Wow, that's actually kinda crazy... I just find it funny that this mystery has been a thing since the game's release and that no one has a solid answer as to the source of the original pictures. The only one I'm 90% sure on is the far right is Jeremy Irons from the French Lieutenant's Woman (1981)... and 10% that it's Billy Campbell as Quincey Morris from Dracula (1992). But thank you for looking into it. The video is amazing btw.

The source on TCRF about the text is at least partially accurate, the doll singing got SUPER out of sync on my game after a few singing loops because I kept messing up. And the talking squirrel is referring to the animals on that tile south of Liotto from my understanding. *EDIT:* I have a few theories about the talking “rats” is that the area was originally accessible before resurrecting humanity as the sub area is close to the start of the game, or the sub-area was moved from an accessible place to its current position and the developers forgot to remove the text or change it somehow.

It was an amazing work. Terranigma had potential to create so many things, but it needed more attention. Even if the interest is still small, it was a great experience. I know the chances of getting a remake are slim, but it'd benefit a lot, by ironing out some plot points.

The reason the german comic for Terranigma happened is pretty simple. Terranigma was one of the biggest RPG releases in german, since a lot of the other big ones never made it. It is just about as beloved and well known here, as FF6 was is the US. It even came in a large box bundled with the official strategy guide. There are only a few of these "big box" SNES games. Also i just realized that this is a tiny youtube channel. What a great video. I expected this to be a long running series but it seems to be only a one-off, which is sad. Great work.

It's actually possible to get 102 Magirocks (103 JP) if you stand between the two mermaids as you leave their tower, and speak to both of them to get two Water Pins. And for those who aren't aware, the Silver Pike is the best weapon to use against Bloody Mary. It is Light-elemental but much stronger than the Light Rod. While Mary isn't actually weak to Light, she has 75% resistance to Fire, Ice and Thunder so in effect she takes more damage from Light, Earth and non-elemental weapons.

Great job for listing everything from Terranigma that were obscure and inaccessible. I've just played Terranigma in my vacation and I fell in love with it. With all the cutscenes I've seen in the game, I found it oddly funny that Lightside Elle took care of baby Ark right after the nonsense she've dealt in her recent life... Basically becoming a step-up mom (alludes to her darkside counterpart dealing with Ark's antics). And all of a sudden... The baby she named prior to her significant one, was kidnapped by her lookalike, then, a talking flying creature -- that she may have seen along with Ark before -- orders the twin kidnapper to unalive the baby that she's caring for a sufficient amount time! And the scene unfolds in a mishmash of emotions... Gurl, she really needs a break after all of it. (Thank goodness, it does happen at some point. However, in the "It's actually Ark" interpretation of the ending, I headcanonically thought over Darkside Ark saying hello to Lightside Elle and enters her house just to live with her.)

As for Terranigma 2 the Continuance - I have the game and it appears to be finished although Im not a 100% sure since I havent beaten it yet. It is of a very high quality. It feels like a proper sequel to the game. The graphics, the atmosphere, the attention to detail, the style, the story. It all fits together nicely and it feels like Terranigma. It even improved on the gameplay a bit like the magic system or leveling up your fighting skills. I can really only recommend this.

Great video. :) There were some interesting things in it that I wasn't aware of. My brother got this game when it released and it has been one of my favourite games ever since. Fun notes about Mu: 1. It is also referencing a real world mythical lost continent of Lemuria. 2. I knew about Mu as a kid (found it randomly walking around the world) and found it weird that a guide (can't remember which one, possibly one in a game magazine over here) missed it completely. :P Other thoughts: 37:51 "Ark and Yomi getting scared off by a Yeti" or is it them being thrown by the Yeti like in the game? 39:36 I question if that is even Ark given in that picture he has a sword and scabbard not a spear. EDIT: Subscribed :P
@rinomander2 жыл бұрын
OHHHH omg after having played Golden Sun, Mu makes more sense now. I had no idea it was a real thing before I played that game haha. Still making new connections about this game! 37:51 ahhh it probably is, I guess I took it at first glance and figured it was another small change that supplemental material tends to make. 39:36 oooh this was a thing I missed actually. in some of Fujiwara's concept art (and even in some finished art like this one: playingwithsuperpower.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Terranigma-2.png), Ark has a sword! Although the sword in said art looks totally different than the one in that video clip... I think it's hard to tell if it even is a sword. Looks more like a stick haha. Strange though. I don't think it could be anyone else since they have spiky hair, the baggy pants, and they have no huge pauldrons. And thank you very much!! I'm real happy to see that so many people are coming into this video and reminiscing on their experience with the game ❤
@doublemonkey48332 жыл бұрын
@@rinomander Oh is Lemuria/Mu mentioned in Golden Sun too? I've never really played Golden Sun and haven't yet watched your video on it. XD Well a lot happens in the game so it's easy to overlook some moments. :P Oh I see, I didn't know some of his art has Ark with a sword (though that pic does look familiar, maybe i just forgot, it has been a while since I looked up Terranigma art). I agree his silhouette does look like Ark, and at first I thought maybe he was holding a stick or a short spear but then I noticed the scabbard on his hip, and samurai are often depicted with baggy trousers, so it's just a confusing picture all around. XD A nice picture though. Maybe an early design of Ark had him looking more samurai than his final design? :P The effort you put into this video and the quality of the presentation (I particularly liked the various background art) deserves a lot more views. :) 20 years ago I used to think that a remake of Terranigma would be fantastic, these days I think "no....it's perfect as it is." If the game was remade i'd be very concerned that it would get messed up in some way, especially since it wouldn't be Enix making it now, and it would likely be new devs who wouldn't treat it with the care and respect it deserves (I am still very torn about Trials of Mana vs Seiken Densetsu 3). Though at least game remakes overall are generally better than film remakes lately. :P

