I was 31 yrs old when I served as a US Naval Aviator during "Operation Desert Storm". I flew over 30 missions in the F/A-18. To Mr. Gruber in particular, I am now 61 yrs old. I am still 5'8, 165 lbs. When I was in the service, I had an expert rating in unarmed combat, and am still in great shape, and have "kept current" as they say. Anytime you want to meet, just let me know. I would be more than happy to adjust your attitude toward those who serve. And to those other commentators who don't know any better, trust me, Desert Storm was no joke or ever easy. Obviously, you've never been shot at. Please remember this: those of us who serve in the military do so to give you the constitutional right to have free speech.

I remember these videos. Watched them many times. As an American, it was good to see the contributions of the other NATO airforces in the fight. Loved the comeradery and willingness to put the years of training to the real test. I'm very proud of all who served in that coalition. 3 cheers for freedom and the highly skilled warriors we produce!!!

Those were nets with spreaders underneath. They may not have actually had tents if the weather was hot. I used those a lot during the 90s in the Corps.

The Saudi airforce were all trained by RAF instructors and pilots, a large percentage of Saudi pilots were ex-RAF pilots who joined the Saudi Air Force after they had left the RAF.

Really? Saudi nationals that served in RAF?
@jamesmaddison4546 Жыл бұрын
@@terrenceescarda8951 No, other way round. Alot of former RAF pilots went and flew for the Saudis. Made a shitload of money doing so too. Now, former RAF pilots are making a big mistake. Couple weeks ago I heard about some going to China and being paid over 200k a year to train the Chinese pilots, and the UK government is deservedly crushing them for it. Those pilots going to train the pilots of a serious future enemy in NATO tactics, strategy etc is treasonous. They're having their citizenship and passport revoked and being put on notice that's it's not a good idea to return to the UK.

Will Lyman. Legend. He also did the Frontline multi-episode on the gulf War. Superb in that, with an even bigger part than these wings episodes. Wings actually did a 2 part lead-up to the war. It made quite accurate predictions of what would happen. All these series tend to underplay or disregard the role of the F111-F in the air campaign. Old plane that could carry heavy bombs and the laser/camera pods to guide them just as well as an A-6 or F-117.

Effectively The 1st Gulf War ended low level ground strike as a viable attack strategy…. Unguided munitions and low level runs were exposed and the RAF suffered for it…. Low level attack even from the viewpoint of the Ukraine war is now a very risky business…

A6 v. A10. What drove the Marine's/Navy's decision???
@koc9883 жыл бұрын
The A-10 is useless in a war that has an IADS, it is simply not survivable in the 2003 gulf war they were shot down and in 1991 their job really wasn't carried out as their tanking roll was overstated and done much better by other airframes.
@mmmmburgerz94429 ай бұрын
@@koc988 That’s debatable. Tactics and the human element are part of it. Negligence and over confidence got F-16s shot down in the Gulf War in poorly mapped out missions and the A-10s friendly fire incidents came from poor communications. The F-15 pegged two friendly blackhawks after a AWACS calls and visually looking at them, yet no one harps on them for it. The A-10 and new coming aircraft it inspired prove there is still a place for slow speed aircraft. Speed and tech didn’t stop 800 F-105s and F-4s from being shot down. Ignorance is fatal.
