I’ve always wondered what the difference between valves was. Now I know. Thanks for finally explaining it in a way I can understand. One of the things that drew me to the trombone with the simple design. I don’t really want valves on my trombone, other than a spit valve! 😜

This is very nice, thank you. I’m currently renting an ancient Thayer bass from my school. I’m planning to buy my own sometime in the next few years.

Great video and info. I am pretty good at sharpenning mower blades so I believe I could take care of YOUR valve problem.

Aiden, great video! Have you had any experience with the Hagmann bass trombone valves? What about the Greenhoe rotors

Great video Aiden. As an engineer this is the exact reason I've never bought a horn with thayers even though the best horn I've ever played was a shires with dual thayers and a dual bore slide. I'm currently playing a 1983 50B2 belonging to a band though I plan on making them an offer for it and having a set of Olsen valves installed though not decided on standard or infinity version. What are your thoughts?

That's a great plan! Bachs really light up with new valves.

@@AidanRitchie Your opinion on standard vs infinity?

@@greennigel6398 Totally up to you. Oddly enough, I may have Bach bass trombones with both valves(!) very soon, and I can give you a definitive answer!

Hello Aiden Question.......i heard you mention some of the new infinity axial valves play well and some don't can you elaborate some on this from you experience etc.......... Also I've notice the original Thayer valves are really very open ( I can only assume that's the intention) compared to the new infinity axial valves. Is it possible the new infinity axial valve is mis aligned? Thank you Ps.any suggestions recommendation if needed for a tech to take a look
@AidanRitchie3 жыл бұрын
the new Olsen (Infinity) valves can be very open as well, but they are often not built right at Bach. I've played some built by my tech that are AMAZING, as well as others that were randomly built correctly by Bach.

@@AidanRitchie GM thanks for responding. Well I purchased the infinity valve from the Mike Olsen himself. On that note do you mind send me your techs.number etc.......and I can have him take a look at my horn?

Anybody know where you can obtain replacement Thayer valves/parts?

Milashius has new valves and some other parts, I think milashius.com/bass.php?v_submenu=axiel

My Thayers are totally stuck on the spindle end, they pop up a tiny bit (enough to clean under there) but I can't take them off fully

The stop arms?
@SilverAg113 жыл бұрын
@@AidanRitchie Yeah, they are pretty much stuck even if I remove that screw
@AidanRitchie3 жыл бұрын
@@SilverAg11 they can be like that. A tech will be able to get them off, but don't do anything drastic!
@SilverAg113 жыл бұрын
@@AidanRitchie yeah I don’t really need to take them off anyway, there’s enough room that I can stick some paper under there to clean them
@AidanRitchie3 жыл бұрын
@@SilverAg11 that's how I cleaned my bass Thayer set. Just sucks though, you still can't get everything.

Hello, Jose! I wish I could, I do not speak Spanish and it would be very difficult for me to translate the more technical words. Perhaps I can ask a Spanish-speaking friend to help!
