We just say "what a small world". Here's an example... I'll try to keep it super brief (despite my name lol) One year at our cabin in Alaska, my dad and uncle befriended an older gentleman who they met at the emergency walk-in clinic on back to back days. Turns out he was the first black State Trooper of Alaska*, and also the Anchorage chief of police for a time. And as it further just so happens, he lives like _35 minutes away_ from my uncle down in the state of Georgia - that's 5499km from where they were! Crazier yet, a couple years ago he was telling me that he was recently grocery shopping in Georgia, and this BIG guy approached him, and said _"YOU'RE ... You _*_kicked my ass_*_ back in !"_ Turns out to be an Inuit gentleman (Native Alaskan) from some remote town in Northern Alaska, which he did indeed have to give dude a whopping for resisting arrest... _(the guy wasn't mad, which they shook hands and chatted for a bit)_ So yea, it's crazy the people you meet in every day life! We're just more open about it lives I guess, so it's easier to find out those nuggets of info from otherwise-strangers. 😊 _[* I include that tidbit above for no other reason other than him being _*_damn proud_*_ of that fact]_

Soon after we had an Adam sighting and I remember opening the door of my dad’s sketchy beat up white truck and yelling “I’m a huge fan!!” To which Adam sped off faster on his bike(very reasonably). After we got home we ended up writing another letter saying “hey sorry we showed up at your front door we didn’t mean to scare you” and we got an amazing autograph back from the whole mythbusters cast. There's not a lot of people in this world that will think of how others could perceive something innocent you do, even if you meant no harm (and even if you did it as a fan in this instance...) How Adam brings it up is a great way to talk about it to _inform_ others of not doing it in the future. He's not belittling the person or talking out of anger, he's rational and understanding in his aversion to what the person did, & giving them the lesson that needs to be said. I myself have been in one or maybe two circumstances where I "went a little overboard" with a friend or someone I cared deeply about because I didn't think of how they or anyone else would see my actions. I mean, why would I at the time? I was doing/saying it out of love and respect, or because I thought I was being nice. But _the other party_ doesn't have that same feeling. It's not like a married couple who have deep feelings for one another. It's one sided affection, admiration, or even fascination. And unfortunately (especially with the latter feeling,) people may not realize that what they do, say, or even feel can be misconstrued as crossing a line, or negatively affecting others.

He decides to step into the charity office, where my friend worked, and leave the package inside. WITHOUT talking to ANYONE! About 30 minutes later, the people in the charity office realized that the was a large briefcase-sized package just lying there. No one knew anything about when or how it got there. They called the police, who sent the bomb squad. The bomb squad evacuated the building and surrounding area. They CAREFULLY moved the package across the street to an evacuated park. They attached explosives to it and detonated it. NO explosion occurred from the contents, just what the bomb squad set off. About 10 minutes later the person who left the package came back to pick it up and finish his delivery. The contents of the package, which was destroyed, was a VERY expensive medical device. After he was arrested, he was fired from the delivery company. The delivery company had to pay for the destroyed device, the police response and the replacement of the device & it's expedited delivery with a different company. I guess the people who taped the item to your door got off lucky!

The current crime, drug abuse and homeless stuff you see on the news every night has always existed and has always been pretty rough (go back and watch Dirty Harry if you don't believe me). After school, after work, etc. I’m 33 now, finishing up my degree and working part-time, so I have access to potential new friends that most my age don’t! But I just find myself wanting to go straight home as soon as possible. I guess home is where I feel safe, and I’m naturally inclined to be alone, it rarely bothers me. But then I have times where I wish I had a support system, outside of my girlfriend, mom, and a few old friends I still talk to and see every now and then. I guess I’m just venting, but I really envy people like Adam who are compelled to socialize and aren’t drained by it, taking pleasure in things like throwing a party. I think I just need to get in the habit of being out in the world and not just rushing straight to my house, where I basically live exclusively in my bedroom avoiding roommates.

I just recently moved to the bay area (Mountain View) about 7 months ago. I've been up to San Francisco only a handful of times so far, but each time I love it so much. I've spent more time in Berkeley because I love all the really cool book stores and record stores. The last time I was in San Francisco I saw this really cool duck wall with lots of rubber ducks attached to it. As a software programmer, rubber ducks hold a special place in my heart thanks to the concept of Rubber Duck Debugging :)

That's how I felt about Colorado. Had never visited, but drove through in college on a road trip from AZ to Chicago. Not even sure if we stayed a night here, but just driving through, and visiting Boulder, I knew this was where I wanted to be 'when I grew up'. Shortly after college at nau in Flagstaff, we were here. Still here, almost 30 years later. Can't imagine being anywhere else

And this is why I am a HUGE fanboy of Adam and all his work - cause he himself is a fanboy of many people, genres and things/ideas! 😁 If I ever meet him, I've made a promise to myself to be cool, not gush and (hopefully) shake his hand! 😁 When and if the situation is warranted, I'd ask for a selfie and/or an autograph. But these guys are still so dear to our hearts and minds, we see them on a daily or weekly basis and one could have the mindset of Annie Wilkes (hopefully we have a better and clearer mindset 😊) and I see where Adam is coming from! But hopefully we as a fanbase can be respectful and keep the boundaries that we enjoy around the ones that we see each day on our TVs and devices! Be safe and healthy! LLAP 🖖 😎

I was in San Francisco 6 or so years ago and it was awesome, went on the trolley and did all the tourist things. Saw the video of the exodus of every store on that street where we got on the trolley. AT&T gone, Old Navy gone all the restaurants gone. Looks like the walking dead. We did witness an obviously mentally ill individual tossing everything from a cvs onto the sidewalk as a san Francisco police car sat on the street and did absolutely nothing. Not republican talking points if I literally witnessed it myself in person. It’s a society problem.

