Niko Kääpä Abbey Road is shit. By far there worst album. Its so dull and it created 70's arena rock which was the biggest cancer ever in music
@nikokaapa7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing your opinion! I disagree passionately. In my opinion, they really went for it songwriting-wise and went out with a bang. "Come Together", Oh! Darling", "Here Comes The Sun", "I Want You She's So Heavy" and the medley are classics and sure highlights in their discography. There is not one dud apart from maybe "Maxwell's Silver Hammer", which I still have a soft spot for. By far their worst album? Including everything up to "A Hard Days Night"? Truly a weird opinion. Sorry.
@RonaldComet7 жыл бұрын
Niko Kääpä hey don't dis their early stuff. It's awesome and has arguably aged better than any of their later, more ambitious work except the indomitable Rubber Soul.
@feeno11886 жыл бұрын
Niko Kääpä I admit it, I dislike most of Abbey Road. It doesn't sound...alive ? I don't know, I just can FEEL that things were not going well between them. It sounds cold and kind of depressing in a way. Also I don't really like the medley... I love Come Together, Something, Oh Darling, Octopus's Garden (yes...a lot), I want you, Here comes the sun, Because and The End. So... Most of side A and three from side B. While my opinion may be unoriginal, I love Sgt Pepper A LOT. Like, I listen to the whole album everyday and feeling truly HAPPY. Same for Rubber Soul, Revolver and Magical Mystery Tour. I have troubles finding flaws in those ones!! Their earlier stuff is nice. A bit boring and repetitive, not that diverse. The White Album has some of the best Beatles songs...and some of the worst... It also really feels cold and all that... My opinion is all about feeling. The last albums make me uncomfortable. Same for Let it Be which doesn't even sound like an album made by a band...

@noodlereviews7 жыл бұрын
The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved. In a sense, the Beatles are emblematic of the status of rock criticism as a whole: too much attention paid to commercial phenomena (be it grunge or U2) and too little to the merits of real musicians. If somebody composes the most divine music but no major label picks him up and sells him around the world, a lot of rock critics will ignore him. If a major label picks up a musician who is as stereotyped as can be but launches her or him worldwide, your average critic will waste rivers of ink on her or him. This is the sad status of rock criticism: rock critics are basically publicists working for major labels, distributors and record stores. They simply highlight what product the music business wants to make money from. Hopefully, one not-too-distant day, there will be a clear demarcation between a great musician like Tim Buckley, who never sold much, and commercial products like the Beatles. At such a time, rock critics will study their rock history and understand which artists accomplished which musical feat, and which simply exploited it commercially. Beatles' "Aryan" music removed any trace of black music from rock and roll. It replaced syncopated African rhythm with linear Western melody, and lusty negro attitudes with cute white-kid smiles. Contemporary musicians never spoke highly of the Beatles, and for good reason. They could never figure out why the Beatles' songs should be regarded more highly than their own. They knew that the Beatles were simply lucky to become a folk phenomenon (thanks to "Beatlemania", which had nothing to do with their musical merits). That phenomenon kept alive interest in their (mediocre) musical endeavours to this day. Nothing else grants the Beatles more attention than, say, the Kinks or the Rolling Stones. There was nothing intrinsically better in the Beatles' music. Ray Davies of the Kinks was certainly a far better songwriter than Lennon & McCartney. The Stones were certainly much more skilled musicians than the 'Fab Four'. And Pete Townshend was a far more accomplished composer, capable of entire operas such as "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia"; not to mention the far greater British musicians who followed them in subsequent decades or the US musicians themselves who initially spearheaded what the Beatles merely later repackaged to the masses. The Beatles sold a lot of records not because they were the greatest musicians but simply because their music was easy to sell to the masses: it had no difficult content, it had no technical innovations, it had no creative depth. They wrote a bunch of catchy 3-minute ditties and they were photogenic. If somebody had not invented "Beatlemania" in 1963, you would not have wasted five minutes of your time reading these pages about such a trivial band.

