Yes!!! For real! A thing I’ve noticed is that all the ppl preaching that “oh, you shouldn’t be disappointed if you don’t get any revenges/ attacks! It’s not about getting stuff, it’s about gifting art!” … are most often artists with a big following, who get tons of attacks 🤨 Like I remember the first week of my first year I put out so many attacks and didn’t get anything back, but I took comfort in people sharing their similar experience and helping me trust the process. If other artists had just gotten mad at me for being confused and disappointed, I probably wouldn’t have wanted to continue being a part of the community. Let’s try not to be toxically positive to new artists PLEASE Edit: I’m just sharing my personal experience from when I was first starting out. I’m not saying Artfight is only about getting free art. Of course I and many others enjoy drawing for other ppl. And that is my top reason for participating. But as I said before, there is nothing wrong with feeling a little disappointed and questioning your own skills when you’re giving it your all and there are still no comments or attacks coming your way. Especially if you were a young, insecure teenager like I was at the time. If you never felt that way, good for you! Really! But I and many others did. And there is nothing wrong with that. Those of you continuing to say it’s wrong to feel that way in the comments are really just proving my point about the toxic positivity.

omg THIS! Like its always the ones who get loooaaaads of fanart. Its not longer about drawing ocs it's them getting free art which is wild. This was something I saw with a warrior channel I used to watch idek who it was but man it was disappointing to see people act like that. It's okay to be sad to not get a gift art at all. :( I had this happen with a "friend" I had to drop because thye told people they'd attack and then only attacked those who made them like super expensive looking art for free and then quietly bashed people behind their back I fund out about later..

I'm small and I dont care if I dont get attacked all that much. Many of the characters I ended up drawing came from those who are just as small and I just like drawing and expecting nothing. Especinally since not everyone has enough time or even get the inspiration to attack back.

Hi. I’m a veteran art fighter. My seventh year in fact. I can confirm I have rarely run into any problems. If you don’t focus on the drama everything is so fun! I have unfortunately been in the “my oc is barely in the mass attack” before but in the around hundred attacks I’ve gotten it is a very minuscule amount. Artfight has been so good for me and my journey as an artist as well. Artfight is the PERFECT time to try new things and experiment in whatever way you want. I’m fact, I’ve started my very own mass attack this year! Not with 100 characters I would die but I’ve never drawn a piece with 16 before so lol. But yeah, just have fun and don’t get involved in the drama. Have a wonderful artfight!!

Also a vet here! This is my 9th fight (started in 2015, missed 2016 tho) and honestly this is so true. Artfight has significantly improved my art after doing it for so long and I’ve met so many wonderful people and gotten so many awesome attacks, a few of which were mass attacks! Even in the mass attacks where my character is less visible im usually just in awe when someone takes that much time to do something like a mass attack. And in addition attacks like that make up maybe 1% of all the attacks I’ve gotten over the last decade. I just really hope that everyone who participates can have some fun fighting ! ❤ sorry if this was a bit rambly I am so tired

Frick tiktok, the Artfight discord is the sweetest place, it's the REAL artfight community. Alright here's what my options as a 3rd yearer 1st. The artfight spirit is gifting, not taking, comments, revenges, attacks, if those are your main focus, this event may not be for you. Not that I wouldn't be sad if I received little attacks and revenges (like, an 80% ratio for example), but the spirit is giving, the ideal ratio is 50-60. 2. OH MY GOD THE thats the 3 pixels your over there!! It's fine as long as the artist uses the large canvas or it's animated, BOTH OF WHICH HAVE BEEN DONE FOR YEARS. 3. Hi guys, use warnings. Please ALSO read the rules. Awsome, love yall. 4. Oh hey point farming, point farming is DEFINED in rhe rules, unless your breaking the rules, have fun. 5. I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Every year a VITAL part of artfight prep even if your not updating your ref's or profile images or profile in general. A VITAL PART is to read the attack guide, filter guide, and general rules, and if they update them? To bad, read them again. I now have to site parts of the size guide in my attacks desc (animation attacks only usually) sometimes because people don't know that under 15% is simple shapped, and over 75 is fullbody. My first artfight was 2022s, and my first ever attack was a low quality lined paper drawing of one of my characters. And that was honestly the best things I’ve ever received, no matter the skill level, artstyle, or how long you’ve been on artfight, i will always ADORE whenever someone draws one of my characters. I want to add on to this commentary. As a first year art fighter, this has been very much an experimental phase. You can learn so much, try out new things you never tried before, all of it is just so worth it. I personally have improved in efficiency and style. Also its just fun, you can choose what to draw and send it off, simple as that.

