I lived across the street from him when we were 12 and 13 years old. God was he funny! His mom was one of the most awesome mom's. She would take Shane and all his friends on canoeing trips and to several San Jose Earthquakes soccer games. She was the perfect mom for someone like Shane. She never tried to hold him back, she always encouraged him and she did that with us (his friends) too. I appreciated his mom so much.

I just researched his Mom Glenn...Glenn Chamberlain McConkey passed away July 27 2022. All I can say is, thank you Glenn, you left an impression on me. I think you knew I was living with an abusive step mother. You were alway's so kind and encouraging to me. You were the step mother I wish I had!!!!

Sometimes when people do daring stuff they die. Is it worth it? Not for me but I have a life worth living.

Everybody dies, no matter how careful. No one gets out alive. It's the price paid for a peek at reality!

Shane was shooting a movie though, he was shooting with Matchstick Productions, for their latest ski movie. There is/was footage of his untimely demise.

Well done vid, and still only scratching the surface of everything shane gave to those around him. his memory lives on every single day in more ways than one. "just ski down there and jump off something for crying out loud" - Shane

pursuing a way of life that almost guarantees an early death does not seem wise, responsible or loving, to himself, his wife, his daughter, and family.

Shane was a legend; quite extraordinary. Regrettably, he used a rube goldberg, very questionable setup that had inherent flaws, he had to use some ancient binders since the uncoupling or release of the binding during the descent demanded the heel piece eject in a specific action; now he's using 40yr old mechanical heels that are rickety and incredibly imprecise with inferior materials and spring interfaces so a cam locking up or friction buildup; all manner of unpredictable sequence in a ancient binder could occur. I mean, on a powder day we all would drill our boots on the boards and devil may care attitude would wash over us, but its not a descent with fatal outcomes imminent. McConkey had used the setup dozens of times but the failure rate was too high and too unpredictable; and the next jump was a coin toss, not the kind of odds you would like to see with your life on the line.

Very nice tribute but the McConkey is a front flip over your unpacked parachute off the exit also known as a roll over. Not the ski removal mid air as you stated. He invented the McConkey trick long before the ski removal stunts.

Same as many things in life race car drivers that put their life one the line every day they are on that track from human error or some eles and this man had a technical issue that can happen also race car drivers can also live life to the fullest only live once or don't take a chance at all in life and live in fear
