Johnny's Tonight Show never aired on Irish television. It did air for a couple of years in the early 1980s on British TV, edited weekly highlights on a Saturday night - but never aired on RTE Television in Ireland. A shame, as the Irish viewers might have enjoyed it.

Johnny would often remark how it didn't 'play' well in GB. "They receive the show but they don't get it!"

@@dhpbear2 Reason was the ITV network at the time was not a properly networked system. A bit like US affiliates dropping certain network shows and replacing it with their own shows. Johnny's show was placed on the network schedules usually at 11pm on a Saturday night, networked through London Weekend Television, the company who controlled the network output provision for ITV on Saturday and Sunday. However many regions didn't like the show and never aired it. Meaning around 60% of the UK saw the show. Also the way the show was condensed into a highlight format ruined the flow of the show too, which confused British viewers. Johnny did say he would have liked ITV to have aired it nightly, but that was never going to happen.
