For the copyright thing: It's usually less about it being inherently owned but a specific image being owned. Best example is Kobolds and D&D: In D&D Kobolds are Dragonoid with specific lore and designs. You can't use those. You can still use goblinoid or anthropomorphic beasts as kobolds(see most anime Kobolds). You can also use dragonoid Kobolds but they have to have different lore and visuals than d&d has. Like you can't copyright dragons, but the elemental to elder drake concept from lol or the toothless from httyd are copyrighted

A lot of people were confused by the name changes and copyright, but I think the misconception would've been clearer if the pack was called the Fantasy Pet Pack instead of the Mythical Pack, since not all fantasy creatures are from mythos but all creatures from mythos are fantasy. It's kind of like the squares are rectangles" thing.
