So my brother and I played the original back in 2002 on the PS2 and it was a favorite of ours because of how faithful it stayed to the movie’s look and feel. I played the 2024 remastered version the day it came out and finished it rather quick. While it looks way better graphically I was hoping for some more in depth infection system with your teammates. For instance if a teammate is left out of your view for a certain period of time their chance of infection goes up, and if they get infected then they will try to infect other teammates if left out of view. It encourages the player to not let his teammates out of his sight. I wasn’t expecting a brand new game but when I heard NightDive talking about a revamped infection system before the game came out I was super curious to see how that would function. But I wasn’t seeing any change at all on my run through jt. Still fun to play again this many years later.

The infection system would never have been as cool as we wanted it to be. The game is short and the levels are straight forward, no need for complexity in systems when the level is done in 10 minutes.

@ even though it’s difficult to carry over teammates across levels when they are with you you have to manage them, give them weapons, ammo, medkits, adrenaline, keep them away from gore, blood test them. Even if it’s short lived team management is a game mechanic, and with the paranoia that comes along with the setting of The Thing as to who is real or who isn’t you should always be on edge as to who you can trust. That’s the whole plot of the movie. The Thing’s paranoia inspired movies such as the Hateful Eight, to more silly settings like the game Among Us. The Movie is about fighting aliens, a virus, but it is mostly about deciding who to trust during a crisis, placing blame on those who may have no malicious intent. Your team members may not be around for long, but their trust should always be on the line

Finally got around try The Thing Remastered and I got to say this might be my favourite game from nightdive aside Quake 2 and Killing Time. Although I did encounter a few bugs where my character’s head, legs, and his bag pack disappeared and I saw a T-Pose arctic marine in the tunnel part. But that being said best remaster in my opinion.

Remaster Dead Space 1 next please. (Remake sucks. I want an actual faithful re-release. Not necessarily 1:1, but an enhanced version of the actual original game. Remake utterly lacked discipline, making an questionably high number of creative liberties as well as regressive design polish, and removed so much attentions to details it's not even funny.)
