6:42 No need to beat yourself up over a 'misplaced' antenna - it's actually a D/F loop (Direction Finding) which is manually rotated to obtain bearings from ground based transmitters and thus determine aircraft position by means of a two station 'fix'. Hope this helps. All the best for your surgery.

@@petesplasticplayground7791 *Hampden Part 120 D/F Loop Retractable Version* As Kenneth mentions, it is a Direction Finding Loop, so it is meant to be rotatable (360 Degrees). The one on the “Flying Suitcase” is retractable and has a fairing on top of it so it fits flush with the fuselage (so it perfectly fine to display it “retracted” … as “it’s not lost, it’s retracted!”). Probably best to fashion the oval from some suitable wire as the kit one is slightly too thick (IMHO) if you are doing the retractable version. Here’s a couple of links to a contemporary manual showing the very busy cockpit, and, one to the remaining Hampden in Langley, B.C. www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwiY3tnEr9aFAxXYDzQIHVMmB9YQFnoECBUQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fstephentaylorhistorian.files.wordpress.com%2F2020%2F04%2Fhampden.pdf&usg=AOvVaw1Ord1LKbTRqeu4PE-LlGfH&opi=89978449 www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234966292-handley-page-hp52-hampden/ = = = = = *HMS Fearless* “Nobody does it better” (closing scene) … or was that Intrepid? Anyways, another worthy choice. Here’s to a successful hip surgery, and, a very fantastic recovery set of builds! = = = = =

I haven't built a model in nearly 50 years but find myself drawn to modelling channels and are amazed at the standard of work using materials that we never has access to - for armour 'Nightshift' is a must see! My favourite from way back? The Airfix 1:72 P61 Black Widow in the matt black nightfighter guise. Although the 1:72 EE Lightning, now you mention it... Thank you and keep up the excellent work.

Thanks Steven. You’ve got a good point, after the last video was published I did think that there should’ve been a tank in there particularly as I have some 1/35 vehicles and some old vintage classics. The thing I find about building vehicles is that you can be a bit more adventurous with weathering, especially on tracked vehicles. Glad you enjoyed the video and I’ll be back again soon

Airfix are re-releasing the Hampden this year as part of their Vintage Classics range. Whilst nice to have it available again, it really is time that they brought out a New Tool Hampden (it would fit well with their New Tool Wellingtons and Whitley. I built one of the last "Red Box" (2010) issues quite recently and I have to say that the moulds are obviously getting very tired. I found the fit wasn't great - especially the wings to the fuselage. I still enjoyed the build and the end product but I really think that they should be looking at a brand new up to date tooling in the near future. The "aerial" you broke off on your previous Hampden is actually the RDF Loop. (RDF - Radio Direction Finder). Believe it or not, it was fully rotatable by the navigator from inside so that he could obtain radio "fixes" (a bit like the way we used to rotate our old AM/Medium Wave transistor radios to pick up Radio Luxembourg better). So, showing it sideways on would not have been 100% wrong - although when not in use they were usually placed parallel to the airflow to reduce drag - or even fully retracted. Later RDFs were contained within a streamlined fairing. Airfix provides the alternative type of RDF fitting in the Hampden kit. And best of luck with the op.

My dad had both hips done and was thankful for both. All the best for that. I never built the Airfix B17, I had the Revell Memphis belle, but that was over 50 years ago and not the one they do now. I like your list and I have the first 2 in my stash too. I wish they would do the earlier Mossies, the FB VI and the B IV. I loved my old FB VI. Another I liked was the old Lightning F1. I have an F2 to build but wish they would do an F1 again. I have the perfact diorama in mind for it if only they would, otherwise I might have to find the F1 to F2 conversion article in Airfix magazine and do it the other way. Happy Birthday. PS I've subscibed hoping to see some diorama stuff.

Hi. Some very nice kits there,especially the newly tooled one's. Should keep you busy during your recuperation,good luck with that by the way. I noticed that there were no Spits or Hurries or any German opposition,what didn,t fancy any of them ? I liked the look of the Hampden, is that a new tool or not ? I remember finding out that one crashed in Dartford in Kent not far from where I worked. There's a plaque on the wall, but not much detail of the particular aircraft or crew. Thats a shame. I suppose someone would know about it. Any way nice vid and some lovely models. Good luck to you.

Humbrol products are awful now. Paints terrible,mini pots in airfix but even the 2nd gen acrylic bottles. I go with Vallejo and AK after many trials. Pure acrylic. Try their varnishes. AK have a newish one called Intermediate Gauzy Agent ( sounds like a crime character not a satin varnish) Nice and thin and water based. They have their thinners. Inter branding rarely works. And Ammo Mugs varnish selection excellent. All the best with your op,and enjoy convalescing as only a true modeller aka plastic nut can!! Hi Pete it's Ash, good luck with your hip replacement, i had a new hip June last year and i feel much better no pain. I fancy having a go at building the Wellington mk 8 coastal command, I use a paint brush and acrylic paint. Could you do a video showing how you'd build and paint it please? I keep getting confused, do i build before i paint, do i paint before i build, i never know what's easier

Hi Ash, thank you for watching and for your comment, when I built my Wellington, I’ve painted the interior in quite some detail and then once I assembled the whole model I painted the whole thing black just as an experiment then I painted the white and then once I finished that I did the upper surfaces camouflage having marked off the white. I did mine in acrylic paint with a brush. I’ll look back in my Google Photos and see if I took any of the build while it was in progress.

Built HMS Fearless as a kid in the 70s and was fascinated with the landing craft and helicopter.Made it four times since but I don’t have any of them anymore.However I picked up an old unmade 70s kit along with about 20 other kits in a big box at a jumble sale for $20.Mostly Airfix.Bargain.There is a lot on the to do list

I saw a picture of one that somebody had built on Facebook recently and put it in a diorama. It was absolutely fantastic. They had a lot of activity with the landing craft and the helicopters on Little post flying around and the model of the ship itself was superb. they’ve gone to the trouble of putting extra railings on and so on.

I always liked the fact that AIRFIX was the first to produce a model that no one else had done. I'm going to be a little specific in choice by saying that we had the first ever hovercraft prototype SR N1, then we had the SR N4. Airfix missed the boat by not making an SR N6. So a 1/72 and/or 1/35 version would absolutely compliment a historical range that was unique to the U.K. Just saying ;-)

Why don't you build in a bigger scale 1/48 or 1/32 much more detail
@petesplasticplayground7791

I’ve done some larger scales including1/48 more recently 1/24 hurricane. That reminds me I haven’t shown the completed version of that on KZbin yet so that might be my next video. I can’t say I particularly enjoyed doing that larger scale because it dragged on and on and on I building the engine and the framework for it, but I found the bigger parts a bit tedious as well as the paint job. I’ll stick to one/48 below. Best wishes, Pete.

If I may, Pete, I can highly recommend Airfix Stuka - it goes together particularly well and although I've always hated watching footage of it with that ear splitting, terrifying scream it made during it's dive, I've always found it a fascinating design. Any English types on here? Why do I enjoy building Airfix kits?? Almost like an addiction...I even tend to drink tea when building them...TEA for God's sake...I don't like American football, or NASCAR....prefer European football and Rally style racing....had two Austin Healys that I sorely miss...I'm an American. .what's happened...this isn't normal...20+ Airfix kits all under construction...but I order more....is this what 'going down the rabbit hole' looks like???
