@@SenkoVT most “hackers” don’t alter any game code themselves, but rather buy hacks from other sources, like a mod of sorts, and just keybind whatever it is they wanna do to a specific button. Like for example, there’s a keybind you can press to instantly escape, so calling these people “hackers” isn’t really correct, but rather just sad, pathetic cheaters that bought a hack someone else designed and installed it. So most people who cheat are pretty stupid.

I like how the server just gets sent packets like "lol fall through the floor, teleport 200 meters, be behind the exit gates when they're not open, yup, all this seems legit." Like you should at the very least just auto-disconnect someone if they end up behind the exit gates before they're open. At the VERY least. Cheaters can't or at least shouldn't be able to control the status of the game itself, just their client-side shit. I feel like in most decent games cheats this simple and obvious are a lot harder to get working.

Exactly! As I read above, the problem is that they bought a spaghetti code, impossible to maintain and fix, and the code was poorly written, that's why they didn't fix it. As far as I remember, the BASICS of a multiplayer game correctly implemented, all clients send just inputs to the server (like, walk up, press m1, run), and the server calculates the position and the action, and then, send the correct position to all players. DBD accepts from the client "I'm in position X" like it's nothing, and this is absurd. First basic class of computer science: Client is unreliable. But the code probably was written to just "sell as fast as you can, deliver as fast as you can", and nobody took a second look. They just accepted, got the money, and left

To be honest, the hacking problem is unsolvable until BHVR decide to re-write their code from the ground up, which require a lot of resources. When I was studying the subject on Cyber Security, there's a solution called "acceptance". If the cost of repairing/implementing is higher than the cost of loss due to the problem, we will just accept the presence of the vulnerability and moved on.

There are some automatic things you can do for games, though they can have issues. For example, a common one is automatically banning a player if they do something they shouldn't be able to do, such as moving at a speed that's higher than the game mechanics would allow. The issue with that is that a player might actually be able to achieve that speed through normal gameplay and you simply didn't realize it. Stuff like that.

I only say this because, honest to goodness, a couple of times I was kicked in Minecraft because the server thought I was cheating for speed hacking when I had high ping, so I could be totally wrong. I know different netcodes and shit exist and Minecraft and DBD aren't the same game, but with how many games have this problem and haven't implemented this obvious fix, I assume that there's an underlying issue keeping them from doing so

this ^^ . i dont think its possible to cheat on console, maybe if u take out ur ssd or somehow connect it to ur pc while its also connected to ur console and then change data in it you might be able to do something but consoles have a very limited OS where u are not supposed to install third party apps. not saying that its impossible but it would be tidious and at that point why would you play on console if u need a pc to hack it anyway.

They are from the Epic store so that’s why it shows the symbol. Console players can’t use cheats. The last consoles that were able to be exploited were the Xbox 360/PS3 generation.

Console players can still cheat, just not to this level. Minor things like 0 recoil in FPS games or wallhacks that make your controller vibrate when looking at the opposition are all you can get and those are just controller mods. Things like this Claudette are a PC exclusive problem and the reason I disabled crossplay

Apparently BHVR is using an older version of EAC which is why the Steamdeck has issues running this game. If they are using an older version it probably makes it easier to exploit the game. Hence all these blatant/subtle cheaters.

Quick reminder: It is VERY hard to hack on console. The thing is though, that you also see players from Epicgames/Steam as players joining you via Crossplay making you think they are from a console. So I’d say this guy is not on console but on Epicgames.

Cross Play doesn't mean console only. The logo also shows up when you as a steam player play against an epic games player. Both on PC, so a hacker that is on crossplay usually uses Epic as they gave out the game for free once, so they surely made multiple accounts

This. Steam users forget that the crossplay icon also shows for Epic and Windows Store players, not just console. I always see people surprised when a globe talks in post game because of it. Console cannot hack. If you have a globe hacking they're on Epic.

@Chiii Ling Hacking on console requires a modded console which prevents online play. So no, you can't hack in DBD on console.
