What’s the difference between 5280 pods, ecopods, galaxypods, or poseidons feast? Which is the best for setting up a new refugium in an established tank?

I actually added copepods 2 times after my tank cycled and the diatom phase hit. Diatoms outbreak was not as bad as I thought it would be. The phase lasted about 2 weeks before clearing up. I purchased the 3000 count x2 and probably overkill and it is expensive. I also added the marine pure ceramic balls. Only negative side is the cost but I would do it the same again.

Excellent idea and I agree copepods are crucial to a tank

What impact doea the phytoplankton have on nitrate? I want to seed my established 180 gallon tank w/ pods so that I can introduce a mandarin and also have a healthy tank. I do have a refugiam and I am surprised that I don't see pods? I have previously seeded...

Phytoplankton consume nitrates and phosphates, so they'd have a beneficial effect. Some pods live in substrate/rock and are nocturnal too, so a way you could tell is to shine a flashlight into your refugium for a few minutes to check (when refugium lights are off). If you've got copepods in there, you'll see them ticking up towards the light beam. Best of luck, Aquatic sister!

Ordered my jar of ecopods and ocean magic yesterday. Unfortunately my tank already has a neon goby, yasha goby and feather duster worm. I plan on feeding them good then turning off the lights and hob fuge for a bit before adding the pods and leaving the light off that day. Hopefully it will give some of them a chance to get settled a bit.

If you don't have a refugium, would you recommend dosing them? If so how often

Before adding copepods my glass would turn brown within two days. It now takes something like two weeks. For that alone they’re worth the money.

This is how I solved my ugly stage 2 years ago and I got blasted that this wasn't the reason why, but is now being talked about by the pros. I added so many that I had them all over my glass and in a few weeks my aquarium was clean and they slowly started dying off to a population where I don't see them everywhere but still help keep everything clean
@supersnoco Жыл бұрын
how many did you add and to what volume? My population has been eaten off and it's beginning to show, this is my plan but not sure how much overkill I need for 30gal. Thx!

@@supersnoco I added 3 bottles to a 40g. When the lights went out I turned off all the wave makers, removed my filter socks and turned off my skimmer and reactor for 3 hours to give a chance for the pods to move around and settle where they wanted. Don't vaccum the sand that's where most will be. 2 times a week add some phyto and every 6 months add another bottle of pods

What is the estimated shipping time after ordering?
@morrow9992 жыл бұрын
I ordered on blackfriday and got them in a week.

You can upgrade shipping for about $5, I do that so I receive orders in 2 days (Across 7 states). I called Algae Barn about this before ordering, actually! They always look at the weather predictions for where they're shipping to, and will include heating / ice packs accordingly so your pods arrive healthy and alive. I've never received any dead / bad products from Algae Barn, and they're really good about replacing/working with customers. Great business ethic!

I agree with the benefits of these pods. But instead of paying for overpriced pods, one can start a new tank with water and some rock/sand from an established tank.
