I have HW3 and the free FSD a month till almost the end of next month is almost perfect just need a few tweaks. I can go to the park 5 miles away with my dog every day without problems except I cant turn off freeway on the route.

I’m not sure why people keep asking for a $25k consumer model. For buyers in this segment, it would actually be cheaper to hail a robotaxi for every trip rather than owning the vehicle outright. It’s a win-win: consumers get a more affordable option with the same, if not better utility, and Tesla can generate recurring revenue through its fleet of robotaxis (which Wall Street loves). Plus, when the robotaxis aren’t driving people and are sitting idle at night charging on cheap electricity, their powerful chips contribute to distributed computing. Their robotaxis will be making money 24/7!

Whats your math on that? If I can run a £25k car into the ground in 10 years (i would expect more) there is no way it would be cheaper to robotaxi everywhere every single day even if I add running costs, insuance and charging.

Uber has 1.7M drivers in the US (and they don't all work 12+ hours a day like the robotaxi will). Even if Tesla reaches 900,00 units/yr (same as Ford F-Series) this will quickly decimate any other rideshare program. Tesla's parallel manufacturing + robotaxi economics are going to drastically change US transportation by 2030

Tesla said it will cost them $0.30/mile to operate the robotaxi. If they get a 30% margin on each mile, that brings a robotaxi ride to $0.46/mile. It will vary for everyone, but consider the cost to own, operate, insure, garage, and repair. You'll find owning a $25k car will come above that $0.46/mile. The average US costs are $0.70/mile. And ubers cost $1-2/mile.

I read Elon's comment of free HW3 upgrades as only for users who pay for FSD up front, not for users who just want to subscribe monthly. On the one hand, that's frustrating because as a shareholder I want as many monthly subscribers as possible to increase MRR, while there's still too much focus on trying to get people to prepay for FSD, which is cost prohibitive and unattractive for lease customers compared to the monthly subscription. Hopefully they will at least offer the HW3 upgrade to a monthly subscriber who's willing to commit to a 12 month subscription or something comparable.

I purchased my Model 3 a few months after it was released. Fall/Winter of 2018. I love it and I always felt my future cars will all be Tesla cars. I’m now looking at Rivian as an alternative. Not mainly because of Elon’s political views but mostly because of all the nonsense. Between “goth MAGA”, the fake freedom of speech nonsense etc I’m just not really sure if I want to contribute my money to help make him richer. It’s sad because he’s a smart and visionary guy. He should focus on his business.

We spend billions on driving aids for humans (signs, lights, lines, rumble strips, etc.). Seems we should do the same for AI machine drivers ... DOT and state DOTs need to work this ... remember the AI machines can automatically provide feedback to the DOTs where they get confused ... this would create a feedback loop to accelerate the adoption of robo taxies and other such vehicles.
