The legs oak actually looks very much like beech 😉 You'd never suspect the new desk has been flipped from this old ruin of a pinne desk, well done 👍
@adamfitch96510 ай бұрын
And I think it was made with yellow pine, which is harder and more distinctly grained than the white pine of the new top. It’s still an amazing transformation and a great save.

hi i just found you when u worked with flipping drawers .wow this desk looks amazing!!!! you def saved this treasure !!! i also bought a oak desk..originally 90.00 us. and then they went out of business.. so on the last wkend i got it for 30 .00 score!!!! like u, it neede d work . mine was also water damage..and i had to replace the panels , sand down the sides of the drawrs to make them fit, and replace 2 drawer bottoms... i sanded down the top , due to mold and chipped varnish . but i left the rest alone...i did give the whole desk a fresh but lite coat of golden oak stain and then poly over that.... as for the drawer frts it was too dark and u couldnt even see them.. so i sanded the frt but left the handles alone.. it worked perfect.. so i can relate with your project;];];]

Next time put a coat or two of shellac on the pine so you get a more even stain across the wood.

I hope after bringing it inside in parts and gluing it all back together that were able to get it through the door again! I tried gluing a wobbily coffee table I found on the side of the road and I failed. What's your secret? I would have put a poly on it to protect your great work. I would have also stained the entire drawer inside and out.
@jebsails283710 ай бұрын
I think you captured the essence you wee looking for. Would it have been possible to square those rounded edges on the drawers and legs, possibly with a straight cutting router bit or on a table saw? Thanks. Narragansett Bay

Looks good. Only thing I would do differently is attaching the leg with a couple of dowels instead of a screw. If someone were to add those furniture gliders(for carpet) that screw on they wouldn’t be able to because of the screw in the center. Food for thought.

if you want to put stain on soft wood, you can first put shellac coat so it goes on evenly. then use gel stain on top

The drawer handles are crudely bright. The wood tone seems too dark, but that's a personal opinion. The right solution with the countertop. Overall a good result, I'll give you a like.
@Eric1SanDiego110 ай бұрын
Me: "NOOO! You can't replace the top with PINE, it will look awful!" You then proceed to stain the top with a deep, dark, rich stain. Also me: "Oh my God, that is GORGEOUS!!!!!"
@incognitotorpedo4210 ай бұрын
Are you sure that's pine? It looks like fir. Some kind of conifer, anyway.

You're lucky that it wasn't covered with a bunch of goopy paint. I consider it a plus if furniture is falling apart. It makes life easier on me.

Yup, I know. But I wanted that walnut feel. But it came out pretty okey :-)

Where can I get a scraper like that? I went to a hardware store in Germany (Hagebau) and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. 😬
