My Carbon V SRK served in the Army all through the 90s. It is attached to my edc bag and still serves to this day. I trust it like an old friend. The newer ones are not as good. I also use the Companion HD in the woods.

@DasDutchman56 Well kinda....they Sure missed their mark by a thousand miles with their new ash wood releases in....wait for it.....'recycled steel'.....😅😅😅😅
@alcattyman7976 ай бұрын
'Recycled Stainless steel' is Mora terminology for what it is - Alleima 12C27. Most steel used by producers is in fact recycled, completely routine and standard practice. They go on, on their website, after stating it is 'recycled Swedish stainless steel' to say it is 12C27, and also mention 14C28N. But I do agree the price asked for the knives mentioned is a bit steep - even if they are from 12C27 treated to perfection and have a Scandi grind that is constantly renewable with identical edge geometry !, cheers, Al.

My responses. 1. Moras. The value is there. I purchased a large number so I could do all kinds of modifications. Gave away a number of them as gifts. 2. srk compact. The handle is to short for me. I have multiples of the full size and the tanto blade versions. 3. Gerber. I stopped patronizing the company many years ago. However, I have Mark 1 and Mark 2 blades from almost 50 years ago.I would have purchased more of them over the years if they had remained available in the original configurations.

@jameswysocki68066 ай бұрын
Great video. People need to remember that everyone uses knives for their own purpose and their is no one knife for everyone. KZbin reviews are for the algorithm anymore, and finding what works for you is more important than what anyone tells you works for them. Hell, a lot of people buy knives just to collect and never use them, and there is nothing wrong with that. The SRK just never did it for me. I have 2 1990s Cold Steel Recon Tantos and they just did it for me over the SRK. Mora is definitely bang for your buck. Gerber left a bad impression with me 20 years ago and I have never bought another, but damn they did sell a ton of the Strongarm.

I had a mora companion. It was one of my all time favorites! Not the hardest steel but sharpened like butter and held a surprisingly long lasting edge. I abused it and it still didn't fail . Even though it's not a full tang . It held up to batoning extremely well. I gotta get another one! I lost it trailblazing in some very thick jungle... the only slight complaint is the sheaths being noisy and the reason I lost mine...

For the price point, BKS knives are an excellent value. They put the most effort into the blades and edges. The handles are not finished to a high degree but again, the price point makes up for that. The quality of their sheaths though is worth the price of the knife/sheath combinations alone. Like many guys, I have beautiful, hand made knives that are spendy and therefore, stay home and pristine, while my BPS’s and high grade Mora’s get USED. I’ve bought BPS sheaths for my Mora’s and all their products make great gifts, especially for beginners and younger bushcrafters. Nope, they’re not likely to take the abuse of that Gerber, but used for typical stuff in the field…they’re worth a look. I also like that they are handmade in Ukraine, and those guys can use a break.

There's very few Mora's that weren't reviewed to the point of nearly breaking the KZbins. Maybe the one with the huge blade not so much. An interesting video! "Popular" is a misleading description, however. That's because it has a major component of being cheap, which tends to drive many comments and purchases. Also, size comes into it. These a all small to medium size knives, cheap, and good alternatives. It might be interesting to do a personal choice by size category ( eg up to 4,5", 4,5-7,5", and over 7,5' sizes. Here's my choices: Small: Here I'm going for a very new blade - the Victorinox Venture Pro! This is an amazing offering, and compares very favourably with the Mora Garberg, and priced similarly, but with many more features. Medium: Here I agree with you - Cold Steel SRK (CPM3V, in sabre grind version). The ultimate belt knife! Large: Here I must go for my Cold Steel Trail Master (San Mai III version)! While the Becker BK9 is an awesome knife, my favourite is the TM!! The instant one grips the TM in your hand it just feels SOOO right! That convex blade (like that of the Falkniven Modern Bowie) is a fantastic blade for just about any heavy task. "What about Scandi knives?" you may ask? Good question. I would see them as a separate category altogether. Here I guess the Mora Garberg is about as good as it gets. There are of course dozens of superb custom-crafted versions (like those of Rob Evans, Wales) so I'd see them separate from mainstream commercially produced blades. Any comment? Enjoyed the video! Cheers mate!

My favorite, are : TRC Mille Cuori, Ka-Bar Mark 1 & Becker BK7, Manly Patriot (my edc and most used knife), Mora Bushcraft Black (the first model with the havier handle/more robust tang) and the Mora Robust. Mrakniv's Carbon steel, is better than the average 1095 steel blades on the market and way better (exept rust resistance) than their Stainless options. Scandi grinds, work WAY better with low alloy steels, that's why you see most traditional ones, made of similar low alloy steels. That being said, steel, is the LAST factor, you should care about on a knife. it's everything else, even sheath and handle, that matter more. If the knife is not made properly, no matter what steel they used, it will suck.

Interesting about the handle on the SRK. If that molded handle came lose, that is a black eye for every knife with a handle like that which is most of the CS fixed blades AND the Falkniven knives. Just "slicing" with an SRK? That is NOT what the SRK is designed for. It's a thick blade with a thick edge and won't slice very efficiently. That's the last knife I would buy for just slicing.
