Often the way it goes. They lack the talent of the supremely gifted so they make up for it with knowledge of the game/fundamentals. Freddie roach, mediocre boxer at best, one of the greatest trainers. A lot of the greatest coaches, either didn’t play or were bang average/rotational players. Meanwhile, MJ is a terrible evaluator of talent. In the UK we had an all time great footballer who was failing as a coach and a player summed it up beautifully. He just can’t relate to us, because what he thinks of as rudimentary, to us is the extraordinary. There’s a disconnect.