What i like to do is pair the character i want to draw from the team i'm on with a character from the opposing team, then make the OTHER person the main recipient. That way the points don't get reduced and i make TWICE as many people happy! :)

I've participated in ArtFight every year since 2017 What I would describe as the "tiktokification of artfight" is just the fact that TikTok takes everything as a big ass drama These things as you say have always happened, but in these past 7 years I've had none of these happen to me, at most I've had people not comment on my attack, but that has honestly been a rare occurrence. Not to mention, they forget that ArtFight is not +18 only, you can participate as young as 13 years old, and there's a lot of kids in it so of course some will try to cheat or will not understand the rules. Then again, a lot of TikTok is also little kids or teens that don't understand what really constitutes a serious problem. The moderation team does a good job and is there for a reason, it's not on the user's to go around policing what one or the other is doing wrong past reporting what they feel is breaking the rules. Also, personal recommendation for getting attacks back: if you always target people who get 100 attacks every year, then you're really lowering your chances of getting revenges. Not that all big artists never attack back, but it's gonna be hard for someone with many attacks to revenge everyone.

This! This needs to be said. Art Fight is a fun event and it should be treated as such. You don't need to receive revenges or attention or treat the event as a competition to be won, the main goal is to just have fun. (The "fight" in Art Fight doesn't need to be literal!) I used to self-sabotage my own AF experience by being jealous towards others getting attacked instead of me, but I managed to get over it by not worrying all the time and enjoying the event at my own pace (and clearing all my notifications without looking at them). Really, if you stop focusing on the drama within the community you'll begin to see the good people within. PS: My younger brother joined Art Fight this year and I'm hoping that he has a good time!

About point-farming : It DOES ruin artfight for people who their OC got used as simply a point fodder. You haven't had it happened to you, you thought it's miniscule, but if you understand how it can be sad sometimes when you didn't get any attacks at all, you probably can imagine how upset someone will be if they got all excited for an attack, but turns out it just someone using your beloved OC to farm point. Bad quality art doesn't mean art that got make quickly, or beginner art. I will be happy with a 10 mins doodle if that person is genuine about it, but when your character got marked as number and turned into lines and blobs that doesn't even resemble anything let alone their likeness it feels...bad. It feels bad that your original character who you love and wish to share with people are simply points. It's less about points and winning, and more about the frustration of people who got that done to you. I'm glad that had never happened to you though

I used ArtFight as a way to fight art block, and would use the "view a random character" to pick who to draw. I did also make sure I picked active players. It was legitimately disappointing to not have any art drawn of my characters - neither attacked or defenses. I got over that in the second year I tried ArtFight - but what bothered me the most was people not even saying "thanks" or commenting at all. This year I deleted my roster and decided not to participate and I think that was a good choice for me.

Hearing you bring up point farming made me just flash back to the absolutely crazy controversy about "Wormy Night" back in Dream vs Nightmare and how it rippled into a lot of worm attacks the following year... it was back before there was the Simple-Shaped categorization, but it's also like... it's crazy how much bad faith people read into just a fun event. Been here since Tea vs Coffee, and honestly the points stopped mattering for a good while for me, especially since my partner and I always are on opposite teams, so one of us always wins every year, haha. I honestly really love getting mass attacks. I've gotten two so far (Ironically, with the same oc lol) and it's just fun seeing character interacting with others or the drawing having a theme with all the ocs used. For example, my oc is based on the song Dr. Sunshine is Dead by Will Wood, and the first one I recieved was mass attack with ocs that were based on the song (They called it the "Dr. Sunshine Convention" and it was so fun, they even had the ballpit-). While the second one, was generally Will Wood based ocs and they were all in front of the house from the Normal Album cover. They're just so much space for creativity and such.

