My mom worked near the old Flat Iron building in Norfolk while my dad was stationed there in 1951/2. I was conceived in Norfolk, born in Iowa in Oct 1952, so as a car lover there’s already a connection to your shop. If I didn’t know that GTO door glass had been replaced, it might have taken 2 seals to figure it out. I’m re-wiring a 70 F250, then my 77 Scout. Doing it right with new connectors, solder, wrap, & heat shrink. Thanks for going back in the air, I enjoy & appreciate your videos.

Thank you so much for all the hard work and transparency about your business over the years. Your journey certainly inspired me to open a little restoration shop just last year. Well I certainly got my first dose of reality of trying to make money at it. It's been a real eye opener to say the least but I can't say you didn't warn me 😆 I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to make this work and low and behold your last upload answered my question. If you want to have a restoration business you just about have to have another form of income to prop it up so you can afford to do what you love. 🤣🤣 Then to add to it your passion about farming reminded me of an old farmer just outside of town that ended up having a couple oil wells drilled on his farm back in the 80's. It was a huge windfall for him of course. My dad asked him what was he going to do now with all that money. He replied "well sir I can now afford to keep farming for the rest of my life, what more can a man ask for" think my dad was speechless for a moment! Now I can certainly relate to the old farmer. I love what I do now I just have to figure out how to not go broke in the process 😁

I Just built a small block Chevy for my 89 Silverado in my driveway I started with a salvage short block that I picked up for $300 I rebuilt the heads at home including doing a valve job reassembled the entire Motor in 8 hours and now it is ready to go back in the truck and give me years of service. This will be the second small block Chevy engine I have built the engine is a 5.7 350 4 bolt Main. I like working on my own vehicles they tend to last a lot longer my first vehicle was a 91 Aerostar that had over 600 thousand miles on it at the time it was junked. motor and transmission never had a day of problem and still was running perfectly fine when I had to junk it due to body Rott. when you work on your own vehicle it becomes apart of your family the hardest thing I ever had to do is get rid of such a reliable vehicle because of sheet metal damage it was so bad you could no longer put it on a hoist as Parts would fall off of it so just before I pulled it into the junkyard I stopped in the middle of the road and boiled the tires off of it as a farewell send-off for years of quality service

Hi from Vancouver 🇨🇦 Enjoying your videos Dan. For this I agree with you on a simple job, especially on the older cars, anyone with basic mechanical knowledge could say change an alternator. However, I know my limits and anything complex where I feel its over my skill set I ask a mechanic, cheaper than me trying and screwing it, because it will always cost more to fix my mistakes.

I used to have English sports cars from the sixties. My standard practice was to pack paper towels between the windshield header and the convertible top to control the leaks if it rained, and to bring a spare roll with me to fight the water coming in if things got heavy. Perhaps the tops got dry in the california weather, but the condition seemed odd for an English car. The cars were so small the area really wasn't hard to manage, except once in awhile going around a corner, a flood of water would come off the corner of the windshield header if the towels got soaked.

The owners should know their capabilities while discussing what they should & shouldn't do . How do you feel about customers bringing in their own parts for you to work with ? By their own parts I mean NOS or new repro , rechromed bumpers & polished stainless . Not junk yard parts in worse condition than what's on the vehicle .

There's a saying that associates with parts of this episode. You can have things fast, cheap or good but you can only pick 2. If you want it fast and cheap, it's not going to be good. If you want it fast and good, it isn't going to be cheap. And finally, if you want it good and cheap you aren't getting it fast.

I've experienced a car fire before where it burned through the wiring harness which was a very scary code brown moment i won't ever forget i put over 400.000 miles on the car so i had my money's worth out of it

I mean I think it depends entirely on the owner. If it was my project and it was going to be completely custom wired from scratch, I would just assume I was doing that part - that is my forte. But I'd have no interest in doing body work or setting the proper preload on a pinion gear. Its just like that old saying about the menu "If you have to ask what it costs, you probably can't afford it" In this case it's " If you question whether you should do it yourself, you probably shouldn't"

I do all my own stunts because because I don't trust the quality of work from auto mechanics. But I also am a 10 yr experienced diesel mech that now works as a mechanic and a factory.

Sorry Dan I'm probably wrong but I kind of feel like you are trying to apologize? Your heart is in the fact in reality of rebuilding and restoring of course modifying quality cars with heart and there is no need to apologize. I would say 80% of the population does not know anything about this, in 20% do not understand or know what it takes to restore or customize your dream come true car
