The Third Edition of the Bauhinia Festival Celebrated at Laisong Dima Hasao
The third edition of Bauhinia Blossom festival was celebrated at NLZSU field at Laisong village in Dima Hasao.
On the day Bharat Jeme, Asst. Account Officer graced the program as a chief guest along with guest of honour Swadeep Hasamsa, Managing Editor, Hills Live and Kenlumyile, renown singer from Nagaland.
Rasong Nriame convenor of the festival briefed on the festival while recalling their fore fathers who have connection with Bauhinia and the settlement of ancestors with the land.
He said that without Bauhinia flowers the festivals of Jeme Naga are incomplete and taking it towards celebration as a Festival will protect and promote the culture, heritage and traditions of Jeme tribe.
He urged the Tourism Department to promote with due importance to the Bauhinia Festival like other festivals of Dima Hasao.
Chief Guest Bharat Jeme, stressed to promote such festival and protect the traditions through culture while setting out an example of the Cherry Blossom festival in Meghalaya.
Swadeep Hasamsa, spoke at length on how festival started in a small event catching eyes of people and eventually become big event. He also hoped that the festival would be recognised and boost tourism at the village.
Laisong which is also known for its rich cultural and tradition is around 60 km away from Haflong.
The festival is celebrated in Laisong due to abundancy of the flower in the area.
The festival aims to showcase the century old tradition of the Zeme Naga tribes and creates an awareness on preservation of nature while promoting tourism at a same.