My main issue with everything that's been going on is how it's effecting some of the new players, they worry so much about meeting like an attack "quota" or that they're letting their team down because of how it's discussed on tiktok. Kinda makes me sad the hellopaint partnership isn't happening anymore because it made it clear what "the point of art fight is". My friends play gartic games together during art fight and I've kinda thought about making a tiktok showing how my friends celebrate and participate in art fight to help show newer people that. There isn't really a "right" way to participate in art fight and more people need to understand that

I’m glad you mentioned the people disappointed about not receiving an attack. This year, I encouraged some friends to join ArtFight, and one of them didn’t get a single attack the entire month. She kept asking what she was doing wrong, and I kept giving her suggestions, but nothing worked. We all felt bad for her, and ultimately, another friend gave her a friendly fire a few hours before ArtFight ended to make her feel better.

This year is my 10th (!!!) Art Fight. I have some tips! :) - I recommend a mindset of "now's my chance to practice a bunch!!" Try a new medium or style, pick characters based on how fun they'd be to draw, use others' OCs as warmups and sketches and little projects, do whatever you feel comfortable with. If you go in expecting art trades, you're more likely to be disappointed, because Art Fight attacks don't come with a promise of art in return the way an art trade does. - That said, it's totally normal to be disappointed when you don't get attacks or revenges, or when people don't comment on your attacks. Try not to take it personally, even though it can be difficult. - If you want to have the best chance of receiving a revenge attack, I recommend having clear images for your characters and focusing on attacking really active artists - artists who have more attacks than defenses this fight. (You can tell which fight the art came from by the color of its border.) - You DO NOT NEED a super complex, polished, 3-angle turnaround Reference Sheet(tm) of every character. If the colors are clear and people can see the character's whole body - or if your description fills in any blanks - you're good. - Personally, I have the most fun when I literally forget about teams/points/etc. Winning doesn't matter, so why let it get you down? - Use your descriptions and permissions, and keep them short. A total lore breakdown isn't necessary. Focus on important design notes, basic personality traits, and key relationships. - Make your permissions clear and to-the-point. You don't need to explain your reasoning - "no gore" is just fine. - Tag your characters. Don't use hashtags. DO use descriptive tags for things like species, fandom, role, setting, and colors. (A good set of tags for a Warriors OC would be "cat" "feral" "warriors" "tabby" "shadowclan" "adult" "leader" and so on.) - Drop your AF username in the comments! I might be looking for some characters to doodle on a road trip in a couple days. :)

One of the very first attacks i got ever was a drawing of my oc in a pink dress, and it was from a very clearly begginer artist. I CHERISH that drawing. Because it was the first piece of "free art" i ever received. And i hope that the artist knows how truly appreciated that drawing is. Even if the very next attack i got was by someone even "better" than me. I appreciated both very equally. It's not about how good the drawing was. It was just nice that someone wanted to draw my oc.

This is my third artfight and I’ve had a great time each year. Most of my art’s improvement happens in July because I try to really push myself and my abilities for AF. I get more eyes on my characters and my art, which often leads to more commissions/adoptable sales when the event is over. As someone who is joining Artfight 4 years in a row - and this year is no exception - I can agree that people from tiktok is highly exaggeratin' it's meaning in general and they have high hopes for practically nothing. No one is obligated to react, make revenges, an so on - it's game for fun, and fun is very complicated thing, to be fair. If someone is really sad - to put it lightly - over their lose or having not that much of attacks on themselves - it's their loss and they are not ready for such... Silly competitive game, where it's not even the goal of this event itself. Artfight as an event has some problems, it's a fact and some kind of general knowledge, but it's not the problem about it's goal. While you can have fun - it does it's job well, but it's my personal opinion on this. Good video, by the way! Thanks for bringing this topic to light - I'm afraid, there is a lot of people who'll agree on this, but they're scared or shy to talk about it in public.

