8.45 Good morning Jennifer, firstly I’m in my seventies and my favourite dresses are both from The Pretty Dress Company and secondly David Nieper. The Pretty Dress Company is a wonderful site with various different styles covering 1950’s-to present day and David Nieper dresses are a more classic style made by the company and items can be altered in length etc for a little bit extra cost. Personally I’m not into midi length as I am longer in the body but shorter in the legs so it’s knee length or ankle length to avoid looking too heavy. 😅 I can highly recommend both of these Companies, so they are worth taking a look at.

Hi Jennifer. I live in Minnesota where each season is very different. So, I have clothes for each one. However, I have too many clothes and want to pare them down. I like the idea of a 10-item wardrobe and wonder if I can make that happen.

This is so interesting! Like you, I lived and studied in France in college and had a beautiful experience. I have read all of your books…multiple times. Thank you!

I’ve been really enjoying the Quince pieces I have. I hope you get good use out of yours! Ideally, one day I would love to switch out my wardrobe *almost* entirely with each season 😅 but in the meantime, I am doing the same thing as you! It’s been really fun to see a whole new aesthetic take place in my closet as the weather changes and I make the necessary wardrobe adjustments!

I just finished your book „Life lessons of Madame Chic“ (it helped me improve my English) and you are so right. It‘s the little things in everyday life that make us feel good. A cluttered home makes me feel crappy, so I put more effort into a tidy decorated home. I also bought myself a few sets of nice clothes for around the house, because I‘m tired of spending most of my life in old threadbare clothes. Thank you for inspiring us all! 😃 💐 Best wishes from Germany 🇩🇪

I have enough space to have all of my clothes in my closet all at once. But I divided them by season so that I have different "10 item wardrobes" in my closet, so to speak. I can then pull pieces out of another "10 item wardrobe" in a very uncomplicated way, even if it is technically the wrong seasonal "10 item wardrobe". I do this a lot in the transitional weeks, for example one warmer day I take a short sleeve dress from my "spring" wardrobe, but a long sleeve top from the "autumn" section the next day if it is cooler. Technically, september is autum anyway, but temperatures might be extremely different from day to day.

I love CM and this video! So inspired to give her routine a try now. Thanks! I loved Andreola’s book too and am slowly reading Home Education. Have you heard of The Children’s Tradition? New curriculum CM inspired + Classical, based on John Seniors 1000 Books list… I’m just in the early years and don’t need to start formal lessons yet but it looks like a fabulous spine for curriculum.

The Tyger has always been one of my favorite poems, to the extent that I learned it by heart. I think the language is so beautiful as well as the idea of being overcome with awe that God could create such a magnificently fierce creature. My favorite line is "And when the stars threw down their spears and watered heaven with their tears," such beautiful imagery!

This was wonderful! You subs comments were great too. I live in Clearwater Florida and, when not evacuating from too frequent hurricanes, we basically have 2 seasons. Wet season and dry season. I've been told the "easiest" is to wear the same clothes all year but just add jeans and cardigans. I'm not a jeans person and haven't worn an actual pair of pants in at least 7 years. Our temperatures are much, much warmer than our averages, at least 4 to 9 degrees higher per day. We are still at 90ish which is extremely unusual. I'd love to learn to plan a 10 item wardrobe but cannot figure out the Core and the Extras. I've got your books but still am having trouble. Do you have a video or blog post to explain? Thank you!!

Great video! I like in coastal South Carolina so it’s warm a majority time of the year. It’s still in the 80-90s for the fall so i just switch out colors of tops. I just invested in Quince $50 cashmere sweaters for this season so I’m looking forward to that. After Thanksgiving i will get out holiday wear (sweaters and Christmas colors) and wear thru my birthday in January! In addition to quince im also enjoying chicos clothing

I live Ohio, so we have extremes. However I still find myself doing my capsules into two seasons basically: late spring-mid fall & the second. I just add more layers and then the jackets change into coats and scarves and ugg boots are added etc.. heat of the summer I switch to sandals and ditch the cardigans over my tanks tops and short sleeve blouses. Pj’s stay the same really because even in the summer we crank the ac at night lol.

I love that silhouette of dress on you!! I recently discovered a brand that I am in love with - Ivy City Co. Their dresses and tops and 💯 my style. I’ve been trying to find a ditsy floral brown dress that is nursing-friendly and NOT polyester. When I found the high quality cotton one on Ivy City, I wasn’t sure if I should pay a higher price point (it is $118) rather than the $60 range I was looking for. BUT- it is everything I want- perfect brown ditsy floral, tiered, nursing-friendly, and high quality fabric - the ONLY one I can find that meets all my requirements. I can see why a 10-item wardrobe is so good when you invest in quality pieces. I need to get dresses that are nursing-friendly and larger size, and I’m going to get this dress from Ivy City Co. And since I know that I love that silhouette, maybe I’d get another to get the free shipping. I’ve never spent that much money on a dress. So I am thinking of trying the 10 item wardrobe . I have my favorites that I always wear, so maybe now is a good time to try?? I love red all year round, haha! I am actually wearing a red button down short sleeve shirt over a tan plaid wool skirt. Where I live, we can have 4 seasons in a single day, so I don’t really do a seasonal wardrobe. I just keep my heavy knits on the shelf above my closet rack, and I bring my jackets to the forefront of my closet in the Fall. 🍂🍁

You alwayss look so elegant. I get so much great advice about a classic life from you, whether it is fashion, cooking or home style! I am working on a 10 item wardrobe, I struggle. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio and many of our malls have closed. I do order online, there is a JC Penney near my home. The Liz Claiborne collection and Evan Picone are always classic and affordable. So I can get ideas for a great wardrobe and incorporate it into what I can afford. Who knew JCP was still around and thriving?!!

I live in Norway and the seasons are very varied. Still I find it very easy to stretch my wardrobe for 2 seasons like you do. The key is to have lots of layering options. I've switched to my autumn/winter wardrobe now and it works so well. Take a shirt as an example. I can wear it on it's own now that it's been quite warm and when it gets colder I have 2 different cardigan options - one thick and warm, the other a thinner version - so I'm ready for any temperature 🍁❄️☀️🌻

My experience is, as a teenager I would be extremely criticized and receive much negativity if I dressed nice or did my hair or makeup (which I loved to do) from my mother. Then my first husband of 20 years was exactly the same. Dressing nicely, doing my hair and makeup, it all received such negativity, it was awful. So, now at almost 53 years of age, I really struggle to do it and find that I can literally get so "worked up" over it, I feel sick, so I just dress like a slob.

Hello Jennifer, I have less than 10 items for my wardrobe by choice. I keep all my items including handbags and footwear for several years until they are worn out. I have black suede winter boots that were made in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and this upcoming winter it will be their 12th season and they are still beautiful. I often have people compliment me when I wear them.

I have the summerset dress from Anthro, and never wear it because the 3 tiers of elastic are just too much and aren't comfortable. If they made the dress with just one elastic band, that would be better.

We don’t experience extreme changes in temperature in the southern US, so I tend to stick with spring/summer clothing for about nine months each year. I simply add a coat, jacket, sweater or cardigan as needed and change footwear from sandals to flats to boots. I’m actually really happy I can do this, taking care to retire something once it stops looking its best.

I’ve found that I need three wardrobes - winter, summer and a third that does the more mild spring / autumn weather. Dressing in an ‘autumnal’ way isn’t such a big thing in Australia as we don’t have a lot of deciduous trees with changing leaves so it works to have the same clothes for the similar weather of autumn and spring. Once it gets really warm in summer almost all my spring clothes have to get put away.
