The best actual real con I ever heard from a TV report, was a thief tripping the alarm to cause the patrol to arrive only to find no thief & nothing taken. He did that two more times that night & they shut off the alarm thinking it wasn't working right. Then w/alarm off he cut thru the roof, dropped down & took priceless art. Pretty smart.

The last line of the film - "Next time, I'll break *both* your arms" - is a reference to the painting that Thomas Crown is supposed to steal. If you look closely at Magritte's "The Son of Man," you'll see that the left elbow bends in the wrong direction, as if it's been broken.

Gonna be pretentious by saying you need to know at least a little bit about movie making to appreciate the mastery at play here. John McTiernan is a master at making chaos readable. The way everything flows fluidly, how each scene leads to the next in an elegant and easy to read manner when most directors wouldn't have a clue of how making this stuff readable... You got Thomas Crowne, you need to know where he is, what he's doing, you got his hired clones, the cops, Rene Russo and all the crowd in the museum... and at no point are you lost. Dude grabs you by the hand, and basically goes "let me embark you in the jazziest action sequence ever." And in the end you're like "who's the mastermind, here? Crowne, or McTiernan?" :D

No, it would have been just fine and easy to be restored to its original state because it was oil on canvas. There is another weakness worse than that though. The original Pissarro's painting The Artist's Garden at Eragny is oil on canvas, too. And the fake painting that Crown donated to the museum obviously had to be a watercolor one for the trick at the end to work. There is no way the experts would not have noticed the difference between an oil and a watercolor painting and they would've known it was a fake right away.

@@brentage5000 well... It works well in the movie and make people go 'wow!!!', so I'm fine with it. While the movie was entertaining, it would not have been possible in real life but who cares? 😃 I love art heist movies and I enjoy the idea of someone pulling off the perfect one so I was pissed at first (it's too obviously impossible) but then I was like - big deal, it's an exciting movie with a thrilling ending.
@ReaverLordTonus4 жыл бұрын
@@elliebakalova1239 Actually the people at the museum wouldn't examine it if he already had documentation stating it was already verified as real. He could easily provide them as either faked or if in fact he really did own the Pissaro painting and simply showed them the paperwork for the real one. Not to mention they wouldn't have any reason to suspect it was a forgery given who was loaning it to them. So it's entirely possible they just put the painting in there without questioning it.
@stacythomas71624 жыл бұрын
@@ReaverLordTonus Yes I was thinking the same thing. If a wealthy collector was leading out a supposedly priceless work of art, I doubt the art experts would insult that collector's generosity by testing to see of the painting was a legit original.
