From a medical point of view that tiny little splinter can do some serious damage, if not removed soon as possible the longer you left it the greater the risk of you getting blood poisoning.
@maeic1967110 жыл бұрын
That could happen, but only if it was rusty piece of metal ir something OR if it was left there for severa dayd
@darrenmay306510 жыл бұрын
Having just the smallest amount of bacteria on the surface of your skin at the point the splinter pierced into you is enough to cause blood poisoning it don't have to be metal or rusty objects etc..
@maeic1967110 жыл бұрын

You're lucky it was on 3 or 4 hours. Sometime the wait can be up to 8. This should be an ad of why we need much better healthcare in the United States. The expense, wait times, and paperwork..However, *I'm glad you got that dang splinter out, Lilly.*

I feel u Lilly! The reason it was like that is because in US hospitals they have to check all your vitals before they can do anything. Also the reason you were still waiting after was probably because you had so sign release papers.

@kopaskutq10 жыл бұрын
They would put you through this exact same thing in the UK only you would be there till the next day, because waiting time for such a small injury is like 4 hours during the night, just to see the nurse.. It's stupid i agree, but they have to go through this procedure as a safety policy, in case something does happen to you, they have proof that they checked you, etc.

I too had a splinter once upon a time that I could not remove. what you do is soak the part of your body that has the splinter in Epsom salts for about 10 minutes. this will soften the skin so that you can more easily get to the splinter and then you can pick it out. It will also disinfect the area.

To get a splinter out you need to get baking soda and water and form it into a paste and apply to the splinter and wait for it to come out
@angelamartin411910 жыл бұрын
The reason they do all of that is to cover themselves. I went to school for medical billing and coding and medical assisting. My dad (RIP) was diabetic and got a splinter in his foot didnt feel it, ended up with gangrene and had to get half his foot amputated. Lets say they didnt do those things (check weight, bp, etc) and you got a staff infection later on they can get in big trouble for not checking everything to begin with. Also, with some programs now, a doctor cant even put his notes in the system without having the vitals, and if they dont do them and make them up its a HUGE legal no no

They always do weight and vital signs at doctor. I'm in cheer, and I rolled my ankle really bad and had to go to urgent care, and it was 3 hours before they finally took vitals, then close to another hour before dr actually looked at foot. But, then another time I rolled my ankle again and we went the ER it was only a 5 minute wait until vitals, then 10 min for dr, then we had to wait a while while they wrote a prescription for me, and referred me to orthopedic, who ordered an MRI, which showed that I just had/have severe tendinitis so now I have to wear a brace whenever I cheer......

Having to check all of your vitals for a splinter, that's pretty funny, lol. But, that's just medical policy in order to register you as a patient in their system despite how outrageous it may sound, haha. If you're serious about a new tattoo, but unsure of what to get, Lilly, I do have an idea you might like. I recall from one of your earlier vlogs of you talking about the idea of getting another tattoo and you mentioned how the phrase "one love" meant so much to you. What if you were to go with having "one love" tatted, but in some way have it drawn out into a heart shaped formation? I'm sure a good tattoo artist can figure out a few unique ways on how to do that. It's just a thought, but if you actually like or even love the idea, I'm glad I did you a favor, haha.

They would have checked your vitals even if you went to the doctor because of by any chance something goes wrong then the hospital/practice is liable. Also you went to the hospital and that is all types of expensive a GP could have done that. But I do agree that health care in the U.S. Is all types of expensive.

When I was younger, I played outside all day, every day and I would get splinters a lot. My mom would cut a potato and hold the inside part over the splinter for about 5-20 minutes, depending on how big/deep it was, and the potato would actually force the splinter out. If not all the way, the head of it would come out and then it's easy to grab. ☺️ next time, try that. It always worked for me. 😊

yeah american healthcare SUCKS! i have been going to the same endo for a year and a half and suddenly they want a new referral from my primary (i was referred there by a diff doc) and it took TWO MONTHS for them to get the referral in, and i had to miss my scheduled appointment i had for over six months. and then i made the new appointment and had to wait another two months just for that. when i walk in there, they don't have the referral! then they tell my primary that they would have never scheduled the appointment without a referral. HOW DID YOU SCHEDULE IT THEN. and it took another 8 hours of those two offices bickering until they figured out the issue- basically my primary didn't specify the amount of appointments i'm allowed. i wanted to punch everyone.
