The artwork is the original UK cinema poster and the first VHS release. I suppose more recognisable in the UK.

Yeah the book looks cool. It's the best thing going for it compared to the Dark Skies version. If they sold the book separately, I'd consider it.

Thank you so much for the comparison video! My Second Sight 4k LE of "Texas" should come to me in the mail very soon. This will make a great companion piece to my "Martin" and "Dawn of the Dead" - and I'm glad I still went with second sight -they deliver. I may even double dip and get the "Dark Sky" steelbook in the near future that looks to be also a great release.

Hey Ken, The red and white packaging is how the movie was released in Europe on VHS so it’s a throwback which is something I’m sure you would appreciate. what do you need to do when you can a full-blown Atmos system I know the sound bars are impressive no question but there really isn’t a comparison.

Thanks ... I think.😁 I own the Dark Sky 4K steelbook and I don't care about Second Sight's packaging or the book. The question for me is whether to double dip on Second Sight's standard edition 4K release. I was on the fence ... and I'm still there. 🤔 I'll probably need to see one of the reviews with comparable screen grabs before I (hopefully) make a final decision.

There’s reviews already out there comparing the two and unanimously it’s saying that the extra restoration work from a second sight is an improvement on the dark skies release.

I don't think there's enough difference to warrant the double dip. I absolutely do not trust fanboys to be unbiased, and SS seems to have a lot of them in our niche community. I'm mildly interested in seeing video differences, but not screenshot comparisons. If you have to pause it to tell the difference, then how big is the difference really? But if you decide to double dip, it's your money and your choice.

@@johnpublic7796 can you blame SS for having fans when they continually put out editions of movies which are the best in class? I often don’t bother with booklets etc, but the book which comes with their limited edition for TCM could be sold on its own it’s that good.

@@benpascall4297 The Blu-Rays are region B locked. The cover art is subjective. I prefer the classic poster. The special features are almost identical. The difference between the videos is marginal. The main reason to get the limited edition over the Dark Sky version is for the book, or if you prefer that packaging. I think the Dark Sky version is the better value if you're American, particularly if you don't have a region-free player. I can take my set to my friends'/family's houses and play the Blu-rays (not the 4Ks, granted, except those who have a PS5 because nobody else I know IRL has a 4K player). My point is it's not a cut and dry easy "SS is the definitive version." For Europeans, I'd imagine so. For mega fans of TCM, they'd probably want both. Show me compelling video evidence that the SS version makes the Dark Sky version look like dog shit and my opinion would probably change. I've only seen screenshots and I'm not convinced from those that there's enough difference for a double dip or even to pick the SS version without taking other things already mentioned into consideration.

@@johnpublic7796 all the extras are on the 4k, so the Blu rays are irrelevant unless you don’t have a 4k player, you’re not missing out on anything. On a side note, I’d recommend anyone to go region free with their player. I did this and being based in the UK have been able to benefit from importing Vinegar Syndrome and Shout Factory titles. Also, nobody said that they’re night and day against each other… but the comparisons are all indicating that the SS restoration has added incremental improvements to the PQ. So whilst I wouldn’t recommend double dipping and having the book (which is great) is a personal choice, based on pq alone I’d go SS.

I just bought the second sight individual 4k disk instead of the box set. I Can't play the blurays anyways and Just not a fan of the red color of all the pictures in the book and postcards. In my opinion the images in the book should have been full color. Postcards are fine in red tint. I also have the darkskies 4k slip version.

I ordered both, but after I got the Dark Sky version I decided I only need 1 of them. I'm really trying to cut back on the double dipping so I returned the Dark Sky version. Just got the Second Sight edition yesterday.

I went with the Dark Skies steelbook bc it looks better than the SS, the Blu special disc actually works in the US, and bc I think most of the SS fanboys are biased on video quality. The Blus with the SS are region B locked. The standard edition SS has no Blus. Dark Skies was the better value for me for sure. Unless you watch movies on two different screens simultaneously, most probably won't tell much difference in either release. The SS cover looks alright, but I didn't grow up with the British VHS. The little hardback book does look awesome. I'd like to read that, but I'll have to live without it. I'm happy for anyone who enjoys the SS version.

Yeah its a pass for me, i love the dark sky release already they did it right and like the cover art better than the second sight one. If you could only have the packaging of second sight with the dark sky artwork it would have been a double dip but I can’t get behind the second sight artwork

The Dark Sky release is an inferior release and also has audio issues at 2 points which has been rectified by the Second Sight release. The HDR on the Dark Sky is exactly the same as the German one and has got a yellow teal to it.

The artwork is the original pre-cert VHS artwork from the early 80s before it was banned. The artwork is nostalgia porn for video nasty collectors such as myself.

Gonna have to disagree with you in regard to being very small differences in picture quality. The SS is noticeably better. The Dark Sky and Turbine 4k’s both look blown out espies in daylight scenes. Better color timing as well as clarity. Most notably with details in clothing and objects in the distance, etc.

TCM discs will never look as great as the shitty scratched up 35mm blow-up prints I would see at the theaters right before it was released on VHS. IMO its the best way to see it. Second Sights edition looks cool with that book.
