the F-14 Tomcat is by far the best looking carrier borne fighter ever . . . even after 40 years still looks more in line with present day fighter than the 1970s . . . in present day warfare a couple of radar absorbing coatings should minimize the F-14 RCS to some extent . . .

@Brian Roome He was the initial/original designer of the F-14. Many engineers made it work. And many more built it. However, the original was his. In fact, after a mod to stretch it, they had trouble trapping. They choppered him from his hometown ( Smithtown, Long Island, NY ), to a carrier off the coast, to troubleshoot. Result: they needed to extend the hook! Countless numbers of people engineered & worked on it over the years, but, does not change the fact!

@ironroad182 жыл бұрын
@@mattrubin89 the F-22 didn't need to be faster than the F-15. It has a far better radar, more fuel efficient engines, lower radar cross section, and is far more agile than the F-15. The F-22 can actually operate at a higher combat service ceiling, while the F-15 can carry more ordinance and has a faster dash speed. The F-15 is GREAT, but the F-22 is superior. However, the F-22 costs a lot more to purchase, operate, and maintain; hence why the USAF and Air National Guard have flown the F-15C to the brink of near structural failure.

@ well said. Every country makes mistakes and ever country has done things that they may regret or would prefer it was left in the dark. Every country. Decisions made in war are particularly contentious as reading the situation from your armchair after the event without ALL the information of any incident is usually the act of someone that either has a political agenda or just a damned fool. Usually a damned fool that would harm their own nation rather than stand up for it. As a Scot I'm surrounded by people that want to destroy the UK because they're emotional about events that occurred 700 years ago or 400 years ago or 200 years ago. They pick single events of history and frane everything in that context. Sorry to rant but it really irritates me to see people that are desperate to damage their own countries by being useful idiots for politicians. God bless the UK, USA, our allies in NATO and all our brothers in arms. 🇺🇸🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴☠️🇨🇦🇮🇱🇳🇿🇭🇲🇦🇺🇧🇪🇨🇵🇩🇪

the start of the video shows 2 retired u.s. military equipment both the beautiful F-14 tomcat and the mighty lowa class battle ship. (according to "the numbers") the battle ship was only relivent because of the cruise missiles strapped onto it. but if you ask the Iraqis who where targets of the extremely powerful 16 inch guns they are still extremely effective against anything they target that is within its 20+ mile range.

The reason the ai8r war was over so fast was because the Iraqis ordered fax machines from a Japanese company ( that I will not name) .It had a I'm here chip inside that would emit a signal when asked by a fighter jet, to turn on when asked. All the "fax machines" would announce there position which was at ALL Command and control air bases . Watching this documentary and the US Navy of the time, (beginning of the 90s), I regret that we still haven't designed and included into an air wing a designated fleet defense aircraft, a worthy replacement for the venerable F-14 Tomcat. Of course now it wouldn't make sense to produce a Super Tomcat since the technology has developed enough so that the next fleet defense air platform can be fully unmanned UAV.. The traits this imagined Tomcat successor should have are.... Stealth, capable of supersonic speeds, large magazine depth and, what's most important - range, a huge range of 2000 miles or a radius of at least a 1000 miles. Next, this UAV needs a next generation of air to air missiles. Thankfully USAF is working on two missiles in this extremely long range category to counter the Chinese PL-15. These are AIM-260 and a Long range engagement weapon or LREW. These to missiles aren't competing for the same program, they will both be developed. We're talking about a hypersonic air 2 air missile with at least 150-200 mile range. Of course, advanced high tech tri mode guidance system is a must so the jammers can't mess with it.. So, combining this UAV with an advanced A2A missile is a true game changer that would make our super carriers relevant for the next 100 years. Of course lasers should be incorporated into this UAVs as soon as the technology matures enough so they can be a viable defense weapon capable of shooting down enemy's cruise and A2A missiles....

