Stronger pound = Imports are cheap, but exports are expensive
Didn't follow the pound to yuan or dollar exchange rates where all your suppliers are Chinese and invoices are in USD? Do you know how influential those are if all your suppliers are foreign? It's not a matter of just buying their currencies and stuff, you need to know what's valued against what.
@ian_wallace4 ай бұрын
@@FakenameStevens wtf are you even talking about lol. If Currency A is stronger than Currency B then it makes Country A able to import goods from Country B a lot cheaper, since Country B are accustomed to lower prices in Country A's terms. For example: In Uganda, a bag of coffee might cost 100,000 Ugandan Shillings = ($20), which is an expensive price for the typical Ugandan who earns 1,500,000 shillings a month ($350), whereas in the UK the average salary is $3000 (12,500,000 Ugandan Shillings), which makes the $20 bag from Uganda extremely cheap for the average consumer. This is just an example obviously but the general golden law of exchanges and fundamental economics is that Strong Currency = Cheap Imports but Expensive Exports, and Weak Currency = Expensive Imports but Cheap Exports.

Easier for countries to pay their debt with cheaper (devalued) currency also
@ayoCC4 ай бұрын
hmm so person X earns money in dollars, he has 100 dollars, but lets say the value stays the same. He invests into a business in country B, there, the money loses value every month. lets say the exchange rate starts at 1:1, he borrows 100 imaginary Liro, if he pays it off immediately he'd pay 100 dollars, but after a year, the exchange rate is already 1:100, so whatever he borrowed can be paid back by a single dollar. So i guess a high inflation is a good time for foreign investment? I guess there's probably other reasons wy it's not always turning out that way

As a Brit who buys anime figures from Japan I am getting nearly double for my GBP against the Yen, than I was 10 years ago. That certainly helps balance out the customs taxes I have to pay when they get here. (And they generally spend more time sitting in customs here in UK than it took to ship it from Japan. Parcel Force do like to take their time it feels like.)

9:26 You made a major mistake here. The chart showed How many franks you get per US Dollar. The exact opposite of what you said. It shows how the dollar got weaker, not that the frank got weaker. Check the M2 money supply of the major currencies. Switzerland is shredding massive amounts of Franks. It's by far the best currency to hold at the moment, which is why I'm investing into swiss frank denominated assets right now. Oh and at 9:44 you literally showed something that proved your previous claim wrong xD +7.7% over the US Dollar.

No. The reason the pound is gaining against the dollar is simply because it hit a decades old low. Essentially the pound was on a massive sale, this makes it a very attractive buy for speculators as it's very likely to appreciate in value once it hits a major low.