Whats the point in putting up a list if it's same as the status quo? If someone says "my favourite record is Ok Computer, Wish You Were Here, Sgt Pepper etc" you can't really argue against em cause they're good shit, but it's still predictable and expected which makes for a less interesting conversation.
@0412lennon7 жыл бұрын
James Marlon an all time list fluctuates because you have new shit coming out. The 60s have been over for more that 40 years. The music is in its own time capsule and those records won't ever change musically. The only thing that changes is the people who listen to it, which is younger people. From that perspective I can see why a 60s list would change. Again I don't disagree In making new lists there's always gonna be a never ending discussion about what's the best

Let It Bleed and Sgt. Peppers both surprisingly absent... Are you serious? Underground's debut was ahead of it's time, but by no means impactful in the 1960s whatsoever. It was a commercial flop and garnered nearly no attention from anyone. Of course, it worked it's way into the pantheon as time came, but Sgt. Peppers was and is the most important release in the history of modern music. The most game changing record of all time. No one would have ever taken the VU seriously if it wasn't for the beatles sounding off the sounds of the counterculture. Again, no hate against the VU, but they don't deserve this #1. It is one of the best albums of all time, but was nothing to anyone in the 1960s.

I would love to say something that's wonderful it's 69 years of age I was a musician and I love music so much that I just want to know why it just doesn't do everything that anyone could be in their life sound feeling and talent I think it's still out there tell me that I'm right or tell me I'm wrong just play the music

That's why these top ten decade list, should be separated by genres. Cause then people will start bitching about how, they favorite Metal, Country or RNB albums weren't on the list.

I personally prefer "Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" over "The White Album". Don't get me wrong, I do love The White Album, but it's tracklist is over-saturated with filler tracks like "Wild Honey Pie" and "Why Don't We Do It In The Road". I still think these are fine tracks on their own, but they do make the album drag on for far too long for my taste. Anyways, here's my list:1. Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 2. Pet Sounds 3. Court of The Crimson King 4. Their Satanic Majesties Request 5. Odyssey and Oracle 6.BeeGees 1st 7. Are You Experienced? 8.The Notorious Byrd Brothers 9.Butterfly 10.Days of Future Passed

How anglocentric can you get? If you're going to dismiss the rest of the world, clarify it Otherwise, Wave or Getz/Gilberto are sorely missing.

The problem is that there is a typo in this vid’s title. It should read: Top 10 Albums of the 1960s...for the editors at Pitchfork. This reads this reads like someone trying hard not to look like they are trying hard. No Floyd, Zep, Cream, Stones, Dusty Springfield, CSN, Byrds, Jobim, Muddy at Newport? No Sly, Zappa, Kinks, Simon and Garfunkel? And since you have Jazz, why not country, classical, blue grass, musicals? Seriously, love the Velvet Underground and am often meh to the Beatles but the Beatles’ influence on pop culture is just too significant.

Not a bad list but TVU&N is one of those albums that is more influential than actually good but people pretend to like it, whereas Pet Sounds is just a perfect album.

Jonah W. Lol nobody pretends to like TVU and Nico.. It's not even hard to get into it's just a lot of great songs. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean nobody does.

Emma Matthew It's not even that I don't like it. I probably enjoy it more the most people do. It's just overrated.

Nobody pretends to like it. The album is my personal favorite for my own personal reasons

I kinda see where you're going with this. I can see someone pretending to like TV U & N simply because it's the cool thing to do. Just like someone wearing a dark side of the moon tshirt when they haven't even heard the band in the first place. Personally I love the album and I think it's definitely top 10 although for my money revolver is at number one

“The most important album of the 1960s” my ass. Keep in mind they said this about the same decade as Led Zeppelin’s first two albums, all of Hendrix’s career, all of The Beatle albums, and one of the high points of Eric Clapton’s career.
