This film totally nailed the unstoppable machine...it makes me laugh when in later movies these unstoppable machines become cannon fodder ...and took away all of the menice and made them a laughing stock . Arnold was absolutely amazing villain. .scary as hell. ..his face in the truck at the end was EVIL epic .

Well the lethality of them is supposed to be the infiltration format. Plasma weaponry is very effective at also destroying terminators after all. And I bet the frontline skele-boys are also assemblyline quick-mashups that are moth just a little less advanced and possibly use less 'expensive' materials. We also see that regular guns are basically useless beyond stunning and temp-damage to a T-800.

Absolutely agree! These days we are shown garbage in comparison to films of years ago. Its all about profits and turnover. Its become a business and there is little room for artistic creativity, good story telling and acting. Hopefully we can change the film industries approach by not watching what they have to offer.

Arnold originally wanted to say: "I will be back." instead of the classic, iconic, line. His reasoning was that a machine wouldn't speak like that. Cameron got angry with him and asked him: "What's it say in the script??" Arnold said: "I'll be back." Cameron said: "Then say the fuckin' line!!"

I read up on a snippet from an article from Soldier of Fortune that featured Terminator. It praised the film for its accuracy in the handling of firearms in it. Most action films would have the ridiculous cliche of infinite ammunition and shooting from the hip, but with Terminator you can actually see how the weapons were handled from how they're carried, aimed and even reloaded. It's even impressive seeing Arnold dual-wielding two weapons at once, and not just from his strength either but also from how he may have been trained to fire firearms with BOTH hands. Such an impressive feat.

I let the car vids pass me by though, because as Cheese Larson would say, they're not made for me :) I'm happy they have an audience though. Keep up the great work, you're killing it. It's an amazing film. It's not played for laughs, or over-the-top. It feels real and guttural. Casting is inspired. Beihn has that classic chiselled jaw/hero features, but like you mention, he's not a model, or super bulked up; he feels like an every man grunt. Things that modern movies also very often times miss, he and the actors here, have a great voice that fits their characters also. The scenes in the future are completely believable. Something Salvation and the rest just can't seem to understand how to do. Watching this again recently myself, it's blatantly obvious what movies have lost in this age. The pacing, the character development, the lack of a need to over-hype every special effect or action sequence, leads to just great storytelling. The movie isn't perfect. Its pacing or logic only gets hampered when the terminator has to leave the scene after the chase by the police. Who cares if his eye was damaged? Sarah was a sitting duck. Or later laying down to wait for the flesh to burn away. The later is a minor logic flaw, but the former is a little bigger. Just there because the story needs the break. However, even so, it's much better than most any film going right now. Some minor silly dialogue by the police and psychologist also, but again those are minor things you only notice after watching it for 30-some years :p The film is also great for another reason. It was made basically like a run-and-gun guerrilla filmmaker. Cameron couldn't pay for permits often, so they filmed in the actual LA back alleys without one, without security, in some of the most dangerous parts. Even the scene at the end with Sarah driving off into the desert was shot without a permit. It was funny while living in LA and going to college I would pass those streets. Olympic Blvd, Broadway, Willshire, etc., and see just where it was they filmed.

Nah the film is pretty much flawless. So it took some time for the T100 to find Sarah and Kyle, but at that point they were in hiding in a motel at night, the T100 still found them eventually though and would if they had left earlier.

The thing that’s missing...at the core...from the movies made after T2 is believability. It’s ironic but if you watch all of them in a row, the one thing that you see is inconsistency within the rules established by the first two movies. Each successive movie contains more and more moments of ‘...wait...that isn’t right...’, and this newest entry contains too much of that. I believed that Arny was a T800, I believed that Sarah Connor was a real person and I identified with John Connor in T2. I can’t believe that Grace could beat a machine in a hand to hand fight, especially one that can do what the Rev9 can do. She’s still only a human and humans have cognitive limits that AI aren’t subject to. It’s why machines are so difficult to beat at chess. And Miles Dyson was a fucking hero. He left his family behind to do a greater good and died for it, and he went out with style. Who among us can say that we could do that so confidently? What in this new movie can compare to that?

Just two important points: Hurd and Cameron got into trouble with the late great Harlen Ellison because they ripped off some of his works in the process of making "The Terminator." This is why you see "Acknowlegement to the works of Harlen Ellison" when the credits roll at the end of the film. The animatronics work in "The Terminator" was done by the late great Stan Winston. Winston was widely regarded as one of the best when it came to animatronics -- which his work can been seen in many many films.

