@Bastiaan Most of the projects are probably carbon negative. Most projects would be transformative, ie you're taking a sunk cost and manipulating it, so little 'carbon cost' inherent in the project. So take an example of Louis XIV furniture. The genuine items have captured carbon since the end of the 17th century. Compare that to modern furniture that falls apart after a couple of years and ends up in landfill. A lot of making is also about reuse, recyle and repurposing objects or materials that may otherwise end up in landfills as well. So makers and craftsmen should be able to claim carbon credits, like Tesla. Some of the rest gets more complicated. So there are carbon costs in tracking carbon waste, as well as economic costs. That may exceed any benefit. This is a general flaw with a lot of recyling in that a lot of energy gets used to recyle objects into stuff that has no, or very little economic value. You can also have fun with comparing efficiency. So it may take a few kW of electricity to use a power tool. It may take more energy to do something by hand, considering the average person exhales around 250kg carbon a year. Obviously more if they're doing hard work. Then there's overheads like shop heating/lighting, which you'll use more of, if the work takes longer doing it by hand. It's a fun subject if you dig into it about where the costs and efficiencies really lie. Producers promote recyling because that offsets their obligations and passes them onto consumers. Producing less waste in the first place would benefit everyone, but cost the producers more.

The scene in T2 where he rips his arm skin off is what made me fall in love with robotics as a kid. The hand just looked so high tech and cool! I now have a degree in electronics and another in electro-mechanical systems, 20 years in the Army as a radio tech, and work at Fermilab fixing and installing hardware on particle accelerators. Because of this robot hand. Oh, and I learned how to CAD model and build 3d printers specifically so I could make one of these using lost PLA casting. I haven't finished it yet, but I will someday. I am literally who I am today because of that scene in the movie you mentioned. Or at least I can confidently say it had a significant influence.

T1 did it for me - the scene where he cuts out his eye and fixes his arm - then the whole part where he comes out of the burning pile of steel to chase john and sarah. My brother in law works at Argonne National laboratory....sucks I live in Lake County - would be so awesome to work there.

Forgivable due to all the pieces and moving parts, but it appears that, following some sort of cleaning or restoration, the thumb has been attached backward. At 4:25, you can see that the curved sides of the joints are designed to bend inwards, opposite the knuckles, instead of outwards as they're positioned here. There's also a piston (actually a sleeved cable) dangling loose by the 'web', and it will probably find a place to connect once the thumb has been turned around.

It looks as though you can rotate the joint at the bottom of the thumb that goes into the 'palm'. I'd say this just needs rotated to the proper position.
@NBSV12 жыл бұрын
In some shots it looks to be the right way then others is turned. I think it’s able to rotate so was flopping around and ending up whichever way. Maybe the cable is what would have kept it in position better. But, they’re an auction house and not a restoration shop. Even Adam isn’t likely to get involved with trying to fix stuff in this setting. If whoever buys it wants to fix it up that’s up to them.

I made wire manipulated articulated fingers on the hands of an 8 foot tall "Cheron" the ferryman of the river Styx costume. My mechanism is much lower tech than that. But has all the functionality. With my fingers in the rings of the control boxes the fingers of "The Big Guy" move as my fingers move. It's pretty creepy having that monster coming at you with the big boney clawed fingers moving like that.

A real inaccuracy of the movie terminator is to imagine robotics of the future being in the present. The endo skeletons in Terminator are simply cumbersome. Their articulations and the artistry should be highly advanced like 3D printed complex shapes and such.
