The epitaph that Durandal wrote for Tycho, is "Fatum Iustum Stultorum", which translates roughly to "The just fate of all fools". Because Durandal is petty like that, and we love him for it

Fun fact: The Mural at 8:02 is thought to actually not be a S'pht, but rather our only glimpse at a Jjaro. The Jjaro made the S'pht in their image. I guess it could still be depicting a S'pht, but theres too many differences for me to think it is. Its robe is much larger, it has a light/eye on its head, while all S'pht heads are featureless, its machinery is much more elaborate and exposed compared to the small light the S'pht have in their chest. Also, Durandal calling the Pfhor religion "pathetically boring" reminded me of the Floods thoughts on the Great Journey, "lies for the weak, beacons for the deluded."

Amazing synopsis, my friend. This is easily one of my favorite games of all time…maybe I’m a bit biased though. My cousin Alexander was bungie’s cofounder, so he gave us all of the earlier bungie games like pathways, myth, and marathon. To me, they’re absolutely timeless games. Keep up the great content man!

Alexander Seropian is your cousin? I met him once at a Bungie event after a Macworld convention when I wasn't even a teenager yet. I always wondered how he got on after he left Bungie, I know he founded another company but considering the kind of stature he probably should have in the gaming world it's a little strange that he doesn't really have a presence. Marathon and Myth were the definitive games of my youth. The commitment to not just telling great stories, but absolutely timeless stories is really what set them apart from what everyone else was doing at the time. Feel's a shame what he started has become what it's turned into but as people leave and time moves on so does the culture of a company.

I do agree, it is pretty impressive that he’s been able to stay out of the spotlight all these years later; however, I’m extremely happy for him that he gets to live a pretty normal life, given all that he’s done for the gaming community. He went on to lesser known companies that were great, but just never gained the traction and/or notoriety that bungie did. He’s doing great though, it appears like he even has a little podcast going on now. I speak with him on Instagram once or twice a month maybe. I live in North Carolina, so he lives pretty far away from all of us

@@estefencosta1835yeah it was interesting, I was really young - like 7 or so. But I remember whenever he left bungie…it was around the infancy stages of halo 2’s production. Sometimes I wonder what it would have been like for him to have stayed, but, he definitely has zero regrets in regards to leaving. Personally, my immediate family believes he enjoys the anonymity, all while being financially secure and overall just enjoying his life with his family. Unfortunately, I don’t get to see him as much these days since I live all the way in North Carolina, but on some holidays occasionally I get to see him. If you met him in person, you’d think he’s just some normal guy. Great man

I would say Marathon 1 looks like you would imagine a run down colony ship in an asteroid would look like. The pfhor stuff in 1 is actually kind of biologically active in ways. Biomechanics is a big part of the Pfhor and cybernetic life forms are throughout the story. So the biomechanical stuff in the trailer certainly sticks. And the cyborg armour they showed also looks good imo.

I can never understand why there even have an AI for doors. Also the whole concept of AI rampancy itself only make sense if the AI actually adapt and advance to the extent they actually are allowed to think that far. The concept of rampancy also reflects on humans a lot, especially when a human's conception of the world is broken down with an incident that actually causes the human mind to rethink the principles it uses to understand it's common reality.

This franchise's scaling and in universe realism and time is so strange narratively. It's hard to pin down the power and capabilities of these civilizations and powers compared to Halo or Stellaris. It's extremely vague on the organization structure and worldbuilding. It would seem like the Pfhor would really be falling behind in ground and space combat when it comes to level of advancement and numbers and they all die out in a single failed campaign which makes you wonder how they were even able operate and reign as long as they did if they were this incapable. And then all of a sudden they a super weapon that can destroy a star cluster? What? That doesn't seem to add up relatively. The parameters and conditions and developments of this franchise's in game universe seem very strangely unreal to me. And this W'rkncacnter is apparently a creation level threat but it can't escape the pull of a star but can tank the destructive capacity and attack potency of a star cluster tier destroying super weapon? This series's rules and defined limitations are extremely weird and out of wrack. Atleast with Halo we understand the limits, capabilities, and powers of the factions and entities could possess in specific conditions of set right even when it comes to the Forerunners and Flood. But Merathon's setting is very strange and doesn't seem to have consistent parameters and limitations set to it's factions that are strictly and hard defined. It's ingame universe and set up seems flatly and incoherently established to me in those territories of writing a interesting world built on a set stable foundation and rules.

I got into marathon over covid in which I got heavily in grossed in its lore. Really happy other people are getting on board now. Though I'm saddened by the art and gameplay direction the new installment is going in. The one problem I have with the old lore is that Halo did a certain aspect better. I already know what it's like to be human, I want to see the story from the other perspective. Im Halo we got the Arbiter, in Marathon we just don't get to see what drives the Pfhor forward, what their struggles and beliefs are. We just get "They're religious zealots and slavers, now kill them all.".

I'm glad you enjoyed the terminals in Marathon 2 HiddenXperia. I absolutley love the writing in marathon 2, durandal is such a character XD If you enjoyed this theres a custom game/add on called "Marathon: Rubicon" that I highly recommend. If you want a Marathon Lore dump that expands on marathon infinity with tie ins to halo and previous bungie title pathways into darkness, then I recommend Marathon: Eternal. Edit: "Mindfuck" is exactly what I said outloud after I finally beat Marathon Infinity. Me: "well....that was a mindfuck"

Not exactly a problem, since the Aleph One remakes of the trilogy and Pathways into Darkness are nice freeware. Look them up, and feel awe. Can't say the same for Myth I+II and Oni though. Now those deserve the Steam/GOG treatment.

I havent been so excited for a new HiddenX vid in a while since Halo Infinite has been so cold. Until the trailer and video he made on Marathon i didnt even know a game like this existed before my time so im super pumped for what it could be like.