I think Michael Bien would have been the perfect action Hero in another decade. As the Video says, he looks more realistic (not neccessarily a buff guy, but athletic) but he also could portray being a Leader and someone to trust (Aliens). It's a shame he never got the chance of surviving a Hero role in his movies (Terminator, Aliens).

In basic and simpler terms, I've heard Cameron say that he was sick of truck driving and wanted to make movies. Thus, he quit his truck driving job and went into making The Terminator. Was it really as simple as that and he is just that talented to make back to back to back, etc. hit movies with seemingly no prior movie making experience? An amazing ongoing career, none the less. The Terminator is forever a scifi classic. Only Camero could properly best that with T2. The franchise was really good and done after T2 and sadly all subsequent movies prove this point. I always enjoy seeing more Terminator content and movies, but my expectations since T3 has set a very low bar for satisfaction. I agree Michael Biehn fit the role perfectly. I also think he was a good match for the classic Nintendo video game METAL gear being the poster image of the Snake character for the game cover. If the time and technology were right, he might have made a good real-life action movie of Metal Gear. But, he's a bit too old now. Maybe could play an older version of one of the Snakes.

With all the leaks about Legion etc and Connor being killed, do you remember some the things Reese tells Sarah Connor. He told her nobody knew who started the war. Which means it could been Skynet. He says computer became threat to everyone not just other side. So maybe Legion came from Russia or it was a part of Skynet that Dyson didn't have clearance for or access too. He also says how Sarah goes into hiding before the war but was a LEGEND BEFORE THE WAR. Well she seems to be a Legend. And maybe the new character is a leader in a different part of the world who doesn't know of Connor. I'm sure people are scattered throughout the world and since things have been destroyed maybe it would stop people from uniting. Im probably grasping here. I just hope Reese isn't just forgotten about. And now its like he doesn't exist . I don't know why they didn't just make three new movies but showing the future war. Come up with a reason after T2 the machines still took over and go from there. Show how Arnold and Reese get sent back. Then the second movie show the same with T1000 and the good T800. And the third movie could show Skynet trying once more but being stopped and John Connor saves mankind.

Good stuff. Can you do a video or something speaking to the difference between the "T-number" and the "model number" of terminators? For example, in early movies, Arnold is referred to as an 800-series "Cyberdine systems model 101." The sequels had T-850's, t-1000's, T-X, etc. So...what was the "model 101" designation?

Still a GREAT film. Possibly the greatest B-movie ever made. To me, this was the storytelling achievement Star Wars wanted to be... followed by the near perfect sequel. It only cost Cameron 6 million dollars to make. Star Wars cost 40 million. That means the continual success of The Terminator is mostly due to James Cameron's skills as a storyteller... unlike George Lucas (The Attack of the Clones).

Story-wise I wish they would have shown the Terminator kill more than one Sarah Connor before getting to Linda Hamilton's character. One instance is hardly enough for establishing the "phonebook killer" pattern.

Good stuff. While DF seems to revolve around Connor, T1 and T2 from memory was predominantly about Arnie. Sarah Connor was probably fleshed out and evolved more through the Sarah Connor Chronicles of the late 90's. Due to all the Woke nonsense and with Terminator Genysis especially we seem to see some revisionist nonsense come in and we are now focusing excessively on Sarah Connor and Linda Hamilton. In Terminator we see it is a case of Connor and Reese being a team, and spend quite a bit of time in Reeses mind. Eg there's one point where after the Terminator and smashed up the Police station and the terror from Sarah Connors POV, we see the equivalent terror as experienced by Reese in the future when we see his Base destroyed

My biggest nitpick is that The Terminator, a literal killing machine, blinks every single time it fires a weapon. You would think that would be a design flaw it wouldn’t have (why would it need to blink?) I know it’s a nitpick but every time I see Arnold blinking when firing it takes me out of it. It breaks the illusion.

A Terminator is programmed to behave like a human. It shouldn't even miss a shot given its mathematical capabilities, but it does a lot of that to..

I watched this recently, I'm a huge terminator fan, the story, script and acting is brilliant even the cinematography is great but.... Don't hate on me for saying, the visual effects do not stand the test of time. The stop motion T800 looks awful and the rubber mask when arnies fixing his eye looks like something you can buy from a joke shop for £30. All of which look great in the 80's/90's and gave me nightmares when I was a kid.

I think this is one of the few cases in which the sequel (T2) was better than the first one, off course assuming all the shit that came after doesn't exist. btw, how is the new film going to fit in the universe? (all that shit with bale, clarke, danes, etc)
