрын
@@GR-bn3xj I don''t understand why they do that! I saw, "High Fidelity" on HBO back in the `80's and then bought the DVD about 20 years later and it had a lot of the scenes I remember being IN the movie now being relegated to deleted scenes!! WHY?? It's on a DVD!! LEAVE THOSE SCENE IN WHERE THEY BELONG!!
@webmonkees2 жыл бұрын
@@RedVynil As long as you have source media.. Edit it back in. Just avoid anything the editors wouldn't have at the time. These days they're not finalized until you're seated with popcorn, and the studio rushing to get a trailer together in December for a July release.

I have to wonder if this light gun really exists. There is a scene in the movie where the Albert Finney character gets "shot" by it and has missing time of a couple hours or more. He looks at a clock and is confused by this.Could this be what happens to people who claim to be abducted by aliens? I had my own experience where I missed an entire day, and assumed I must have been abducted. I question this though, maybe the government, C.I.A whatever, are actually the ones that do this, "blaming" it on "aliens". I don't know what to believe, but I need to question everything.