I'd only heard about the "tick-tockification" from my boyfriend thanks to my hatred of having social medias. Pro-tip: In order to enjoy artfight, do it for yourself! I remember joining when the management of the site was under fire, and I had to come to the realization that my first Artfight would probably be my last. And I was ok with that. I just wanted to draw stuff for people. Thankfully, it wasn't my last, and this one isn't either! I'll keep attacking peeps until the sun goes down! It's fun! ^w^

Bit of a personal story I wanted to share lol: I remember deciding to skip out on artfight last year because of the toxicity. This year, my friends peer pressured me into joining last minute and I did. I went on a new account for a fresh start and all too. Beginning of the event this year, I got one attack and it was my OWN ART, traced and sent to me. I obviously got it deleted but it was super discouraging, I only got my first actual attack today and it was a mass attack. It’s really hard to keep feeling motivated for this whole thing, especially when I compare it to my friends or to me. I’m still going through artfight strong though!! I’m trying to be way more open minded this year rather than my past years. The community has only gotten more toxic but if you stay off social media, you’ll be able to find some really awesome people. I know I have! Good luck for the rest of the event :}

Putting the Art Fight drama aside for a second, I'd just like to appreciate that first drawing of all the wispy characters (can't tell if all of them are allays). That scenerie being a draw-over of a normal Minecraft screenshot especially turned out phenomenally and the characters are all so expressive. I think you could've integrated them into the environment a bit better (though I also believe that's mainly down to the location not having that many options in that regard). And there's a persona taste thing to note that the characters all look too solid to be wispy like allays and vexes, ending up more with the feel of winged slugcats than spectral little fellows - using the trails the allays have in Minecraft Legends as reference would be more the direction I'd have expected them to be rendered. Regardless of that though, it's still an awesome piece and I hope it was well received.

Omg i just started the video and i honestly hate Tiktok so much. I've been doing Artfight for 3 years and i was so excited when i first discovered it! I only drew a few drawings my first year, and even received a few drawings back! I appreicate all artwork from all artists, no matter the skill level. Anyone who feels like they should receive high quality art all the time throughout the game seem are the worst type of people; that itself speaks VOLUMES about your character, and its ugly. Like, did you forget when you started drawing? Using MS paint and your computer mouse, trying to draw your favorite characters? Or maybe you used your finger on your tablet, or used bases when you first started! For traditional artists, you probably either directly traced or copied existing art pieces by looking at the drawing and redrawing it yourself, or something like that! The beginner artists on Art Fight are amazing, intermediate artists are amazing, and expert artists are amazing too! I get so excited whenever someone draws my characters; a lot of people tend to draw one of my characters more than my other ones, but that could be due to how easy she seems to draw or maybe they simply like her? Idk! I'm happy anyways. Art Fight is literally a GAME. There is no need to bully, bash, or get so stressed and worried about making sure things are perfect. Sure, its a competive game but it doesnt have to be for YOU. You can set realistc and achievable goals for yourself as an artist! Maybe challenge yourself to draw 10 attacks, or a series of similar goals to reach before the end of Art Fight. And if you dont reach that exact goal, you still DID SOMETHING!! Be proud!

I have to agree with a lot. I saw many people pumping out finished paintings in the first our. I even saw them posting attacks before AF started on bsky or Twitter. I reported many of these people and nothing happened. I saw many people point farming by pumping out 4000 pieces of art. One of the Rules is that any piece for Art Fight should have a general level of effort put into it. My friend even found actual gore and sexual stuff. Reported. Nothing happened. I am not saying that these thing are ruining art fight but the lack of moderation this year is baffling Also one part I strongly disagree are comments. If somebody puts the work into your character, the LEAST one can say is thank you. That is common decensy.

I actually love when my Ocs are included in a mass attack bcos they usually have a theme for the characters they pick so I’m often interested in the other Ocs included which gives me more targets myself 😍 also people underestimate how much time a mass attack can take. I made one that had twelve characters which was themed on fruit salad (each character I included was found through the tag search feature so I always found characters with a fruit theme tag) and it literally took me 3 days for only twelve characters. The people making huge mass attacks with like 25+ characters have my respect no matter how detailed the resulting characters are because you have to be majorly dedicated.ESPECIALLY if the attack has character interactions and shows of each characters personality rather than a duplicated sketch with a different character drawn over it

I known of art fight for a loong time I got many friends who part take in art fight, talk about it show art, fun little game however I do believe some cheap people will use art fight as a "get free art" mythod, and maybe thats why some get really mad when they get "bad" art they want good free art. which to me is scummy...if this is the case. I only assume this because I play a game that involes around art called "draw the OC above you" and yeah some people will use that game as a "get free art" mythod. and they get really hostile and rude when the art is "not good" or "Draw this tiny detail wrong!?" it ruins the fun for people. to me if you want art done, pay for it. don't use a fun little game as a free way to gain art.