The odd thing with celebrity fandom is that usually the fan will know a LOT about that person, their history, their career, their personality, their likes and dislikes, whereas the celebrity will know literally nothing about the fan. This places the celebrity at a significant disadvantage, and inevitably they will need to be guarded and at least a little wary of that person.

Someone posted the address of the cave on Reddit a few years ago, so I know that I stayed a block away at an AirBnB last time I was in San Francisco. I didn't choose that AirBnB because of its proximity to the cave it was just the best combination of comfort, price and proximity to public transport that I needed. While it might have fleetingly crossed my mind to stroll down and knock on the door, I *DID NOT DO IT* because the para-social relationship I have with Mr Savage is *entirely* one-sided and (if you'll pardon the phrase) he doesn't know me from Adam.

Back in nam when i was still a baby at 18 we ran into gregory peck and audrey hepburn and my friend was obsessed with them for years.short story long whilst stationed near(a plane ride away actually) the battlefield . We seen him on a yacht while out cruising in a locals fishing boat. My friend dove off of the boat and swam to his yacht thinking they would snatch him up. He was so excited!! They ended up shooting him with a flame thrower and he drown in the pacific that day. We were all frightened because no one had any weapons and the yacht kept trying to chase us down while shooting at us. Luckily we were almost at the shore when they caught up and although i still lose sleep over it today we threw the weak(you woulda done the same)out as flack so we could get away and they were all taken or shot. I now dont approach celebrities anymore. True story. At the time no one would publish this in a paper and after a scary visit ive kept it to myself for almost 50 years.

In his unerring way, he would make it feel like a gift. I also have no doubt that properly motivated, Adam could bring the thunder. He and I are much alike and there are layers and layers under that surface. But it’s Adam. This man could pull you close and look you in the eye and tell you that if you sought to harm someone he cared about, they would never find the little pieces of you. And still, you’d feel like you’d been invited to a party in your honor. 😂 Much love. All the very best.

Adam, do you recognize this? In 1996 or 7 there was an art exhibition with multiple artists. I was invited by one of the artists. The most impressive piece was a mechanical marvel. The artist had filled a huge industrial kitchen stainless steel mixing tub with milk. The mixing tub was built on a low stand and slowly rotated which created a barely perceptible swirling of the milk. Coming out of the stand was an armature that ran vertically. At the end of the armature was a film projector, the kind that schools used to have. Running through the projector was an endless loop of cows grazing on a hill somewhere. The film ran through the armature through a series of pulleys, which made an intricate pattern. This was projected onto the milk. It was a really clever design and a quirky piece of sculpture. I ask because you mentioned that you participated in the artist spaces.

I always appreciate your topographical explanation of "landscapes". You should know that your descriptions of your chunk of Cali are some of the few examples I can think of that have ever made me even consider visiting. Additionally, no persons, school or ad campaign description of NYC have ever painted it as a desirable destination to visit, much less live. Genuin curious question... Is the NYC "industry" actually necessary/effective or an elaborate ruse that runs on it's own fumes? Outside of Broadway and stage plays, what contributions come from there that wouldn't be better done anywhere else? Not throwing stones, just curious.

You talking about yourself as an artist always makes me reflect on my own relation with art as an engineer. I consider myself a deeply creative person, but I am not sure how this mixes with my career as an engineer and adherence to the scientific method -- these don't fall in line with the "artistic process" in my mind, yet even writing a research paper can feel like I am "doing art".
@senseisecurityschool93373 ай бұрын
That's an interesting thing to think about. An architect who designs things like the Sydney opera house is certainly doing both art and engineering at the same time, so I suppose they aren't disjoint. You have me thinking about a definition of engineering I found: Engineering is the art and science of determining if a design* meets an explicit specification, based on established principles. For example, an engineer can rate a bridge design for X tons, or a data system for Y transactions per second. Note the distinction between construction and engineering. Construction is putting things together; engineering is figuring out if the design meets certain spec. What is art? Coming up with new stuff? New designs, creative -- creation. So I suppose any time you are creatively coming up with a new design that needs to meet a certain spec, you are doing both art and engineering. * The design may not be new, and may be synthesized from measurements of an *existing* artifact. Which means we can analyze an abstraction of an existing system as it currently exists. We are not limited to the *original* design, but can analyze the new design which could include the removal of a failed member, or the actual use of fasteners smaller than originally intended.

He was from a city a few hours away, and would be driving by my location, and wanted to take me to lunch. I had no idea who this person was, I had never spoken to them before. He got my info from my domain registration. I’m sure he was a nice fellow, but it was a legit spooky situation. No nothing like selling some old chairs on Facebook marketplace, of course.

That reminds me of the time I met R Lee Ermey. We are at a big gun show where Gunny was filming a episode of Mail Call. Well Mr. Ermey had some downtime and was just walking around with everybody else looking at the tables and enjoying the show. I looked up and me and the friend I was with was about 5' from him. He whispers to me "I want to go shake his hand", to which I reply "just leave him alone". I didn't any more get the words out of my mouth when he just ran up to him. My friend was a big fan and very nervous, in his nervousness he lunged toward Mr Ermey with his hand out and yelled "Hey Gunny". He had his hand out to shake his hand but I'm pretty sure Gunny thought some crazy person was about to knife him in the gut. He jumped back into a table and almost fell down. Once he finally found out he was being attacked he shook his hand and went on about his business. Later on that day I ran into Mr Ermey again and I went over and apologized for my friend and what happened. He told me to go get him and come see him again. I did and in the end we got pics and autographs with him, and laughed about the whole incident. He even hung out with us for the most of the rest of the day until he had to go back on the set.
