One fun detail I noticed is that when Rocky is looking for a gun in the car you can see that he throws around 2 pancakes and an empty syrope bottle.I think its a nod to the comic where Rocky's favourite food are pancakes

You might notice that they drive through the sign that said "Sable Quarry" and then later when asked to elaborate about what happened by Wick, he says "Mr. Sable". Lol. He owns the Quarry and Rocky basically caused extensive damage

The quarry is hinted at even earlier, though it's much easier to miss. When Rocky's yelling at Ivy to turn left, they zoom past a sign. It's only in the shot for a few frames, but it says "Sable Stone & Quarry" on it, same as the one they run into. It's an earlier hint for the most eagle-eyed of viewers.

Mordecai DID shoot Freckle in the head, but it was a graze. If you look in the scene again, you'll see Freckle's bleeding from his temple, plus you get the wobbling double-vision effect from his perspective indicating that even an oblique skip of a round off the thicker parts of his skull rung the cat's bell pretty good. This is definitely a lucky break, but it can and does happen.

5:14 that is an M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle. This weapon was also used by gangsters in the 1920s. It was also used a little bit during WW1 and used a lot more in WW2 and Korea as an A2 model.

Lackadaisy has a full comic series by Tracy J. Butler (who lead the team working on this pilot). I won't spoil anything, but Rocky is the frantic violinist who went crazy with the dynamite, I've is the young lady who did the driving, and Freckle is the "babyface" who gets crazy when armed with a gun. "Babyface" is more of a nickname Rocky gave him, not so much a calling card. They're cousins of irish descent. Fun fact the Stone Quarry Rocky crashed them into is owned by Sable, the businessman at the Speakeasy who lost his composure when Rocky mentioned the dynamite. All of that was mentioned or hinted at in the pilot episode itself. And to answer your question, yes, Rocky did already lose his mind.

Some things I learned today while hyperfixating, if anyone’s interested: :D Rocky isn’t allowed (or is more… discouraged from?) using guns because he sort of accidentally shot himself one time. In an unrelated incident, he sustained a head injury that some suspect worsened his unhinged nature. At the very least, we know it changed him somehow, and that he never went to the hospital for it. The creator of the comics has acknowledged his need for mental health support and the unlikelihood of that happening. At some point he was living in his car?? Mordecai- the scary gun guy- is asexual (ACE REP LETS GOOO) He and pretty much every other major character were confirmed to be some kind of sociopath. Idk how serious that was tho. Otherwise, they’ve been hesitant to label any specific disorders for anyone. I’m sure someone’s already said this, but Freckle wanted to be a cop, but his uuuh… relationship with guns made that a no-no. Victor is protective of Ivy. I’d say why, but I feel like that qualifies as a spoiler. Finishing on another Rocky one, bc the first bunch were all him: Rocky is actually very in tune to what other characters are feeling- minus the likelihood he’s about to be punched in the face.

I had heard about this project for a while, but only really knew what it was a few days ago. And now that I've seen the pilot, I'm blown away from just how incredible this turned out. The concept is really interesting, and the animation, character designs, sound effects, and voice acting are all incredible. Freckles is definitely my favorite character. His voice actor did a great job making him sound cool and cute, or completely unhinged when he needed to be. Fable Siegel and the rest of the team did an amazing job bringing this world from webcomic to webvideo. I hope it's just the first of what's to come.

the construction lines have confounded quite a few others it seems! as an animation student, I'm personally a big fan :) if you want to watch something that really uses the construction lines within its style and themes, you should give wolfwalkers by cartoon saloon a shot if you haven't already. its an amazing movie! but yeah, i only discovers lackadaisy recently and i am in love with the style and themes and its great seeing so much enthusiasm about animation from people :D

Yet another fun fact but when rockey smashes into the gate while they are driving it says "sable". The same guy sitting at the bar seeming freaked out by hearing Rocky talk about dynamite. Rocky famously hates Sable in the comic so his maniacal laughter is because he's excited to mess up sables buisness. You'll notice he's all smug to him later. And at the after credit scene you can see Sable witness the damage and.. well he ain't happy 😂

"Is that a tommy gun?" Noo no. Browning Automatic Rifle. Shoots MUCH bigger bullets than a Tommy. Tommy: .45 ACP BAR: 30-06 (same caliber as the m1 garand) Random note: there are a few song references in the animation. I might be reading too much into it but the way Rocky says "Whiskey in the Jar" and "Ticket to Ride" just says, "music homages" to me.

Baby face is named Freckle, the girl is Ivy, and the guy at the start is Rocky! Freckle and Ivy are 18, and Rocky is 23. PS. 12:45 : Because Rocky was covered in mud, Ivy said “Come on Mud-bug,” you misheard it. I’m glad you enjoyed the animation though! It’s most extremely definitely beautiful.

St Louis and Kansas City are both built partly on top of old limestone and salt mines that were carved out of caves. There's enough space under both of those cities to build ENTIRE additional cities. These days it's mostly disused, some of it is rented out as cheap underground storage or even a few offices etc.... but these caves saw a bunch of illicit use in the day. Including as speakeasies.

You should definitely check out the comics, they help to flesh out characters and the word, plus if they do make a full show( which I hope they do) you’ll be more acquainted with the characters

I'm on the fence about reading the comic. On the one hand I'd love to have the characters fleshed out, however if the show is going to be an adaptation of the comic I don't want to spoil anything that happens.

That said, the pilot isn’t based off anything from the comic, and if they are going to make a full show following the comic, nothing from the pilot would be canon. So there’s also a good chance the rest of the show will not follow the comic and be it’s own story.

This project was low on my radar until yesterday in that I knew about it, but had no idea that so much content was due so soon. The production quality really is next level. It honestly rivals Disney at its very best in visuals as well as sound design (I think this is the best a gun fight has ever sounded in a piece of animated media). The character designs are really good too, and the voice work range from absolutely amazing to plenty good enough. The cinematography is on point and rather ambitious for traditional animation, much potential there. However, the plot at this point is extremely basic and doesn't seem to tread any new ground for this genre - but that can be expanded upon ofc. The narrative pace is also really slow for this medium, but I don't know if I can count this against it, since it's completely in line with the webcomic. At the same time I wanna give the soryboarders credit for keeping the narrative very clear, at no point was I ever in doubt, what was going on and what the tone of the scene was. All in all this is by itself a monumental triumph of animation, regardless where the project goes from here.

Pilots kinda have to be basic cuz if they do anything complicated it wouldn’t function well as a pilot. If they go forward with making it an actual show, they‘d likely bring the complexities of the comic into animation

I know it's nobody's problem, but I'm kinda mad that I'm yet to see even one reactor recognize the Browning Automatic rifle (BAR) that was used. Considering it was one of the most popular weapons of the time next to the Thompson Machine Gun.