one complaint that I do have, is that NSFW artists that are doing SFW work for the event get harassed because they draw fetish art normally... I had to deal with a user, who was a minor, who tried calling me out as a pedo and harassing me on my socials, that are all 18+, yesterday... all because i draw bigger characters... im sure that Art fight has not been like that in the past... but as a first timer to this event, it was a massive disappointment that actually made me fear for my safety... so it is safe for me to say it is not a good look on the event to pretty much allow that to happen... even reported the user and I'm still waiting to see if they did anything (news flash... they didn't...) so yeah... im giving art fight a second chance but i will not hesitate to look at artfight as dangerous if this bullshit happens again...

Firstly, people who go out of their way to exclude less experienced artists or say that they don’t want attacks from “bad” artists is just so selfish it always breaks my heart. I will never not despise artists who put beginners down. Art Fight or not, I’d be ecstatic to receive any fanart, regardless of the “quality” of the art because, I care more about the fact that they liked MY character enough that they used their own time and effort to draw them so they can show how much they like them. People who care more about the quality of the attacks they get over genuine appreciation for their work are just so disgustingly ungrateful. If you’re only in Art Fight to get quality art of your ocs, just commission someone or do an art trade. There are different ways of approaching the event and they are all legitimate within the rules. I came across an account that has been making hundreds of attacks per day(over 5000 lifetime across multiple seasons), all of them are tiny headshot icons but they do represent the character reasonably well. I've been making comic pages and they have about 9-12 characters each, usually repeats of 3-4 unique across several panels. A lot of people think at first that they are going to earn lots of points and then discover that they're challenging themselves to make better art, so they're slowing down. AF represents the artist's personal journey in so many ways.

The attack counter on a person's profile shows the number of attacks they've done in the entirety of their Artfight experience not just what they've done in the current year... unless I'm misunderstanding what you're talking about. If someone did 40 attacks in 10 days I'd be impressed and wonder how much of those are fully rendered (nothing bad with just submitting sketches) but it would take big chunk of the day.

I get its a competition at the end of the day and people are gonna be competitive but being nasty about it just brings everyone down. Theres a difference between being competitive and being toxic. not to vent in your comments but this is my third year doing Artfight, I usually do at least 5 drawings for the month and at most I only ever get 2 or 3 either as revenges or attacks. While I do it solely for my own enjoyment and drawing cool ocs, it does hurt that I don't get as much attention as some other people. I’ll never understand people who take the competition so seriously. Like I’ve lost every single year I’ve played and am currently losing this year and I think that’s extremely funny personally

Also to go along with the point of the video a bit more, I haven’t seen any of what people are complaining about. I usually get about three attacks every year and do three myself and I’ve never gotten anything negative (even though those first years my art was definitely less than desirable)

Oh wow, I don't use tiktok so I had no clue people were acting like this. I get the people complaining about not getting attacked back though, it does suck not getting art when you put in a lot of effort to attack others. I worry about this myself so I've been picky with my targets and seeing if they say they revenge in their bios first before deciding if I'll attack character they have. Its helped me enjoy the event more since the amount of effort I put in will come back to me (at least for the most part) I also know it sucks to not have a certain character attacked so while I say Im picky, I also go after characters with little to no attacks (and I've found some profiles with very few attacks im considering targeting). Idk its just fun for me and it seems to improve the experience for others! Why go after the big artist who already has 20 attacks on day 1 when you can pick the small guy who only has 5 but says they're willing to revenge.

It was my first artfight this year too and I had a lot of fun, was very good for me mentally as an artist. Of course there will always be bad and rude people in any situation. I hope despite the mass drama you had fun on your first year as well.

The rules thing was the opposite for me I watched several videos explaining art fight and art fight rules and double checked reading the rules myself cus that was where most of my nervousness for the fight came from I didn’t wanna disrespect someone’s oc lol

people absolutely ruin artfight for themselves, I don't own tiktok and this is the first time I've ever heard any of these problems 😭😭 and people who have trending tiktoks will be more popular therefore get more attacks for their characters therefore have more questionable attacks, surely?
