Also, that flare on the top of the blade looks cool on paper, but I think going with a straight spine would look better. And more in line with your own industrial/minimalist style

I think maybe go with a leaner blade profile where everything blends together real smooth. The current design you have looks a bit blocky, with an oversized blade and handle. 10”x1.5”/2” blade with a 5” handle would be good.

My two favourite handle styles for a "Bowie" is the coffin style or the style Nick Wheeler used for his Bowie's, two things I would do to the knife tho love last version of it👍 but what I would do is loose the top guard so you can comfortably grip it up forward and I would make the gap between the blade and the guard large enough to get my pointing fingers in between there for the same reason and the knife would gain alot more usage, just some ideas bud ni matter what it ends up being I'm sure it's awesome ❤️

I have both a Bowie and Kukerin of the same size and weight made by Jason knight, they are a handful but perfect for woodsman or camping purposes, a real man's knife

I prefer the Marine US Cameralus style with a traditional coffin handle . My last was 15" and a true battle blade . That diamond tip is a real pain to get right in both tempering and grinding !!!

I'm not sure why, but the extra shots of the way Tim welds that big piece together was particularly engaging. The fluidity and skill you can really see in the motions. Makes sense though, he did a fair bit of professional welding/fabricating before, if I remember correctly.

Thats so cool, as a Guy that has limited knowledge about blacksmithing but wanna get into knife and perhaps on the future sword making, this is so inspirational. I will probobly never have a fraction of your tools and machines and If i ever get some sort of press it will be a diy type thing so this sort of things are so out of reach but still so cool to see. Being a martial artist i liked how that last blade ”blank” with some different work and adaption and perhaps Wellington on a d guard would be a perfectly acceptable chinese wing chun butterfly knife.

Current thickness × currently length ÷ desired thickness will give you the length. Atleast it works pretty well on the roll mill.

Heres a neat little trick, call some strong friends for a beer at your house, lure them to your shop and hand them a sledge hammer. Now you got yourself a striker

I admire your effort to try and make new tools that will help with creating new things in the shop. I guess that I would worry about how much time is spent on the tooling versus the return on the investment of time & materials. Regarding the design, I think that the blade is a bit to wide, as it is more like Kukri or Parang, but it depends on what people want I guess.

I do definitely prefer the 2nd design over the first. Honestly though, I'd get rid of the top blade guard and just have the bottom one on the handle. For a knife that large, I'd want my thumb up on top of the ridge, providing stability (unless it's getting used as a small hatchet)

It’s too big. I wouldn’t buy a knife that large. It’s too big to use for a lot of stuff and it’s going to add a lot of weight to your kit. I’d be happy around 8-10” for the blade.
