One of my favorite sci fi horror films of all time! I distinctly remember catching a glimpse of this film when I was about 6 or 7 years old in the mid 1980s. It both frightened the hell out of me and captivated me at the same time. I’ve watched this movie more times than I can count now and it never gets old for me.

The blinking dead Norwegian made it into the TV version. I remember that, watching it back in the mid to late eighties (repeatedly watched my VHS recording). It was an obvious blooper if you were looking at the body on the table instead of Garry. It's during the bit where the narrator is introducing the characters.

Too bad more of the script wasn't included in the film, or at least include the parts that were filmed but edited out. Even if the movie ran 3 hours, I'd watch it.

Us hard core fans would watch a 10 hour cut
@malachimatcho7583Ай бұрын
@Sammy_Boy_Smith I don't know man, 10 hours seems like a long cut, just sayin. I think 7 hours is more realistic. 3 1/2 hours at the Norwegian base, then the dog escapes and 3 1/2 hours on the American base.

In the television version with the added scene of the dead Norwegian, you can very clearly see the actor blink

Less cinemas around in those days with only 3 screens.

@@TheCleanasyougoI don’t know if the statistics back that up. There were plenty of movies that didn’t flop, including E.T. which I think was more of a factor in The Thing not doing so well. People were in the mood for cute aliens not scary, bloody ones

@@literallyunderrated I saw it on Channel 4 two years later , I taped it not knowing ANYTHING about it , and boy was I blown away by it. I was probably 10 years old at the time. Thanks for sharing this video it's a shame that more scenes were cut from the original film, maybe that's why the 1982 is the Usa outpost & the 2011 is the Norwegian Outpost I think that they should of put them all together as 1 film The Thing part 1 the Norwegian Outpost & The Thing part 2 the USA outpost on dvd or Blu-ray X2 discs in 1 case then the film would be complete & it would make more sense & be the right way around & in order, for my i'd have to watch the 2011 version first & then watch the 1982 version i also think John Carpenter should of made in his unique style the Norwegian Outpost in 1982 then the film is complete that would be awesome that wolf dog was creepy staring at the actors like that, why wasn't that dog as from the Norwegian Outpost why wasn't that dog in the 2011 version of The Thing it would of made more sense seeing the creepy dog in the USA outpost you see it jump out & run, in the 2011 version the Norwegians only have 1 dog which is odd because that sled dog couldn't pull a sled on its own it would be to heavy to pull someone if there injured they should of had 8 sled dogs like in the USA outpost now 8 dogs could pull a sled the weight would be evenly distributed between all of the dogs equally I did notice that when they brought the Thing back to the outpost in the ice the dog knew it wanted out it was biting at the metal wire cos it knew it was a threat a danger i'd like to know where the dog went away from the 👽 it must of hid from it i noticed the Norwegians never brought the dog inside from the freezing cold temperatures why was it's kennel outside the dog would freeze to death outside like that it didn't make any sense at all I get it was a pet but leaving it outside in the freezing cold, Is cruel why was the dog kennel not in the main outpost building? its weird.

Where can you obtain movie scripts?
@HowlinMadBobАй бұрын
The script is not king mr. guy making this Video! I've acted in several movies as lead characters and not only does the entire script usually make it to the final cut, but other sequences and whole other scene can be added as the movie is shot. The Movie Script is not gospel. Depending on the director, if he was the one who wrote it, and many other factors bears on if the final cut reflects what was initally written. And one isn't more true than the other...If fact my opinion is that what is catpured on screen in the final cut is what is important.
@allsortofmoviesАй бұрын
The script is the author's original vision of the story. How the story is realized in the film is different story. The film is affected by many factors that do not affect the script, just as they do not affect literature. The film is influenced by, for example, visual views, budget, actors and business factors. The traditional thing that affects the business factors of a script is the determination of the number of pages in the script, because the number of pages is used to determine the length of the film, and in turn, the length of the film controls the ideal running time of the film, which in turn has a direct relation to the success of the film in distribution. It's true that when it comes to film, the script is often not king. However, the script is the soul of the film in the form of a story and I think that should be respected. The film is ultimately the director's interpretation of the script. There are clearly significant differences in whether the screenwriter is the same person as the director. For example, in the film Alien (1979), Ridley Scott interpreted the script relatively broadly, added his own scenes and made major changes. The sequel, Aliens (1986), was written and directed by James Cameron, and the film followed the script very closely. Which is better? ..I can't say, depends on the movie and the script. I don't think there is a 100% correct answer to this, everyone feels differently about it. Many like the movie more, others, for example, like the book based on the script of the movie more. For me, if the film and its story are fascinating, I'm thirsty for more material of it.

The blood spot on the dog left in the movie, the Norwegian shooter dead, but eye blinks,. and dude operating on the Alien-Dog in the background, But the dog was never shot in the movie ( only in the deleted scene). So .... This editer didn't do his job very well btw. I know that 45 years of fans going over frame by frame will find errors in every damn movie, but still ...