19:37 It is true the Patriot Missile didn't work as portrayed. There was a flaw in its system that got worse over the time it was tracking a SCUD. The SCUD was a weapon that distance was preferred over accuracy, so the warhead of a SCUD wobbled and it moved faster than the Patriot's system could respond to. Most of what was seen on T.V. of Patriot's destroying SCUDs were actually Patriot missiles being detonated in mid-air because they either missed their target by a long-shot, they were in the right place but at the wrong time, and had to be detonated so they didn't wound or kill civilians.
@TonymanCS4 жыл бұрын
Wrong. Most studies only studied remains of Al-Hussein warheads and found that many of them had no Patriot warhead fragments but ignored the fact Al-Hussein rockets often broke up after re-entering atmosphere into several pieces. There was a good possibility Patriot went for spent fuel tanks or other bigger pieces of the rocket (warhead of Al-Hussain was very, very small, weights around 500kg vs Scud's 980kg) that nobody ever bothered to study. The first proofs of this low reliability of Al-Hussein was in hands of Iranian. The conclusion is Patriot probably had pretty high hit rate but its HE warhead and short range prevented it to intercept rockets before they broke up. Who the hell would expect a rocket to break up into pieces? fas.org/nuke/guide/iraq/missile/scud_info/scud_info_s04.htm#V.%20IRAQ%E2%80%99S%20USE%20OF%20SCUDS%20DURING%20OPERATION%20DESERT%20STORM citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.864.6245&rep=rep1&type=pdf

Every timesomebody comes up with a more powerful weapon it means that some one else is going to have to better it seems to have escaped the notice of a lot of people,, it also shows that there is a lack of common sense to the fact that this WILL happen, and will only escalate the move forward to more death and desrtuction by doing so . I for one would like to see at least the same if not more effort in reducing ill health around the world, which would benifit all mankind, and in fact possibly ecorage people to work together at ridding the world of problems in that area, the truth is that killing them off is by no means a sane aprouch regardless of who it is.

America will never fight another war for Israel.

And just how do you know this? Let me tell you you something, if the United States doesn't, somebody else will. In fact, there were no American weapons when Israel fought for their own independence. It was Yugoslavia and French. Israel is quite capable of taking care of itself.

We continue to do against all of our wishes , even Trump has become a NEO CON on fighting for Israel , how much money did we give to Israel last year ? How many Trillions of dollars will we give to Israel this year ? Israel is a big boy now they can and should protect themselves !

@@oceanhome2023 protecting Israel is much more complex than people seem to understand. If another war kicks off against Israel it has the potential to become a world war. You ask why? Because Israel has nuclear weapons. Due to its location it is beneficial to the world to both stop any attacks upon Israel and to keep Israel strong as well as keeping the world energy supplies running. Look at the energy crisis of the early 70s. That came about partly due to Israels neighbour's trying to destroy Israel. It's not the USA that relies on the ME btw, it is the ROW. We protect Saudi Arabia and most of the nations on the Arabian Peninsula, so don't assume that it's only Israel the US and others protect. Remember, Israel is a small nation that has a strong military and second to none intelligence service. We either accept they deserve to keep their country as the alternative is what? The population of Israel going somewhere else?

To Ron and Dr. H - "Trillions?" The last time I checked the official number was about 3.8 billion/year, which is much much less than what the US gives to the rest of the nations in the region that actually don't care much for Israel.....but, "Trillions?" USA has been giving protection to over 1/2 of the world since WWII (as official foreign relations policies and agreements with other nations), Israel is just a tiny piece of that and they do a great job at protecting themselves without help from USA. They destroyed Iraqi nuclear site in 1981 and the Syrian nuclear site in 2007 (I think it was 2007) and they did these without US knowledge or US military involvement. US military DID GO all out to form a world coalition to defend Kuwait from Saddam Hussein. So, it seems the US has actually fought no wars for Israel at all, but some how some people make claims that the US fights too many wars for Israel. Based on my own research the US has cared mostly about the ME oil and protecting the freedom of world trade and shipping of that oil and not much else, except, again, to protect/liberate "Kuwait" from Saddam. Of course there was also US military reactions as a result of 9--11, but I know of no war that the US has fought to protect Israel, much less multiple wars. USA had never given any "military" aid or support to Israel until "after" the six day war in 1967. Israel is an amazing, valuable, smart, productive, democratic nation. "In my opinion", this is why smart Americans are happy to be friends with Israel and even protect them if they ever need protection. The hate that some people have for Israel makes no sense and completely illogical and in fact can only cause problems for America, not benefits for America. It seems there is some magical force working in the world to make people hate Israel for no reason (especially for Americans), because there is no logical reason. PEACE!