Even if it might not be that interesting to you guys, but you can see it in 34:30. For some weird reason, the Club Nintendo (the game magazine) editors where in charge of translating some of the Nintendo games of that era. (Sometimes the guys from the telephone helplines did it, that's where the Final Fantasy Adventure translation came from) This has lead to very iconic translations like in Secret of Mana or... in this case... Terranigma. The catchphrase of the old Club Nintendo "Holerö".... isn't a German word at all, its just used as a sound you would make when you would say "Yay", "Yahoo" or "Yipee". But due to it being so weird, it's actually closely tied to Terranigma and Secret of Mana these days. I have to smile every time when I encounter it, reminding me of so much easier times. Sadly, Secret of Mana had been re-translated into German for the Wii Virtual Console, removing all of the old Club Nintendo translation quirks from every re-release to this day. So no Holerö in any Secret of Mana version since 2007. But since Terranigma didn't get rereleased, the Holerö is still in there, even in the improved (rom) version where they fixed the text and patched the quiz back in.... and replaced them with Quintett questions.

30:30 That to me is all the confirmation on my own theory on Terranigma's ending I ever needed.

Great to see that a new generation of gamers found this fantastic game and enjoy it as much as their dads, or older brothers today.

Oh wow I didn't put together the unfortunate coincidence between the Asmodeus and Sarin Gas Attacks. That's really dark.

I always thought the Angel tribe was a deliberate juxtaposition of the mountain people from Soulblazer. They live forever but experience no fulfillment and also dwell underground.

Loved this. I discovered this game when it was originally out back in the 90s and it absolutely changed me. Thankyou for this video! Re: the sewer door in Dragoon Castle - you showed a map of the whole area around the bridge. Isn't there's a door down on the bottom left? Is that what people are referring to?
@rinomander3 жыл бұрын
The bottom left? That's how you get into that area to grab the magirock on the one island, then you go into the upper left door to proceed. It was called a door on the actual iceberg but it really was referring to the map I showed I think. I know Holy knows the wiki the map is found on edit omg oops. Feel like an asshole for not even addressing you enjoying the video LOL thank you 😭 I actually played it for the first time last year and maybe not as much as it would have if I had nostalgia for it, but it's had quite an impact! Still has a scattered fanbase too, it's really special

Oh hey!! I have a copy of the World Atlas. It is truly not that exciting, it is just a guidebook for the game. Lots of pictures of sprites, enemy lists, and info on each area. The only art that isnt from the game in there is what you've already shown, there's a little piece of art at the start of each of the four chapters. 1- the picture of the world, 2- a photo pastiche of an eagle in the sky with some dandelion seeds, 3-a photo pastiche with a hand holding a sword and a hand holding a club, 4- the light and darkside arks.

Seriously a great day to be a Terranigma fan!! Consider a "Terranigma plot explained" video?
@rinomander2 жыл бұрын
I don't know when I'll ever get around to it, but I actually thought about doing a giant video on the whole Quintet saga! The games that are kinda sorta related anyway- Actraiser 1 & 2, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Robotrek, Terranigma, and The Granstream Saga. We'll see what happens ;)
@seanh48762 жыл бұрын
@@rinomander that would be so cool! -also a MASSIVE undertaking. So totally understandable why it may not happen lol! Regardless, I'll be showing my wife this video after she beats Terranigma!

Hey about the "terranigma atlas" I've heard that in Japan there often produce strategieguides paired with novels for games. Maybe the atlas is a shorten version of the atlas without story telling. You know?
