When Viktor Navorski (Tom Hanks), an Eastern European tourist, arrives at JFK in New York, war breaks out in his country and he finds himself caught up in international politics. Because of the war, the Department of Homeland Security won't let him enter or exit the United States. He's trapped at JFK -- indefinitely. While living at the airport, Viktor falls for a flight attendant (Catherine Zeta-Jones). She may have feelings for him too. But what good is love if Viktor can't leave the terminal?

RIP to the original "Terminal Man" Merhan Karimi Nasseri (1945-2022). He lived in Terminal 1 at Paris' Charles de Gaulle Airport from 1988 until 2006. When he finally received refugee papers, he described his surprise, and his insecurity, about leaving the airport. He reportedly refused to sign them, and ended up staying there several more years until he was hospitalized in 2006, and later lived in a Paris shelter. In the weeks before his death, Nasseri had been again living at Charles de Gaulle, the airport official said.

This is one of those hidden gems and so darn unique in its own way. The movie itself is a little scattered with all it sub plots and issues, but ultimately, came to a satisfying conclusion. It had a bit of everything, and proves that heart and determination can overcome anything!

I used to like The Terminal but when you find out the real life story of the guy at the airport, it's typical Hollywood exploitation. Not to mention there's advertising of one company or another in as many scenes as they can. It really treats the audience like idiots.

Mr mehran karimi who was the inspiration behind this amazing movie, sadly died yesterday in france terminal. He lived most of his last 18 years in the terminal. Rest in piece.

True fact: this movie was inspired by Mehran Karimi Nasseri aka Sir Alfred Mehran, was an Iranian refugee who lived in the departure lounge of Terminal 1 in Charles de Gaulle Airport from 26 August 1988 until July 2006, when he was hospitalized. Also he wrote his autobiography called The Terminal Man which from was inspired of this movie. Unfortunately he has passed on yesterday at the airport due to heart attack. Rest in power, Mehran Karimi Nasseri/Sir Alfred Mehran. 🙏🏿💔😭💔🙏🏿

I was having a hard time deciding on what movie to watch. And after hours of searching I decide I'll watch one randomly from what I've shortlisted. I accidentally click on this from the other trailer and immediately felt like watching it and oh boy it was the best decision I ever took. Thanks to the comment section. This movie is pure gem. MEHRAN KARIMI NASSERI was an iranian refugee in 1988 he was stranded at the charles de gaulle in Paris,he lost his documents on the flight from iran to Paris so he decided to stay in ,terminal 1 without valid travel documents,he was unable to legally enter France or return to his home country of iran,so he started to sleep at the airport, he made his terminal as he own resident for the next 18 years, he used the staff washrooms got food from restaurant employees airport and even the airport doctor became a important reference person for him,NASSERI lived in the airport until 2006 and became a legend,his amazing story inspired the movie THE TERMINAL featuring TOM HANKS with the money he got from the movie he lived outside the airport for some time NASSERI return to the airport in 2022 but sadly he passed away from the heart attack 🖤😢

There are a _lot_ of things to appreciate about this movie, but I'll bet not many people are going to recognize and appreciate the technically accurate way it presents of the way Viktor learns _English_ while he's trapped in the airport. You can use the same approach to learn _any_ language.

Needless to say this was a very good film with very good actors, heart warming scenes and good ending. Suggests some body other may face such (or greater) problem and there are unending conflicts between many nations. Since there was a real man who spent his time in grench airport for long time, value is added. Those who watch the film will fefinitely have satisfaction and appreciation of goodness here and there. I had watched thrive till now and will not hesitate to watch more times, as it drives once attitude towards goodness.
