Homemaking is noble and important. And you're right about being prepared...absolutely everything breaks down if you're unprepared! It took me a long time to learn to think about tomorrow today.

Thank you for these words. My two downfalls - clutter and disorganization! They keep me from getting to those activities I love - reading, piano, sewing, etc. I love the book you were reading in this video. They faced such chaos, major home repairs, but they loved their food, neighbors, and even the repairmen! In the midst of the chaos they enjoyed their life in Provence.

I like the idea of 'boutique home' mentality. There used to be a programme in the UK called 'Upstairs Downstairs' about life in Edwardian times and watching the routine of looking after an Edwardian home always motivated me to be tidy and clean.

Such good advice .. and beautiful music too. My mother always used to say "Never put off till tomorrow, what you can do today" I've always done that, and I do think it stops jobs from mounting up. :D

Yes I completely agree, and especially in this age, young homemakers start out not knowing where to .... start! I spent many years drowning in frustration and constantly telling my husband that I was set up to fail in my job as a homemaker because I didn’t have working systems in place and didn’t even know how to get to that point. And once you already have children, it is infinitely more difficult to figure out how to be well prepared for keeping a home. I would love to see you do a few more videos on this topic, showing a few vital areas you spend time being well prepared... If you could show us some of your basic foundations of preparedness, I think this would be so helpful to new homemakers.

Yes, just about 4 years in and I'm still a mess. 😭 But with the Lord i keep praying to be a better wife and mother and he knows I'm trying to honor his word by tending the home and he's led me to certain channels or given me patience and energy to do tasks that help make my home better. I just commented on her last video about how i need to do more meal prepping. So i know that is something the Lord is going to work in me next. Amen. Everything is a process and i should enjoy it instead of trying to be perfect at it already 😓

Loving this series, and your writing, Jennifer. When I first read your book and began watching (many years ago!), I would have called myself a hopeless housekeeper. I never resented being a SAHM/homemaker - I'd left a job as a busy litigation attorney (which I loved) to be at home with my kids (which I loved more.) I considered it a privilege (and still do), but I felt hopeless, as I did not learn about routines and habits as a child (and was always a slob..it becomes sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy, once you identify yourself that way.) I didn't want my children growing up in chaos. Your books and your videos have truly changed things for me. Am I perfect and is my house always tidy? Absolutely not. But the improvement is startling, and life is much better. I am still working on ways to improve, mainly to ensure that I can ENJOY my life at home that much more. Thank you for all the motiviation and encouragement.

This video and advice is good for everyone trying to keep their house nice and organized. I am retired and live alone. I had a housekeeper for 20 years or so while I worked a high stress job. Now, after 31 years of work, I keep my own house and enjoy it and even do a more thorough job than my housekeeper did. If I am not organized, and if I do not stay on track with my routines, then the work increases and is harder for me to do. I am always amazed at where you got such wisdom as such a young age. Thanks for your help.

So true! Whether you adopt the Flylady method, are a list maker🙋, use a planner, whatever, find a way to be prepared. Then, those daily unexpected moments won't throw you wildly off course.🙌🙌
@myrasimmons3535
@myrasimmons3535 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, being prepared and organized makes what would be a "major setback" simply a little "bump in the road". I have adopted a cleaning routine over the past year that I don't deviate from hardly ever, but I have had to adjust now that I am back at work full time. Adjusting simply meant moving my "desk planning day" from Wednesday to Thursday. I also realized that I don't have to do the actual grocery shopping. I can order online and pick it up on my way home from work, saving me about two hours on a Saturday. It makes it even more important to menu plan and write out a grocery list so that when I get ready to order, I'm not wasting two hours online trying to figure out what I need. I have two built in "catch up" days in my week. If something happens on a day (like today where we had a major vehicle problem and it's our midweek service at church) where it makes it impossible for me to do my daily home blessing task, I have a day that I can move it to in order to catch up. I use Flylady's routines as my inspiration, along with your books, but I make my routines work for my life. Routines and order make my life so much easier and peaceful.

Oh I love this series Jennifer, keep them coming! I love how you take so much pride in homemaking and it helps us not to fall into the feeling that it is so mundane. I like to listen to 1940’s music while I clean and it really keeps me focused. Lovely to see your oldest girl and baby boy in this video. Both are growing up so fast ! For me, having dinner organised is the most important task - once I know what I’m cooking (or better still, have already cooked and just need to reheat/complete) I feel like the rest of my day falls into place.

I can not imagine getting everything done throughout the day for the family and home if I had to work. I have watched my mom work and come home exhausted. The house in neglected because of it. Believe it or not I cannot prepare unless I put it on paper. It’s like the words are so much more of a reminder and visual as you go about your day. This video is so true.

This is an area that doesn’t come naturally to me. I have to be very intentional about being prepared because something in my nature just doesn’t want to be. 🤪 With school starting, I’m doing my best to make lunches the night before, load backpacks the night before, ect. It really does take the pressure off in the morning.

I'm learning so much from your homemaking videos! Growing up my mom was always working & busy with social activities, so we didn't have a harmonious home life. I remember my white envy for one of my friends whose mom was a 100% home maker and seemed to be at home for her, ready & prepared. I wanted that for my children someday. Of course my own home is not perfect. I am struggling to balance running our business, running our home, and spending quality time with my kids every single day. Your videos are a great help - both as how-to's and inspiration to keep on going.

It is so refreshing to see a young woman who makes the beauty of homemaking look attractive and though a hard job at times, it truly is an art! When I was a young woman being a homemaker was all I desired to be. Though I loved art, fine music and tea time I also incorporated those passions into my regular chores , even having three boys!♥️ I wore an apron and dresses when it was unpopular( still do ) though I enjoy pants as well. I don't know, I just felt compelled to say a small bit about me with another woman who enjoys being a lady and making her home a refuge of comfort and serenity! I believe it is a woman's highest privlege! God bless you!🌹

Question about the books you were holding... I know the 3 chic books & the children’s book coming out. However, it looks like you were holding an extra red/orange book cover as well. What is that book as well?? Thank you for inspiring all of us! These are the attitudes I grew up with. A good dinner or supper was enjoyed, then the adults would linger over a cup of coffee and enjoy the conversation. When we were children and all the cousins were @ the grandparents home. We HAD to set in the living room to “let our food settle” according to grandpa. After about 30 minutes of whispering, story telling and snickers and giggles we got to take off outside again and play around the yard. To this day I miss the coffee pot always going and family and friends coming & going, always a family connection. It is kind of sad that we are spread all over the country now. How I miss those days helping grandma around the house (I am sure I was in her way more than helping 🤪) I had amazing parents that allowed us to share and enjoy all of our families! Oh my goodness!! I am rambling!! Sorry! Your vlogs stir up wonderful memories of my past and those who have crossed on over the “other side of Jordan!”

Love you, Amy! I know you've been having a hard week too with Andrea passing. It's so upsetting. But God is still good. Sending love, my friend. Jennifer xx

Thank you, Jennifer. You are an inspiration! Thank you for your wonderful content here. I would wish to, but will not be able to join your paid subscription..i live on a tight budget. But you are bringing light and hope to my corner of the world, and i can offer you my prayers to the Lord in thanks and request for His blessing upon you and your family; I know this is real and effective. Much appreciation.
